LETTERMAN. 1994
Love Unlimited was a female vocal trio that provided backing vocals for American R&B;/soul singer Barry White on his albums and concert tours. They also found success with their own recordings. Formed in 1969, the group included Barry White's future wife, Glodean James, her sister, Linda James, and their cousin Diane Taylor. The group disbanded in 1985, with the death of Diane Taylor. Their first hit was "Walking in the Rain with the One I Love" in 1972. It peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #6 on the Best Selling Soul Singles Chart. It was also successful in the United Kingdom, peaking at #14 on the UK Singles Chart. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in July 1972. In 1975, they had their first and only #1 song, "I Belong To You", which spent a week at the top of the Best Selling Soul Singles Chart. It also peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1973, when their album entitled Under the Influence of... Love Unlimited peaked at #3 on Billboard's Pop Album Chart, Love Unlimited became the first female group to have an album reach the Top Five since Greatest Hits Vol. 3 from Diana Ross and the Supremes in 1970.

During the course of his career in the music business, White achieved 106 gold albums worldwide, 41 of which also attained platinum status. White had 20 gold and 10 platinum singles, with worldwide sales in excess of 100 million, according to critics Ed Hogan and Wade Kergan. His influences included Rev. Soul Train is an American musical variety television program, which aired in syndication from 1971 until 2006. In its 35-year history, the show primarily featured performances by R&B;, soul, and hip hop artists, although funk, jazz, disco, and gospel artists have also appeared. The series was created by Don Cornelius, who also served as its first host and executive producer. Production was suspended following the 2005--06 season, with a rerun package (known as The Best of Soul Train) airing for two years subsequently. As a nod to Soul Train's longevity, the show's opening sequence (during later seasons) contained a claim that it was the "longest-running first-run, nationally syndicated program in television history," with over 1,100 episodes produced from the show's debut through the 2005-06 season. Despite the production hiatus, Soul Train will continue to hold this honor until at least 2016, if and when its nearest competitor, Entertainment Tonight, completes its 35th season. (If ET does not complete a 35th season, Wheel of Fortune would pass in 2018 if it continues to air.)

A two-time Grammy Award-winner known for his distinctive bass voice and romantic image, White's greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with the Love Unlimited Orchestra, crafting many enduring soul, funk, and disco songs such as his two biggest hits, "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" and "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe."
Worldwide, White had many gold and platinum albums and singles, with combined sales of over 100 million, according to critics Ed Hogan and Wade Kergan. His influences include southern soul artists like Isaac Hayes, Clarence Carter, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin plus Motown artists The Supremes, The Four Tops and Marvin Gaye. Along with Isaac Hayes, White is considered by Allmusic.com as the first singer who played disco music before the actual period of the late 1970s.
