Me quoted in Fairfax papers on tax haven use
Me quoted by Georgia Wilkins in The Age (and other Fairfax publications) today. John Passant, from the school of political science and international relations, at the Australian National University, said the trend noted by Computershare was further evidence multinationals did not take global regulators seriously. ”US companies are doing this on the hard-nosed basis that any [regulatory] changes that will be made won’t have an impact on their ability to avoid tax,” he said. ”They think it is going to take a long time for the G20 to take action, or that they are just all talk.” (1)

Time for a House Un-Australian Activities Committee?
Tony Abbott thinks the Australian Broadcasting Corporation is Un-Australian. I am looking forward to his government setting up the House Un-Australian Activities Committee. (1)

The prison that sets us free – songs for the band unformed

We solve the future in table talk
Where many run we can but walk
For outside lurks new reality

Saturday’s socialist speak out

There is still hope because the reality of capitalism creates the very need to fight back.

Abbott is the abomination

By launching at this school Abbott was sending a clear message to the education reactionaries and homophobes across the country – it will be open slather on quality education and gays under a Liberal government. It is time to divorce state funding from schools of hate.

Don’t bomb Syria

As Bassem Chit, a revolutionary socialist in Lebanon, put it, “Socialists should not fall in the trap of choosing between the two tragedies of imperialism and dictatorship.

“The Syrian people and all Arab people can be free once we all stand in unison, from the Gulf to the Ocean, against dictatorships and imperialism.”

The extermination of the people in revolt: Statement of the Revolutionary Left Current, 21 August 2013, Damascus.

Our revolution has no sincere ally, except for the revolutions of the peoples of the region and the world and the militants who work to free themselves from obscurantist, oppressive and exploitative regimes.

Will the West never learn?

Western intervention in Syria, or anywhere else in the Middle East, would deny freedom and justice to its people and fuel greater displacement and war. It will exacerbate war and lead to greater casualties on all sides.

The Minerals Resource Rent Tax and Labor’s decline

The paper argues that the poor health of the MRRT is a consequence of the nature of the Labor Party as a capitalist workers’ party, the shifts in power and influence within its material constitution and in essence the ascendency of capital in the capitalist workers’ party.

Australia’s mining barons stole the boom

The resources boom has been an El Dorado for big and dirty capitalism. Now that the capitalists see the writing on the wall, they are preparing to launch another round of attacks. Our side got nothing from the boom. We sure as hell shouldn’t have to pay for the bust.

How did politics get this low?

If election 2013 tells us one thing, it is that it is far past time to build a political movement that can challenge the monstrous lie that the choice between Abbott and Rudd is the only choice we have.

Saturday’s socialist speak out

30 years of neoliberalism means that not even a smiling gas and wind bag like Rudd can save Labor from a significant defeat, with the farting Messiah potentially suffering the same fate as his erstwhile enemy, John Howard. Rudd could be hoist with his own petard.
