Woodrow Parfrey (October 5, 1922 – July 29, 1984) was an American film and television actor from the 1950s to the early 1980s. He appeared on Broadway in Advise and Consent (1961).
Parfrey was born Sydney Woodrow Parfrey on October 5, 1922, in New York City. He was orphaned as a teenager. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II and was wounded and captured by the Germans. He married Rosa Ellovich and trained under acting teacher Erwin Piscator at the New School for Social Research.
Parfrey acted almost entirely on Broadway or regional stage in the late 1940s and 1950s, turning to television and film substantially in the 1960s. Though usually a supporting player, he played many focal television guest-star roles, mainly in the late 1960s when fantasy and spy shows relied heavily on distinctive guest players. He appeared five times on The Man From U.N.C.L.E., more than any other guest star except Jill Ireland, who also appeared five times. In 1967 he appeared as Brock in the 4th season of the science fiction TV show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea in the episode named "Fatal Cargo." He is often remembered as "one of TV's great slimeball villains". He later appeared in The Moneychangers (1976), Backstairs at the White House (1979) and the short-lived 1979 CBS series Time Express.
Honey West is a fictional character created by Gloria and Forest Fickling under the pseudonym "G.G. Fickling", and appearing in eleven mystery novels by the duo.
The character is notable as being one of the first female private detectives in popular fiction. She first appeared in the 1957 book This Girl for Hire and would appear in nine novels before being retired in the mid-60s, with two comeback novels in 1971.
The Honey West character was created by Gloria and Forrest E. "Skip" Fickling under the pseudonym "G.G. Fickling" in the late 1950s.
Forrest Fickling had been a United States Army Air Forces Air Gunner during World War II; he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve after the war, and as a member of that service was called back to active duty during the Korean War. The G.G. represented the initials of his wife, Gloria Gautraud, whom he had married in 1949. The initials were used so the sex of the author would remain vague. Though Gloria said that most of the writing was done by Forrest, he said her ideas helped make the female character more plausible and gave her a good dress sense. Gloria had been an assistant fashion editor at Look magazine and a fashion writer for Women's Wear Daily. Forrest told the Los Angeles Times, "I first thought of Marilyn Monroe, and then I thought of [fictional detective] Mike Hammer and decided to put the two together... We thought the most used name for someone you really like is Honey. And she lives in the West, so there was her name."
(The) Long Way Home may refer to:
The Long Way is the ninth studio album released by American country music artist Doug Stone. It was his only release for the Audium Entertainment label, and its only single ("POW 369", also recorded by Darryl Worley on his 2002 album I Miss My Friend) failed to enter the Billboard country music charts.
The album's last three tracks are new re-recordings of songs previously included on Stone's earlier albums: "More Love" from the 1994 album of the same name, "Born in the Dark" from 1995's Faith in Me, Faith in You, and "I'd Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)" from his 1991 self-titled debut album.
Woodrow Parfrey was one of the all-time great character actors, and I believe this is the only time his name was spoken in the credits of a television show. (It may even be the only time his name was ever "heard" through the airwaves.) During the 1960s and 70s, the TV series produced by Quinn Martin (such as "The Fugitive," "The Streets of San Francisco," "Cannon," "12 O'Clock High," and "Barnaby Jones") all featured spoken guest-star credits over each episode's opening titles. That particular distinction was always reserved for established "name" actors, promising up-and-comers, and the most elite "A-List" day players. Even actors who likely would have been "guest stars" on any other program were relegated to the closing credits on a Quinn Martin show...as Parfrey was before (and after) t...
