Muhammad Mushtaq Qadri Attari (Urdu: محمد مشتاق قادری عطاری) was a na'at khawan.

Early life[link]

Mushtaq Qadri was born on a Sunday, 18th of the month of Ramadan, 1386 A.H. (approximately 31 December 1966), in Banoon Sarhad, Pakistan. His father's name was Akhlaq Ahmad. Before permanently moving to Karachi, he lived in Faisalabad.^[1]

In 1991 Mushtaq Qadri got married. His nikah (matrimonal ceremony) was conducted by his mentor Muhammad Ilyas Qadri. He has four children: Obaid Raza Attari; Abdul Mustafa Attari; Faizan Attari; and Ashfaq Attari.^[2]

Religious influences[link]

Mushtaq Qadri was an associate of the spiritual guide and leader Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Qadri, the head of the Islamic movement Dawat-e-Islami.

In 1986 Mushtaq Qadri gave his spiritual allegiance (bay'ah) to Silsila (Link)Qadriya.^[2] He^[who?] is considered as a mentor of Owais Qadri.

Religious positions[link]

First Qadri was an imām at the Madinah Masjid, in Aurangī Town, Karachi. From 1995 until his death, he also served as an imām and speaker in Jamia Masjid Kanz-ul-Imān (Bābrī Chawk, Karachi, Pakistan.) He had memorized eight Juz (sections) of the Quran. He was also a qārī [one who recites the Quran with its proper recital guidelines.] Considered by some^[who?] as a erudite Muslim scholar, he had finished four years of Dars-i-Nizami. He worked as an auditor for the government for many years. He taught the English language in Jā’amiāt-ul-Madinah (Sabz Market, Karachi, Pakistan.) He performed the Hajj pilgrimage and visited the holy city of Madinah, Saudia Arabia four times.^[3]

In the year 2000 he was appointed as the nigrān (head of Dawat-e-Islami's activities) of Karachi, Pakistan with the approval of all the nigrāns of Karachi. Later, in October of the same year, he was appointed as the nigrān of Markazī Majlis-e-Shūrā (Dawat-e-Islami’s Central Council).^[4]

Due to his dedication to the cause of Dawat-e-Islami, he earned the title Aṭṭār kā Peyārā (the cherished one of Attar). "Attar" refers to Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri.^[5]

Non-commercialism[link]

Mushtaq Attari had never accepted payment for reciting na'at poems. Recording companies had offered him handsome amounts for releasing his albums, but he had refused. He would never ask for a ride to take him to programs where he was invited for reciting, nor would he accept money for taxi fare. He never accepted any money made from his recordings, and any proceeds would be forwarded toward funding Dawat-e-Islami righteous projects.^[2]

Death[link]

Towards the end of life, Mushtaq Qadri was suffering from throat and chest cancer, and could no longer speak. His spiritual guide, Ilyas Attar Qadri, who was in the United Arab Emirates at that time, phoned him and told him to recite the kalima (declaration of faith) and Mushtaq Qadri found himself, surprisingly, able to do so. Mushtaq Qadri died on 29th Sha'aban 1423 A.H. (5 November 2002) in Karachi.^[2]

Upon hearing about his death, Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri immediately returned to Karachi from the Emirates.^[5] The funeral prayer of Mushtaq Attari was offered in Nishtar Park, Karachi, led by Qadri, the founder of Dawat-e-Islami. Mushtaq Attari was buried in Sahrā-e-Madinah (near Toll Plaza, Karachi).^[6]

At the burial the attendees were reciting durood and famous na'at written by Ahmed Raza Khan Bareilvi, such as Kaabay Ke Badrudujaa Tum Pe Karroron Durood. The congregation was held in Faizān-e-Madinaĥ on the third day of the funeral, with many Muslims taking part. Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri (Urdu, Arabic: محمد اویس رضا قادری, born 8 July 1960 in Karachi) is a Pakistani who has travelled widely as a Naat Khawan (reciter of naat).^[1]

Beginning in 1983, he has released several albums, despite having taken no formal na'at classes. Qadri has traveled to England, Canada, Dubai, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, India, Hijaz-e-Muqaddas South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Mauritius, Botswana, Mapoto, Zambia, Suwaziland, Bangladesh, Syria etc. to recite Anasheed .In Vagra,(Dist-Bharuch,Gujarat) India,more than 500,000 people attended one of his performances,In Hyderabad, India, more than 200,000 people attended one of his performances, creating the record for most number of attandees in a Mehfil-e-Na'at. In the course of his performances, he advises young people to acquire adequate knowledge of Islam and to recite at least one ruku of the Qur'an and its Kanzul Iman translation.

Leila Forouhar (Persian: لیلا فروهر‎, born 23 February 1954 in Isfahan, Iran) is a singer and actress from Iran. She relocated to Los Angeles after the Iranian Revolution.

Career[link]

Leila is the daughter of the late Iranian actor Jahangir Forouhar, who had already established a solid background in the Iranian entertainment industry by the early 1970s. She speaks of the great influence her father had upon her interviews. She followed her father's career path into movies, beginning with minor roles in various movies that were based mainly on the social issues of the Shah Shah Pahlavi^{[citation needed]}. In time she became known as a child star, and with the release of Soltaneh Ghalbhaa (King of Hearts), her fame had already spread to all three Persian countries Iran, Tajikistan and Dari speaking country Afghanistan. As a teenager, she had begun modeling for top fashion magazines alongside acting, with roles in Ezteraab, Three Sisters and The Thirsty Ones.Leila has more than 47 films.

Move to France[link]

With the outbreak of war with neighboring Iraq, the Iranian movie and music industry was foundering. Initially Forouhar family decided to stay in Tehran in hopes that the conclusion of the war would signify a return to the pre-revolutionary era^{[citation needed]}. With the war drew stretched on, however, Leila decided to leave the country.

During this time, much of the press speculated about Forouhar's possible comeback to singing, but Forouhar did not grant interviews, desiring to remain unobtrusive (assassinations of famous expatriates were common).

Move to the United States[link]

In 1988 Forouhar and her family moved to the United States quickly establishing contact with Los Angeles based Iranian artists who had fled at the outbreak of the revolution. That same year, she released Makhmal-e-Naz and in 1989 Hedieh ("The Gift"), and the song "Ey Dil" ("Oh My Heart") became very popular^{[citation needed]}, rekindling a craze similar to that inspired by "Cheshma-e-Nour" ("Eye of Light")^{[citation needed]}. Releasing an album a year^{[citation needed]}, by the 1990s she re-established her reputation as a popular female vocalist amongst Persian audiences^{[citation needed]}.

In 2005, Leila married a Los Angeles based Iranian-American businessman in a ceremony that included many fellow singers and entertainers with whom she had made albums^{[citation needed]}. Forouhar's nephew is American Muslim reformer Reza Aslan.
