The International Journal of Neuroscience released a report title "The Effects of Unilateral Forced Nostril Breathing on Cognition". In other words, whether breathing through one nostril makes you smarter or not. In 1996 there was a research paper published in the Journal of Analytical Psychology with the title "Farting as a defence against unspeakable dread". The University of Bristol performed a study that was published in Nature Magazine on the optimal way to dunk a biscuit The University of East Anglia published a report calculating the best way to make a teapot spout that does not drip. Dalhousie University released a research report entitle "The Comparative Palatability of Some Dry-Season Tadpoles from Costa Rica" Cornell University and the University of Illinois published a modest report titled "Unskilled and Unaware of it: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments McGill University in Canada made waves with their impactful medical report "Injuries Due to Falling Coconuts" The University of Massachusetts came out with a partial explanation of the shower-curtain effect, or why the shower curtain tends to billow inwards while a shower is being taken.- published: 15 Jan 2014

In summer 2011, Outdoor Research athlete Kyle Dempster took off on his bike across Kyrgyzstan with a couple mostly-accurate maps, a trailer full of climbing gear, and a vocabulary of 10 Kyrgyz words. He spent two months pedaling and pushing the bike more than 1200 km on roads of variable states of neglect, wading through wild rivers, dealing with corrupt military checkpoint staff, and soloing a handful of unclimbed alpine rock and mixed routes. He recorded the journey, his camera his only partner, friend, and sometimes the only receiving end of his conversations for days at a time.
In 2013, Kyle’s self-shot footage of his journey in Kyrgyzstan made it to the desk of filmmakers Fitz Cahall and Austin Siadak, who were asked to look at the footage and see if there might be enough to chop together a 4-minute climbing film. They saw a lot more potential in it, and turned it into the 25-minute “The Road From Karakol,” which debuted at the 5Point Film Festival and took home the Best In Fest award.

Roger Stein: A bold new way to fund drug research
Roger Stein: A bold new way to fund drug research
Believe it or not, about 20 years' worth of potentially life-saving drugs are sitting in labs right now, untested. Why? Because they can't get the funding to go to trials; the financial risk is too high. Roger Stein is a finance guy, and he thinks deeply about mitigating risk. He and some colleagues at MIT came up with a promising new financial model that could move hundreds of drugs into the testing pipeline. (Filmed at TED@StateStreet.)
