John Colicos
John Colicos (December 10, 1928 – March 6, 2000) was a Canadian actor. He was a distinguished stage actor in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
Career
Colicos was born in Montreal, Quebec, to a Greek father and a Canadian mother.
In 1957 he appeared in Mary Stuart at the Phoenix Theatre in New York City and in 1963 he appeared in Troilus and Cressida at the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. His other New York theatre credits are King Lear (1956), The Devils (1965–1966), Serjeant Musgrave's Dance (1966), and Soldiers (1968). Mr. Colicos' skill in acting resulted in his being chosen to play the title role in a memorable and first-ever production of King Lear (1964) at the Stratford Festival.
He appeared as Monks in a television version of Oliver Twist for the DuPont Show of the Month series in 1959. He also gave memorable performances in 1966 in The Secret Storm, as the unscrupulous Thomas Cromwell in the 1969 film version of Anne of the Thousand Days, and as the governor of Umakran in the episode "The Goddess Calabra" from the 1973 TV show The Starlost.

Lex Barker (u nás známý především jako Old Shatterhand či další hrdinové ze zfilmovaných „Mayovek“) zde ztvárnil apačského náčelníka jménem Mangas Coloradas, který je téměř ostrakizován svým kmenem poté, co si vezme za ženu zajatou mexickou dívku Rivu (Joan Taylor). Riva zároveň způsobuje konflikt mezi Mangasem a jeho přítelem, bílým obchodníkem Lukem Fargem (Ben Johnson), protože ji milují oba. Mangas je nakonec svým kmenem přijat zpět, ale Riva se odmítá chovat jako typická squaw, a tak se stane, že jí náčelník místo toho naučí být apačským válečníkem. Zklamaný Fargo dojedná mír mezi Apači a bílými osadníky, ale bezohlední zlatokopové vyvolají válku a Fargo nyní musí zabránit obrovskému krveprolití. Spolu s milostným trojúhelníkem snímek zdařile vykresluje napětí mezi Apači a bělochy v Arizoně 60. let 19. století, k němuž však neodmyslitelně patří i boje a násilí.

In October 2009, a deathly ill Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) confides in her longtime rival Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) that she needs his help to fend off her evil stepson Valentin. According to Helena, the illegitimate Valentin had been disowned by his father Mikkos (John Colicos) upon his birth, denying him the privileges of being a Cassadine. Helena contacts Valentin hoping to use him against her rebellious grandson, Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) but instead, Valentin overpowers Helena taking over the family's private island in Greece and he slowly poisons Helena. Valentin's henchmen try to keep Helena, Luke from escaping with Helena only for Nikolas to come to her rescue. She warns everyone that Valentin has promised to destroy not only the Cassadines, but also the Spencers. Mikkos's daughter Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) reveals that she had only heard of her brother's treachery toward their father specifically, but Alexis had come to believe the never before seen Valentin was only a front for Helena and her schemes. Luke later accuses Helena of having Valentin murdered and she admits that she thought Valentin had died as well but later realized that he is alive and well. Much like Luke and Alexis, Nikolas believes Valentin is long dead and that Helena is just using the threat of Valentin to manipulate him.
Matt Borlenghi was originally cast in the role of Valentin in 2009, before plans to introduce the character were abandoned.

Paul Scofield in Amadeus at the National Theatre
This was a magnificent production. I was so lucky to work on it. Such eloquent writing from Peter Shaffer, leaving Peter Hall needing little more to do than allow these gargantuan talents to just get on with it. John Bury's set design and lighting were a revelation. I'd worked on many West End musicals with their huge rigs and staging, and here Bury's simplicity stunned me. It was minimal without being in the least bit austere. It was pure elegance. Except... except maybe for that huge chandelier (that my drinking buddy Steve Milne up in flies one day sent crashing to the stage!). Young Simon Callow's Mozart was the performance of a lifetime. The part seemed written for him. And maybe it was - Shaffer would sit in on rehearsals making notes which would then become re-writes. But the gr...

This was a magnificent production. I was so lucky to work on it.
Such eloquent writing from Peter Shaffer, leaving Peter Hall needing little more to do than allow these gargantuan talents to just get on with it.
John Bury's set design and lighting were a revelation. I'd worked on many West End musicals with their huge rigs and staging, and here Bury's simplicity stunned me. It was minimal without being in the least bit austere. It was pure elegance. Except... except maybe for that huge chandelier (that my drinking buddy Steve Milne up in flies one day sent crashing to the stage!).
Young Simon Callow's Mozart was the performance of a lifetime. The part seemed written for him. And maybe it was - Shaffer would sit in on rehearsals making notes which would then become re-writes.
But the grand centerpiece was Scofield's Salieri. Watch this clip and weep. And somehow he did that every night...
I also worked on the NT tour with Frank Finlay playing the lead (Scofield refused to tour) and it was remarkable how the two men could deliver the same lines, with the same directions, and yet be so very different. Finlay was Everyman, consumed with jealousy, and feeling he deserved Mozart's genius. While Scofield was the cultured civilized man who really could claim some genuine title to it. A little ironic perhaps that Finlay was an active catholic, and on the tour would seek out the nearest RC church to pray each morning.
I shall never forget Scofield's performance. Such a brilliant actor, and the stage is now very much a lesser place without him.

In October 2009, a deathly ill Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) confides in her longtime rival Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) that she needs his help to fend off her evil stepson Valentin. According to Helena, the illegitimate Valentin had been disowned by his father Mikkos (John Colicos) upon his birth, denying him the privileges of being a Cassadine. Helena contacts Valentin hoping to use him against her rebellious grandson, Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) but instead, Valentin overpowers Helena taking over the family's private island in Greece and he slowly poisons Helena. Valentin's henchmen try to keep Helena, Luke from escaping with Helena only for Nikolas to come to her rescue. She warns everyone that Valentin has promised to destroy not only the Cassadines, but also the Spencers. Mikkos's daughter Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) reveals that she had only heard of her brother's treachery toward their father specifically, but Alexis had come to believe the never before seen Valentin was only a front for Helena and her schemes. Luke later accuses Helena of having Valentin murdered and she admits that she thought Valentin had died as well but later realized that he is alive and well. Much like Luke and Alexis, Nikolas believes Valentin is long dead and that Helena is just using the threat of Valentin to manipulate him.
Matt Borlenghi was originally cast in the role of Valentin in 2009, before plans to introduce the character were abandoned.
