Neulich bei den Otter-Fischern... Lately with the otter fisher...
[english text below] Eine unheilvolle Allianz - für Fische... (mehr auf http://www.lonesome-traveler.de/de/touren/single-packages/wochentouren/otter-fischen#lt009) A disastrous alliance - for the fish... Life is rugged for fish, at least here in the area around Narail in the last runners of the Ganges Delta deeply in the south of Bangladesh. Their predator number 1 the human (represent by the river fishermen) an alliance, rather disastrous for the fish, with another nasty customer has entered, with Lutrogale Perspicillata better known as Indian smooth-coated otter. The fishermen farm and train them and with lots of patience the otters grow up into excellent accomplices of the fishermen (naturally they are already excellent fish catchers) so that the otters afterwards fun have to herd the fish in the nets of her human friends and not to eat independently, for an adequate reward of course. The most valuable property of the fishing families are therefore the otters, nevertheless, they protect the income (better the survival) of the family... 2013.12.20 : Smooth-coated Otter : Sighting
20th December 2013: Save for a couple of Milky Storks, all was quiet at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Then from the corner of our eyes, we saw them - a family of Smooth-coated Otters (Lutrogale perspicillata). All seven of them. Bounding over the low wetland banks and into Sungei Buloh. These sleek creatures took to water like fish as soon as they had their fill from a waterhole. And just as quick, they were out from the water and bounding across grassy banks on the other side of the river. Grooming and gamboling, before disappearing from sight. Awesome start to a morning, I must say. Music by: Relaxdaily - N°052 (http://www.youtube.com/user/relaxdaily) Narration: "At 8:30 a.m., a group of seven otters were seen at the Sungei Buoloh Wetland Reserve. Adapted for an aquatic lifestyle, the Smooth-coated Otters are found near water bodies such as mangrove forests freshwater wetlands. Regardless, they are just as equally comfortable on the ground as they are in water, and can travel far on land to search for suitable habitats. Otters are excellent swimmers. They swim by moving their hind legs and tail. When swimming fast, the otter's whole body and its tail will undulate up and down, while the hind feet steer. At lower speeds or even floating, the otters will "dog paddle" with all four feet. Otters spend a lot of time grooming. They must do so to maintain their fur in good condition. Many species of river otters go to certain areas to dry and groom their fur. They dry and groom themselves by rolling on the ground or rubbing against vegetation/logs."
