I think we are being unfair to this Abbott ‘no surprises’ Government. I am not surprised. (0)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Snouts in the trough: capitalism is corrupt
Big business, politicians, even sports people are ripping off the system with their corruption. Tony Abbott’s expense rorts are not an aberration. Corruption is part and parcel of capitalism and a consequence of the exploitation of workers. Only by overthrowing the ruling class can we abolish the corruption of the system and its rulers and hangers-on and begin a new society where production is organised democratically to satisfy human need. The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement
Haven’t heard about the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, a neoliberal and imperialist wet dream? Not surprising since it is being negotiated in secret and Abbott will try to spring it on us soon enough. I have written about it in the next Red Flag, due out on Wednesday. Subscribe now. And yes, we have digital subscriptions too. https://shop.redflag.org.au/?q=product-category%2Fred-flag-subscriptions (1)

NSA hacks Rupert Murdoch's phones
In breaking news the NSA has confirmed it has hacked Rupert Murdoch’s private phones for eleven years. ‘The fight against terrorism knows no bounds,’ spokesthing Joseph Dzhugashvili said.  Barack Obama said ‘Of course.’ Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott denied Australia’s spy agencies had broken any AUSTRALIAN laws in helping the Americans. A sick system: 85 people own the same as 3.5 billion poorest

Anyone who believes that wealth “trickles down” from rich to poor would be stunned by the latest figures writes Dave Sewell in Socialist Worker UK.

The world’s richest 1 percent own 65 times more than the combined wealth of the bottom 50 percent.

And the top 85 billionaires alone have more between them than the bottom 3.5 billion people.

Capitalism: unequal by design

The capitalist system must maintain inequality as a function of the drive for profits writes Socialist Worker US.

I could live on $6321 a week

The shift of wealth to the rich over the last few decades and increasing poverty has been in part because we workers haven’t fought back. The time has come to tell the very very well paid Jenny Macklin and the ruling class she represents that the poverty she and the rest of the Gillard Labor government create through their deliberate policies has to end now. That can only come about through a massive societal and industrial campaign to prioritise the poor and working class over the rich and business.

Capitalism is the cause of inequality

Between $21 and $32 trillion – as much as Japan and America’s GDPs combined – has been stashed in offshore tax havens by the world’s richest 10 million individuals. Just 92,000 of them claim a $9.8 trillion dollar share.

Australia – egalitarian and classless?

The time has come to fight back, to win a more equal society by striking for big real wage increases. And the time has come to redistribute wealth away from them and back to us by fighting to cut the working week to 30 hours.

This is the one percent’s ‘democracy’

Obama is speaking to the politicians of Australia’s one percent on Thursday. That day there is a demonstration against him at Federation Park outside Parliament House in Canberra at lunchtime. Be there to show your support for the Wall Street Occupiers and the protesters around the globe. And for the other members of the Occupy movement across Australia – support the 99% in struggle. Support the QANTAS workers, the Baiada picketers, the maritime workers, the public servants, the nurses, all those fighting for better wages and conditions. That is our future. That is our hope.
