The welcome fact remains: more than 100,000 came out onto the streets in the first big public break with the Abbott government.

Only by engaging with people at the point at which they enter the struggle can we have a hope of cohering them into a fighting force capable of slogging it out over the longer term. Only in that way can we take the fight not just to Abbott but to the whole rotten system, which he promotes so enthusiastically.

The fact that over 100000 people turned out across Australia to demonstrate against this Government should give us hope that we can continue the fight and build a mass movement against Abbott and neoliberalism. Let’s try anyway and see what happens.

What Labor’s neoliberalism does is pave the way for right wing Liberal governments whom Labor then tries to outbid with right wing Labor policies. It is the dance of neoliberalism – right foot, right foot, right foot, the two parties jowl to flabby jowl and going round and round in an ever diminishing circle of free style neoliberalism.

Nationalism acts as glue binding us to the very class that exploits us and demands that we work harder and for less writes Diane Fieldes in Red Flag. By accepting the narrative about border protection, we concede the legitimacy of the ruling class determining where workers can and can’t live, and therefore how we can live our lives. That’s why we need to recognise the right of all people to move freely around the world.

As more and more people realise the apartheid nature of Israel and while ever the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign grows and contributes to that success, the louder and louder will the cries of anti-Semitism flow from those with an interest in defending the apartheid regime. They cannot rebut the substance of the arguments that show the apartheid nature of Israel so they resort to unsubstantiated assertions, lies and innuendos of the sort found in this cheap piece of gutter journalism. The mass movements have saved the revolution over and over again – in their mobilisations, in their defence of production, in their massive electoral support, and in their solidarity. They are the forces of Chavismo, not a political compromise between hostile classes.

Whatever the immediate future, these are the only forces that will carry the revolution forward.
