White British was an ethnicity classification used in the 2001 United Kingdom Census. As a result of the census, 50,366,497 people (85.7% of the population) in the United Kingdom were classified as White British. In Scotland the classification was broken down into two different categories: White Scottish and Other White British. The classification did not appear in Northern Ireland where the comparable classification is described simply as White. As such, a single White British choice only existed in the census in one of the three census areas of the United Kingdom: England and Wales. The two subcategories used in the census in Scotland are grouped within White British for the purposes of UK-wide statistical analysis.

The 2001 census included the category White Irish as an ethnic classification in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales). The term 'British' in White British means being of British ancestry rather than being a British citizen. Non-British and non-Irish respondents in Great Britain could choose White Other. Neither of these classifications appeared in Northern Ireland.

Marco Pierre White (born 11 December 1961) is a British celebrity chef, restaurateur and television personality. He is noted for his contributions to contemporary international cuisine, and his exceptional culinary skills.

White has been dubbed the first celebrity chef, the enfant terrible of the UK restaurant scene and the Godfather of modern cooking. White was, at the time, the youngest chef ever to have been awarded three Michelin stars. He has trained chefs such as Gordon Ramsay.

Marco Pierre White was the third of four boys born to Italian mother Maria-Rosa Gallina, who had come to Britain to learn English, and chef Frank White, who had struck up a conversation with Maria at the Griffin Hotel in Leeds while he was playing cards.

After marrying in 1954, they lived in a council house in East Leeds, and had sons Graham (1955), Clive (1957) (also a chef) and Marco. Six years later, Maria gave birth to a fourth son, Craig Simon. Two days afterwards, she collapsed and was taken back to St James's University Hospital, Leeds, where she died of a brain haemorrhage at the age of 38.

White Town is a British musical act and is the work of one man, Jyoti Prakash Mishra.

Mishra was born in Rourkela, Orissa, India on 30 July 1966 and has lived in England since the age of three. White Town is often regarded as a one-hit wonder for its 1997 song "Your Woman", which reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart in January of that year, and #23 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

"Your Woman" is a reworking of the 1932 Bing Crosby song "My Woman", composed by Crosby (lyrics), Irving Wallman, and Max Wartell (music and lyrics). Al Bowlly, who was a vocalist in the Ray Noble Orchestra, recorded a version of "My Woman" on 29 November 1932 with the Lew Stone and the Monseigneur Band in London. The Bowlly version was featured in the Pennies from Heaven film and soundtrack, and it was this version that White Town sampled for "Your Woman".

White Town was formed by Mishra in 1989 after he saw Pixies play. Initially there were other members on guitar, bass and drums playing support gigs for various bands including Primal Scream. In 1990 he released his first self financed record, White Town EP, on 7" vinyl. This featured Nick Glyn-Davis on drums and Sean Deegan on bass with Mishra on guitar and vocals. Glyn-Davis left and was replaced live by a drum machine and Leon Wilson on guitar. The rest of the band drifted away in Autumn 1990 and from then on Mishra mainly worked on his own, using other musicians to record with, including Gary Thatcher on guitar of the Derby band The Beekeepers.
