Sir John Douglas Hazen, PC, KCMG (June 5, 1860 – December 27, 1937) was a politician in New Brunswick, Canada.
Known by his second name, Douglas, he entered politics in 1885 when he was elected as an alderman in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He became mayor in 1888.
Hazen was elected to the Canadian House of Commons as a Conservative candidate in the 1891 federal election. He lost his seat in the 1896 election that defeated the Conservatives and brought Wilfrid Laurier's Liberals to power.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in 1899, and became leader of the opposition. Hazen rebuilt the Conservative Party which had been out of power since 1883. He led the party into government in the 1908 provincial election.
As premier, Hazen fought political corruption and attempts by the federal government to reduce the Maritime provinces' representation in the federal House of Commons.
Douglas Hazen left provincial politics in 1911 to become federal Minister of Marine and Fisheries and Minister of the Naval Service in the government of Sir Robert Borden. During the First World War, he served in the Imperial War Cabinet. Hazen left politics in October 1917 to become Chief Justice of New Brunswick.
John Douglas (3 June 1956 – 12 July 2010) was an American conductor, voice teacher, vocal coach, and accompanist.
Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, Douglas graduated from Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky in 1973. In 1977 he graduated from Wittenberg University with a Bachelor of Music degree, and in 1979 he earned a Master of Music in piano performance from Bowling Green State University. In 1979 he joined the faculty of the New England Conservatory where he served as the head of the music staff through 1989. He concurrently served on the voice faculty of the Boston Conservatory as an instructor of European diction from 1980 to 1989. He was also an instructor of German diction and repertoire coach at the American Institute for Musical Studies in Graz, Austria in 1985 and 1986.
In 1989 Douglas joined the faculty of the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University as an associate professor in the department of voice and opera; remaining there until his death 21 years later. He became the music director and conductor of the school's Opera Theatre program, notably conducting more than 50 student opera productions. He was the recipient of the Temple University Faculty Award for Creative Achievement in 2006.
Sir John Douglas KCMG (1835 – 23 August 1885) was the Irish-born son of Lt Gen Sir James Dawes Douglas (1795–1862) and Marianne Bullock.
He was in the Civil Service of Mauritius 1859–1869 when he transferred to Ceylon where he was Auditor-General between 1869–1876. He became Colonial Secretary of the Straits Settlements in 1876–1878 before returning to Ceylon as Lieut.-Governor and Colonial Secretary, 1878–1880. He was appointed Acting Governor, 10 July 1883 – 3 December 1883.
Sir John married, in 1871, Alice Anne, daughter of Right Rev. Piers Calveley Claughton (d1884), Bishop of Colombo, Ceylon. They had five children. He died August 23, 1885.
Sir John Douglas (died 4 March 1814) was a British officer of the Royal Marines who, with his wife Charlotte, Lady Douglas, was involved in a scandal regarding an allegedly illegitimate child born to the Princess of Wales, Caroline of Brunswick.
Sir John Douglas was born at Jean Fields, Dalkeith, near Edinburgh; he was the son of Louis Douglas, Esq.; his grandfather was a lord of Session.
John Douglas began his military service at age thirteen. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Royal Marines on 14 February 1776 and promoted to first lieutenant on 9 April 1778. While serving as on recruitment duties in Gloucester, he met Charlotte Hopkinson, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel George Caesar Hopkinson, late of the 15th Dragoons. Her family were acquaintances of antiquarian Samuel Lysons. Colonel Hopkinson bought the estate of Wotton in 1790.

Douglas married 17 June 1797, at Gloucester: , Charoltte, daughter of a private soldier, named Hephinson or Hopkinson, who was soon made a Sergeant; later becoming an army agent and subsequently became a Colonel, wealthy with an estate near Gloucester.

Most of the time when you see John Douglas Wayside between Lebanon and Abingdon, Virginia, your first thought usually isn't history but more likely, "yikes, I better hit the breaks so the cops won't bust me for speeding," I have the tickets to prove this is a legitimate fear. The real story is that this wayside is named in honor of John Douglas who was a scout at Black's Fort (now known as the town of Abingdon). In July 1776, Douglas was with a friend, William Benham, on a mission to warn residents of the Clinch Settlements of an impending Indian attack. Douglas and Benham had stopped along the way to eat lunch on a flat rock near the sight of the John Douglas Wayside when a shot rang out of the mountains and Douglas was killed. The shooter was never found but was presumed to be a warrio...
