We Are The World 25 For Haiti - Official Video
Recorded on February 1st, 2010, in the same studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M; Recording Studios) "We Are The World 25 For Haiti", in which Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti. Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici. The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti.- published: 13 Feb 2010

Going to Haiti: A Warm Welcome
Going to Haiti: A Warm Welcome
The CrossFit Journal -- (http://journal.crossfit.com) Haiti is the poorest place Emily Beers has ever been. Life expectancy is 61 years, and in the tiny village of McDonald going to school is optional for children—half the population never learns to read. It's here that Beers' friend Julie Roberts has spent so much time, starting microcredit loans and funding latrine projects. "Basically, we're making a small investment to people that can't afford a business," Roberts explains. "What they end up doing with the capital is as they make profit, they pay the loan forward to their neighbor, to somebody else nominated in the community, and so it grows exponentially." The loans are a way to avoid being dependent on the international community, says Kane Morgan, another one of Beers' friends on the trip. "What it ends up doing is empowering the individual to realize, 'If I put in the hard work, I can better my condition in the long run,'" he says. Among the businesses is one that purchased a pig, which has since given birth to piglets. "It's amazing how something small, like a litter of pigs," Beers says, "can bring so much hope to an entire village." Video by Carey Peterson.- published: 28 Sep 2013

In Haiti: A road trip documentary (Kreyòl)
Watch the movie in oder languages & check out the video interviews with the filmmakers: www.inhaitifilm.com Synopsis: An unique road trip. An unprecedented, genuine portrait of Haiti. Filmed in Cap-Haitien, Hinche, Port-au-Prince and Petit Goave in 2008, two years before the devastating earthquake -- world food prices were dramatically increasing and an UN peacekeeping mission was going on. The film is a record of pre-earthquake Haiti. In Haiti follows the two filmmakers and friends, Florian Wiesner and Fabian Bohnet-Waldraff on a month-long road trip through the island. During their journey they get immersed in the different and complex aspects of haitian reality. Instead of focusing on the usual poverty/violence topics seen in the mass media, the filmmakers present a colorful and deeper picture of the country and its people. The movie is also about road stories, improbabilities, impressions and anecdotes. Some of the issues explored by this documentary are: The school and health system, the causes of deforestation and food insecurity. An insight is also given on the history of the country and the voodoo religion. In October 2012, Nick, Dave, Francisco and I, set off on a 10 day journey along the Southern coast of Haiti in the back of a pickup. Our goal? To capture a side of Haiti that is rarely seen. Having been to Port Au Prince multiple times, it was refreshing to see Haiti in a new light. It's important to recognize that the images typically shown of Haiti, or any 3rd world country, do not necessarily represent the country as a whole. It has nothing to do with putting blinders on to problems and needs, but all to do with expanding your perception of a country.
We hope that these images can help motivate someone to get out and go somewhere that may seem scary or intimidating. When you get into it, it's not all bad.

Haiti In The 1950's
Haiti In The 1950's
This video is about Haiti In The 1950's before the ruling of François Duvalier also known as Papa Doc.... François Duvalier (14 April 1907 -- 21 April 1971), also known as 'Papa Doc' Duvalier, was the President of Haiti from 1957 until his death in 1971. He opposed a military coup d'état in 1950, and was elected president in 1957 on a populist and black nationalist platform. His rule, based on a purged military, a rural militia known as the Tonton Macoute and the use of a personality cult and voodoo, resulted in the murder of an estimated 30,000 Haitians and the exile of many more. Ruling as President for Life from 1964 until his death in 1971, Duvalier was initially known for successfully fighting diseases, gaining him the nickname 'Papa Doc' ("Daddy Doc[tor]" in French). He was succeeded by his son, Jean-Claude, nicknamed "Baby Doc". Duvalier was born in Port-au-Prince, the son of Duval Duvalier, a justice of the peace, and Ulyssia Abraham, a baker. He was largely raised by an aunt. He completed a degree in medicine from the University of Haiti in 1934. He served as staff physician at several local hospitals. He spent a year at the University of Michigan studying public health.[5] In 1943, he became active in a United States-sponsored campaign to control the spread of contagious tropical diseases, helping the poor to fight typhus, yaws, malaria and other tropical diseases that ravaged Haiti for years. His patients affectionately called him "Papa Doc", a moniker that he used throughout his life. Lucky enough to be schooled and literate in a country where few were educated, Duvalier witnessed the political turmoil of his country. The United States occupation of Haiti which began in 1915, followed by its incessant violent repressions of political dissent, left a powerful impression on the young Duvalier. He was also aware of the latent political power of the poor black majority and their resentment against the tiny mulatto elite. Duvalier became involved in the négritude movement of Haitian author Dr. Jean Price-Mars. He began an ethnological study of Vodou that later paid enormous political dividends. In 1938, Duvalier co-founded the journal Les Griots. In 1939, Duvalier married Simone Ovide, with whom he had four children: Marie Denise, Nicole, Simone and Jean-Claude.- published: 28 Jan 2014
