Patrón

Patrón is a brand of tequila products produced in Mexico by the Patrón Spirits Company.

Patrón brand tequila is offered in several different varieties: Gran Patrón Burdeos, Gran Patrón Platinum, Gran Patrón Piedra, Patrón Silver, Patrón Añejo, and Patrón Reposado. It is also available in a tequila-coffee blend known as Patrón XO Cafe, a tequila-chocolate-coffee blend known as Patrón XO Cafe Dark Cocoa, and an orange liqueur known as Patrón Citrónge.

Patrón tequilas, like all tequilas, are made from the "Maguey" (heart or core) of the blue agave plant.

History

The original Patrón Tequila was produced by Casa 7 Leguas, one of the oldest Mexican distilleries. St. Maarten Spirits (owners John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley) purchased the brand rights in 1989 and in 2002 production moved to a new distillery.

In 2000, Ed Brown took over as CEO, and began to distance the Patrón brand from the reputation of tequila in the US as a bad-tasting spirit and what people drank for extremely quick intoxication. Following the advertising strategy of Grey Goose, Patrón presented its tequila as "premium" and signalled "taste and sophistication" through individually-numbered glass bottles. The target audience is mostly vodka drinkers in nightclubs and trendy bars. Through persistent references by country music and hip hop singers, and by Lil Jon in particular, Patrón has become a fixture of popular culture.

Patron Tequila (song)

"Patron Tequila" is a song by The Paradiso Girls featuring Lil Jon and female rapper Eve, intended to appear on their debut unreleased studio album, Crazy Horse. The song was released as the album's lead single in the United States on April 14, 2009. The Paradiso Girls have released The Remixes and The Remixes Part 2 to promote the song.

Background and history

The song was written and produced by Keri Hilson, Lil Jon and T-Pain for Hilson's debut studio album In a Perfect World.... However, at the last minute before her album's turn in date, the song was given to the Paradiso Girls. The group recorded the song and made several alterations. Lil Jon's verse was omitted whilst T-Pain was replaced with US female rapper Eve.

The song was released in the US on April 14, 2009 as a CD Single and digital download, along with a release in Canada. The girls will be promoting the song throughout October 2009 in Canada.

Reception

Critical response

The song was given mainly positive reviews. Many online sites created a "Who Did It Better?" poll, comparing the Paradiso version to the Hilson version. The song was named MuuMuse's "Summer Jam of 2009".

Tequila

Tequila (Spanish  [teˈkila] ) is a regional specific name for a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 km (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the north western Mexican state of Jalisco. Although tequila is a kind of mezcal, modern tequila differs somewhat in the method of its production, in the use of only blue agave plants, as well as in its regional specificity.

The red volcanic soil in the surrounding region is particularly well suited to the growing of the blue agave, and more than 300 million of the plants are harvested there each year. Agave tequila grows differently depending on the region. Blue agaves grown in the highlands Los Altos region are larger in size and sweeter in aroma and taste. Agaves harvested in the lowlands, on the other hand, have a more herbaceous fragrance and flavor.

Mexican laws state that tequila can only be produced in the state of Jalisco and limited municipalities in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. Tequila is recognized as a Mexican designation of origin product in more than 40 countries. It is protected through NAFTA in Canada and the United States, through bilateral agreements with individual countries such as Japan and Israel, and has been a protected designation of origin product in the constituent countries of the European Union since 1997.

Tequila (Wes Montgomery album)

Tequila is the seventeenth jazz album recorded by guitarist Wes Montgomery and released in 1966.

History

Tequila is a mixture of tracks using just a jazz quartet with Ron Carter, Grady Tate and Ray Barretto and the rest with a string section arranged by Claus Ogerman. It is mainly a Latin-flavored album, the first Montgomery recorded without a keyboardist.

It was reissued on CD in 1999 and 2008 with alternate takes that are listed below.

Reception

In his Allmusic review, music critic Scott Yanow singled out individual tracks as those giving Montgomery the opportunity to jam and those backed with string arrangements. The few tracks he praises he claims "uplift this album quite a bit beyond the guitarist's later A&M recordings."

Jazz writer Josef Woodard called the album "an airy, melodious record, with the standout track being the gently brooding Montgomery original "Bumpin' on Sunset," which features him playing double octaves-the same note played in three octaves."
