According to an extensive U.S. study, mammograms have led to more than ONE MILLION WOMEN being "over-diagnosed" with the disease over the past 30 years. This means the mammograms detected tumours that would never have developed into full-blown disease. It also means that many of these women have undergone unnecessary and invasive drug treatment and radical surgery due to misdiagnoses. It's a known fact that mammography has a minimum 5% "false positive" rate, meaning for every 20 women tested, one will be told they have breast cancer when in fact they don't. Many studies have shown this to be a conservative figure, and this latest report evidences that. Half-Truths and Outright Lies "Although the risk of breast cancer increases with age and the "1 in 9" figure applies to women who are 80 and over, it does not limit itself to elderly women. In Canada there will be about 100 women diagnosed with breast cancer between the ages of 20-29 and 1000 between the ages 30-39 this year." - Dr. Karen Gelmon, MD, FRCPC, Chair Breast Tumour Group, BC Cancer Agency, Vancouver, B.C; Canada Extrapolate those figures and in total, 1100 women between the ages of 20-39 will be diagnosed with breast cancer. (this in 2004 when the report was published). Population figures in that year for females aged 20-39 was approximately 4,000,000. (Source: Statistics Canada) Therefore, according to the Cancer Agency's own data, the odds of a woman aged 20-39 being diagnosed with breast cancer is approximately 1 in 4000 -- a far cry from the "1 in 9" ratio commonly publicized in the industry's fear-mongering campaigns. Some ads are even targeting teens for these invasive treatments. Since ionizing radiation is one of the known causes of cancer and all exposures are cumulative, every mammogram or x-ray increases your chances of contracting breast cancer. The study also concluded that mammography had little impact on reducing the number of cases of late-stage breast cancer, and had little effect on the rate of death from breast cancer. This contradicts the cancer industry's claim that "survival rates" for breast cancer are increasing due to early their interventions and detections. Statistics Don't Lie But Liars Can Figure Statistics for breast cancer survivors are dubious at best because they only account for women who are still alive 5 years after their initial treatment. If the patient dies the following year, or anytime after the 5 year period, they are still listed in the record books as a "survivor." Obviously the statistics wouldn't look so positive for the industry if the period was extended beyond 5 years. It's one of the many deceptions the cancer society utilizes to dupe the public into undergoing their injurious and highly profitable treatments. It's high time the public woke up to the fact they're being duped and the only ones benefiting from all the pink-washing and research and treatment into the disease are those with a vested interest in the economic health of an industry where the stratagem insures the public will be kept in the dark about any possible "cures." "My overall assessment is that the National Cancer Program must be judged a qualified failure." - Dr. John Bailer, U.S. National Cancer Institute Important Cancer Information You Were Never Told (from The National Cancer Institute - Diethylstilbestrol and Cancer) ⦁ Diethylstilbestrol (DES) is a synthetic form of the hormone estrogen that was prescribed to pregnant women between 1940 and 1971 to prevent miscarriage, premature labor, and related complications of pregnancy. ⦁ Women who took DES during pregnancy have an increased risk of breast cancer. ⦁ Increased risks of clear cell adenocarcinoma of the vagina and cervix and of breast cancer have been found for daughters of women who took DES during pregnancy; fertility problems are also more common among these daughters. ⦁ Other health problems have been found for both daughters and sons of women who took DES during pregnancy; studies of the grandchildren of these women are just beginning. ⦁ People who were exposed to DES should be aware of the possible health effects and tell their doctor about their exposure. ⦁ Currently underway in Boston Federal Court is litigation filed by 53 DES daughters who say their breast cancers were the result of DES being prescribed to their mothers while pregnant with them.
