Who Killed Lindbergh's Baby - Kidnapping Crime Documentary
Who Killed Lindbergh's Baby - Kidnapping Crime Documentary The kidnapping of Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Jr., the son of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, was one of the most highly publicized crimes of the 20th century. The 20-month-old toddler was abducted from his family home in East Amwell, New Jersey on the evening of March 1, 1932. Over two months later, on May 12, 1932, his body was discovered a short distance from the Lindberghs' home in neighboring Hopewell Township. A medical examination determined that the cause of death was a massive skull fracture. After an investigation that lasted more than two years, Bruno Richard Hauptmann was arrested and charged with the crime. In a trial that was held from January 2 to February 13, 1935, Hauptmann was found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced to death. He was executed by electric chair at the New Jersey State Prison on April 3, 1936, at 8:44 in the evening. Hauptmann proclaimed his innocence to the end. Newspaper writer H. L. Mencken called the kidnapping and subsequent trial "the biggest story since the Resurrection". The crime spurred Congress to pass the Federal Kidnapping Act, commonly called the "Lindbergh Law", which made transporting a kidnapping victim across state lines a federal crime.- published: 14 Jan 2014

Charles Lindbergh - From New York to Paris 1927
Charles Lindbergh's solo flight across the Atlantic on May 20-21, 1927 is seen as one of the most important events of the 20th century, but memories have dimmed and, in an age when jet airplanes routinely cross the Atlantic Ocean with hundreds of passengers, we have lost sight of its significance. Accompanied by film footage of Lindbergh's flight, Professor Emerita Janet Lieberman of La Guardia Community College/CUNY gives her childhood recollections of the event and a Brooklyn parade celebrating Lindbergh, which she attended with her family. The magnificent Brooklyn parade took place on June 16, its 22-mile route crowded with 700,000 school children and their parents.
Lindbergh was a little-known air mail pilot based in St. Louis in early January 1927, when he heard about a $25,000 prize being offered to the first non-stop flight between New York and Paris. Lindbergh's historic flight earned him this prize and the adulation of the nation. Radio and newsreel film, new media of the age, spread news of his feat in ways unimaginable only ten years earlier. The 1920s was a decade of ballyhoo and heroes, and the Lone Eagle's transatlantic flight made him the quintessential hero of the era. His momentous feat also became the catalyst for the growth and preeminence of the American aviation industry, overtaking its European rivals.
This is only one piece of the Lindbergh story. To learn more about Lindbergh, including the kidnapping of his son, his associations with Nazi Germany, and support of American isolationism, see the excellent biography "The Flight of the Century: Charles Lindbergh & the Rise of American Aviation" by CUNY Distinguished Professor Thomas Kessner. http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/general/subject/HistoryAmerican/19001945/?view=...

Ocean Flight
Ocean Flight is an allegorical re-imagining of Charles Lindbergh's revolutionary solo trans- Atlantic flight. His story is re-told as a cyborg meeting of man and media. Referencing the visuality of Hollywood "green-screen" illusion, the live-feed image of Lindbergh is captured via interactive video software and "composited" into real-space via hand-held projection screens.
However, the visuality of the computer graphical user interface (windows, icons, direct manipulation) is also alluded to. The theatricality of integrating human behavior and digital information is critically addressed by showing all stages of the media transformation: camera, performer, and virtual stage. The resulting experience is one where the audience sees both mechanism and illusion, climaxing at Lindbergh's fleeting metamorphosis into a winged creature.
Direction and video design by Chi-wang Yang. Featuring performance by Mira Kingsley, Darius Manino, & Brian Reid. Animation by Miwa Matreyek. Sound design by Yuen Cheuk Wa. Lighting design by Jeanette Yew.
Created with the generous support of the Trans-Atlantic Consortium and the California Institute of the Arts

Simon Lacey's A Quarter Of A Million Miles - The Thought Of Floating In Space
http://www.aquarterofamillionmiles.com/
Recorded in London December 2012. Solo violin by Jack Liebeck. Also featuring piano, string section, harp, atmospheres and effects. Speech extracts taken from NASA recordings of the Apollo 11 mission.
Simon Lacey was inspired to write the first pieces for A Quarter Of A Million Miles after reading Michael Collins’ book ‘Carrying The Fire’. Collins was the Command Module pilot on the Apollo 11 mission, sometimes described as ‘the forgotten man’, orbiting the moon while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended in the Lunar Module. The American aviator Charles Lindbergh wrote to Collins shortly after their return to earth that his part in the mission was one of ‘greater profundity...you have experienced an aloneness unknown to man before.
Collins' poetic and eloquent account conveys the infinity and beauty of space and tells the story of humans pushing themselves up to (and possibly beyond) what was thought possible. The style and sound of the music is an attempt to evoke this story – melodic classical influences combined with a modern, cinematic production, half of the pieces featuring a classical soprano and the others having a solo violin at the forefront. Real instruments are combined with sound effects, atmospheres, synths and snatches of speech from the Apollo mission to give the pieces a unique flavor.
The first recording sessions for A Quarter Of A Million Miles took place in London in December 2012 with some very exciting and talented collaborators and the album is scheduled to be completed in 2013. The soprano parts are sung by classical chart topper and Classical Brit nominee Natasha Marsh and the violin solos were performed by Jack Liebeck, who was recently featured on the soundtracks to the films Jane Eyre and Anna Karenina and was a Classical Brit winner in 2010 for Young British Classical Performer.

The Lindbergh Story - Full Vintage Documentary
As a 25-year-old U.S. Air Mail pilot, Lindbergh emerged suddenly from virtual obscurity to instantaneous world fame as the result of his Orteig Prize-winning solo non-stop flight on May 20--21, 1927, made from Roosevelt Field[N 1] in Garden City on New York's Long Island to Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, a distance of nearly 3,600 statute miles (5,800 km), in the single-seat, single-engine purpose-built Ryan monoplane Spirit of St. Louis. As a result of this flight Lindbergh was the first person in history to be in New York one day and Paris the next. Lindbergh, a U.S. Army Air Corps Reserve officer, was also awarded the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his historic exploit. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Lindbergh used his fame to promote the development of both commercial aviation and Air Mail services in the United States and the Americas. In March 1932, his infant son, Charles, Jr., was kidnapped and murdered in what was soon dubbed the "Crime of the Century". It was described by journalist H.L. Mencken, as "... the biggest story since the resurrection."[2] The kidnapping eventually led to the Lindbergh family being "driven into voluntary exile" in Europe to which they sailed in secrecy from New York under assumed names in late December 1935 to "seek a safe, secluded residence away from the tremendous public hysteria" in America. The Lindberghs returned to the United States in April 1939. Before the United States formally entered World War II, Lindbergh had been an outspoken advocate of keeping the U.S. out of the world conflict, as had his father, Congressman Charles August Lindbergh, during World War I. Although Lindbergh was a leader in the anti-war America First movement, he nevertheless strongly supported the war effort after Pearl Harbor and flew many combat missions in the Pacific Theater of World War II as a civilian consultant even though President Franklin D. Roosevelt had refused to reinstate his Army Air Corps colonel's commission that he had resigned in April 1941. In his later years, Lindbergh became a prolific prize-winning author, international explorer, inventor, and environmentalist. (from Wikipedia)- published: 06 Dec 2013
