Belgium (i/ˈbɛldʒəm/BEL-jəm), officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a federalstate in Western Europe. It is a founding member of the European Union and hosts the EU's headquarters, and those of several other major international organisations such as NATO. Belgium covers an area of 30,528 square kilometres (11,787 sq mi), and it has a population of about 11 million people. Straddling the cultural boundary between Germanic and Latin Europe, Belgium is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speakers, mostly Flemish (about 60%), and the French-speakers, mostly Walloons (about 40%), plus a small group of German-speakers. Belgium's two largest regions are the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders in the north and the French-speaking southern region of Wallonia. The Brussels-Capital Region, officially bilingual, is a mostly French-speaking enclave within the Flemish Region. A German-speaking Community exists in eastern Wallonia. Belgium's linguistic diversity and related political conflicts are reflected in the political history and a complex system of government.
LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012), known by the stage name Donna Summer, was an Americansinger and songwriter who gained prominence during the disco era of the late 1970s. She had a mezzo-soprano vocal range, and was a five-time Grammy Award winner. Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the United States Billboard chart, and she also charted four number-one singles in the United States within a 13-month period.
Born into a devoutly Christian lower middle class African American family in Boston, Massachusetts, Summer first became involved with singing through church choir groups before joining a number of bands influenced by the Motown Sound. Influenced by the counterculture of the 1960s, she became the front singer of a psychedelic rock band named Crow and moved to New York City. Joining a touring version of the musical Hair, she spent several years living in West Germany, where she married Helmut Sommer, whose surname she adopted as her stage name.
Amy Benic (Mira Sorvino) takes a break from working as an architect at a spa in Pinecrest, a small town outside New York City. Virgil Adamson (Val Kilmer) is a masseur at the spa and gives Amy a massage. Amy breaks down and cries, later falling asleep as Virgil leaves the room. When she wakes up, she runs after him to compliment the massage, only to realize that Virgil is blind. Virgil asks her out, and the two eventually fall in love and begin a relationship.
Virgil lives alone, though his over-protective sister, Jennie (Kelly McGillis), who lives next door, takes care of him. During an intimate session with Amy, Virgil reveals that he went blind when he was three and that the last thing he saw was something fluffy. Amy describes the horizon to Virgil as something that you "can see but can never reach."

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2005 was the third Junior Eurovision Song Contest for young singers aged 8 to 15. On 26 November 2005, the contest was broadcast live from the Ethias Arena in Hasselt, Belgium, in a joint effort by the national broadcasters Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT) and Radio télévision belge de la communauté française (RTBF), in co-operation with the European Broadcasting Union. Belgium won the right to hold the contest over five other countries including Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) of Croatia and AVRO of the Netherlands.[1] Marcel Vanthilt and Maureen Louys hosted the event.
The show was not only broadcast live in the competing countries, it was also available on satellite worldwide and the Australian television channel SBS who acquired the rights to broadcast the show one month later.
As many as twenty countries could have participated in this contest: Cyprus should have taken part but on October 13, Cypriot broadcaster Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) announced their withdrawal after questions arose over the song's origins, with complaints stating that the song they had chosen appeared to be plagiarism. This did not affect their ability to take part in the voting.[2] In addition, Lithuania and Ukraine had planned on entering[3] but later withdrew.[4] Georgia had also wanted to appear but missed the participation deadline for the contest.[5] Interest was also stated by Monaco with Phil Bosco the Head of Delegation for Monaco, telling esctoday.com that "The Minister of State was very interested in the proposal".[6]
The public broadcasters of Switzerland and Poland didn't send candidates for financial reasons.[7] France didn't join because of restructuring within the channel.[8] Russia and Serbia and Montenegro made their debut in the competition this year.
The theme of the show was 'Let's Get Loud', standing for the new generation on the stage.
The show was watched by 8,500 people in the Arena, including the Belgian Prince Laurent and 20-25 million people around Europe.
Belarus was the winner of this edition, with 10-year old Ksenia Sitnik singing her song "My vmeste".

Brussels, being the center of the European Union, is not only the capital of Belgium, but of whole Europe. The mediaval city core and square determine the atmosphere of the whole city. The Grand Palace is surrounded by magnificent baroque buildings, which were once centers of famous guilds. The building of the City Hall is remerkably beautiful. Not far away stands the Menneken Pils, one of the symbols of Brussels. In the elegant passages and on the streets one can find such Belgian rarities as lace, pralines, and beer. The most notable sights in the city are the Parliament and the City Hall, but we must not forget the Museums showing us the w

Indeed, Brussels is a creative, dynamic city. Its compact city centre is clustered with bars, restaurants and museums set along cobbled streets. Inevitably, most tourists head to the Grand-Place. With its ornate Flemish guild

The city of Bruges, Belgium is one of the best preserved Gothic Era cities in Europe. Located near the English Channel it became a major trading center. In the early 1500's Bruges' access to the sea was cut off when the river filled with silt. Trade moved to Antwerp and Bruges went into a kind of time capsule that wasn't opened until the middle of the 20th century when tourists discovered this sleeping beauty. A great city for walking and enjoying chocolate, beer and lace making.

The kind of city hall that a city has says a lot about what kind of city it is.
The city hall of Brussels, Belgium reflects the city's reputation for beauty, history, and culture.
This ornate, Gothic building was originally constructed in the early years of the fifteenth century.
The soaring, airy tower, which is over 300 feet tall, was an added feature that replaced the belfry about fifty years after the initial construction.
The city hall has an asymmetrical design that is the result of differin

In the city of Brugge, Belgium there stands an ancient and imposing tower.
This belfry is quite old and has held an immense importance to the city's citizens.
The beautiful Gothic structure is attached to what was once the grand market hall.
It was built in 1240 and its bells were used to alert the town to news.
The belfry once had a spire, but after three fires and reconstructions, it was lost.
It's a long ascension up the 366 steps to the top, but the panorama atop the tower makes the climb worthwhile.

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the de facto capital of the European Union (EU). It is also the largest urban area in Belgium, comprising 19 municipalities, including the municipality of the City of Brussels, which is the de jure capital of Belgium, in addition to the seat of the French Community of Belgium and of the Flemish Community.
The most important places to visit in Brussels: The Atomium (amongst the world's most fascinating buildings, represents a cell of iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. You can even take a walk inside), Manneken Pis (simply put, a statue of a boy urinating. No one expected a famous Brussels landmark. Often it's adorned with costumes), Royal greenhouses (built all the way back in 1873, it's a massive complex of greenhouse domes and galleries that showcase many rare plants and flowers), Royal Palace (currently the offices of Belgian monarchy, this present structure was constructed in the 19th century), Grand Palace (spend an evening in Europe's most beautiful square. Few other places in the world can match its architectural splendor) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Brussels travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

The most notable sights in the city are the Parliament and the City Hall, but we must not forget the Museums showing us the works of the authors of the Low Countries. Near the triumphal arch stands the famous Atomium, which was the symbol of the 1958 World Fair. We can take memorable trips to Bokrijk cultural village, to the shore os Oostende, the site of the battle of Waterloo, and to the cities of Antwerpen and Gent. And finally to Bruges, a real tourists’ paradise with its red brick buildings.

Bruges is a town in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. Relatively cosmopolitan and bourgeois given its compact size, it is one of the best preserved pre-motorised cities in Europe and offers the kind of charms rarely available elsewhere. Bruges is a postcard perfect stop on any tour of Europe.

Once over the encircling canal and inside the city walls, Bruges closes in around you with street after street of charming historic houses and a canal always nearby. In recent years, the city has turned so much towards tourism the locals sometimes complain they are living in Disney-land. The newly cleaned houses should however not confuse you; they are truly centuries old. And if you can get away from the chocolate-shops, you can visit some more quiet areas s.a. St. Anna, and imagine what life in the late middle ages must have been like.
The Bruges Card provides discounts to most of the major attractions (as well as to performances at the Concertgebouw, and can be picked up at any of the hostels around town. It is available for either 2 or 3 consecutive days. The reduced rate cannot be used in conjunction with a student rate (both student and Bruges card rates are identical) and hence is most useful for older travellers.
It is also possible to buy a combined ticket to see all Musea Brugge museums, which is good value if you intend to visit more than 2.
highlights in Bruges, Belgium
==================
Groeninge Museum, Dijver 12, B-8000, . 7 days 9:30AM-5PM. Known as 'The city museum of Fine Arts', it houses a collection of artworks that span several centuries (14th-20th), focusing mainly on works by painters who lived and worked in Bruges. €8 / €6 (audioguide and ticket Arents House and Forum+ included in the entrance).
Basilica of the Holy Blood (Heilige Bloed Basiliek), Burg 10, [9]. Apr-Sep 9:30AM-11:50AM & 2PM-5:50PM, Oct-Mar 10AM-11:50AM & 2PM-3:50PM. A beautiful church on the Burg square. It houses a relic - a vial of blood that is said to be that of Jesus - and was built in the Gothic style. Try and get there early so you can view the chapel when it is quiet and not filled with tourists. And don't forget to visit the chapel underneath, in heavy Romanesque style - a contrast to the lovely light Gothic above. Free.
Brewery De Halve Maan, Walplein 26, ☎ +31 50 332-697, [10]. Apr-Oct M-Sa 11:00-16:00, Su 11:00-17:00. This brewery annex beer museum offers a tour of the beer making process. A history of the brewery is provided, as well as an overview of the city from its tower. The tour lasts for 45 minutes and is a good way to get a feel for Belgian beer making. The tours start at the exact turn of the hour, be at least fifteen minutes early as there is a maximum amount of people that can join. The entrance price includes one drink of Brugse Zot or Straffe Hendrik and is served after the tour at the outside terrace or indoor bar. €7.00 including 1 beer.
Onze Lieve Vrouwkerk, Mariastraat. A fascinating church with architecture from the Romanesque and Gothic periods. In the east end of the church are very fine tombs of Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary of Burgundy - in contrasting Gothic and Renaissance styles, despite their superficial similarity. The church also houses one of the few Michelangelo sculptures outside of Italy, the "Madonna with child". Currently 2 euro to see the Michelangelo.
Jerusalem church, In a quiet area of the city, a highly unusual church with octagonal tower built by the Adornes brothers, merchants of Italian extraction. It includes a fine black tournai marble tomb, late Gothic stained glass, and a tiny and rather spooky chapel containing an effigy of the dead Christ. The entrance fee also covers the Lace Museum in the former Adornes mansion, where you can see local women and girls learning this traditional craft.
The Begijnhof. Also known as the convent, between the centre of the city and the station, with white painted small houses and fine plane trees, is a quiet place to walk - groups are discouraged. edit

From its breathtaking medieval centre to its 21st-century temple to Surrealism, the new Magritte Museum, Brussels offers the visitor a great deal more than just beer and chocolate and is resoundingly unlike its unfortunate staid image as the home of EU beaurocrats.
Indeed, Brussels is a creative, dynamic city. Its compact city centre is clustered with bars, restaurants and museums set along cobbled streets. Inevitably, most tourists head to the Grand-Place. With its ornate Flemish guild houses, impressive Town Hall and buzzing atmosphere, it would be difficult to find a more beautiful square in the whole of Europe. It deservedly is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the city's crowning jewel. Wander next to the nearby Royal and Sablon districts teeming with art galleries and antique shops. Throw away your map and meander down a myriad side streets,
discovering flea markets, art-deco houses and boutique stores.
Léopold II's Parisian-style boulevards (Belliard and La Loi) are lined with embassies, banks and grand apartment buildings, while Sainte Cathérine, the Art Nouveau district of St-Gilles and Ixelles draw an arty crowd with their eclectic shops and restaurants.
The Bruxellois take pride in their self-effacing, intellectual sense of humour, underpinned by a strong appreciation of the bizarre. The city has a long-running love affair with the Surrealist art movement, pioneered by René Magritte, and with classic comic strips, epitomised by Hergé's boy hero, Tintin. There's a telling irony in the fact that the city's best-known landmark is the Manneken-Pis, a tiny statuette of a urinating boy.
Meanwhile, all of this sits alongside world-class collections of art, fabulous cooking including mussels, frites, waffles and whelks, some of Europe's best and unique beers (literally, there are thousands of varieties), and master-chocolatiers. When it comes to this confectionary, it pays to ignore the well-known brands such as Godiva or Neuhaus, and seek out the stylish boutique of the trendiest 'chocolatier', Pierre Marcolini who cnce a year, creates a limited-edition design.
The city's cultural calendar is packed with events for everyone from the massive, raucous Foire du Midi street fair every July teeming with stalls and fairground attractions to the legendary Christmas Market that takes centre stage in the Place Sainte Catherine with 240 stalls, a skating rink, a big wheel, and numerous rides. One of the biggest events is Art Brussels, showcasing the city's edgier, creative side and a hub for art connoisseurs from around the globe.
If you're a Euro-loving national, check out the European Quarter, centered around Schuman and the Berlaymont. Its liveliest part is the Place du Luxembourg: all its bars fill up around 6pm on week days with some of the 20,000 diplomats, politicians and civil servants who reside in the city after Brussels became the centre of international political following WWII.
Easily accessible by train from other major European cities, Brussels is also the gateway for day trips to Amsterdam, Ghent, Luxembourg, Antwerp and Bruges, among others, making it a fabulous two-centre destination.

Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of parks and architecture in Belgium and helps you explore the history and beauty
of many attractions such as The Arch of Triumph, The Parc du Cinquantenaireand the famous four museums it hosts today.
The entire northern section of the park is occupied by the palace of the nation as the parliament is called here. The building was designed by French architect Barnabay Giumar. It was finished in 1783 but exactly to the date, 100 years later, it was almost completely destroyed in a fire. The renovated neoclassic palace is where the plenary sessions of the two chambers of the Belgian parliament, the chamber of representatives and the senate are held. The relief on the façade was created by Gilabert Goushal and is entitled the reward of the good and the punishment of evil.
The arch of triumph and the Parc de Cinquantenaire were commissioned by the order of King Leopold II to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the independence of Belgium thus the former unused marsh area of the city was put to use. Eventually by the stipulated deadline, only the park and two exhibition halls were completed where the 1880 art and industrial fair was held. The originally planned arch of triumph was built 50 years later. The designs for the gates of the city were inspired by the Triomphe d'arc in Paris with a four horse carriages and symbolic figures on top and the national press below them. For a period of time, the huge hall stood there empty but later, they were used as a venue for horse races and occasional exhibitions. The area got a new surge of life towards the end of the 20th century. That was when the art nouveau pavilion of architect Victor Otto was opened. The great halls became home to four museums. The Musees royaux d'Art et d'Histoire is mainly dedicated to artifacts of ancient civilizations but it also has a section on industrial design. The Musees de l'Armee is an exhibition of war history and includes an aircraft collection, the Musees royaux del'Armee et Histoire Militaire. The name of the fourth exhibition is Otto World which is probably the best museum in the world on the subject.
Two quarters of Brussels are occupied by the buildings of the European Union. The Quartier European is where the council of ministers and public officers work while the parliament quarter is the in Quartier Leopold. The permanent seat of the European parliament is in Strasberg while the administrative center is located in Luxembourg. But the committee sessions are held in Brussels. The locals call the huge super modern steel frame glass structure, the Caprice des duex which means the whims of the gods. The name also refers to a French cheese packed in an oval container and to the haughtiness of the parliament as well. Many Brusselians are still angry because the charming Leopold section of the city was almost completely swept away to be replaced by the headquarters of the EU. The circle named after Robert Schuman EU politician is an important traffic hub. There's still a little bit of the air lingering of the former Leopold quarter here. The many small pubs in the area are mainly frequented by the officials of the union but are also favorites among tourists.

Take a tour of Brussels City Hall in Brussels, Belgium -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The city hall has an asymmetrical design that is the result of differing stages of construction of the building.
Brussels' mayor still has his office here, following several renovation projects in the 20th century.

Brugge, Belgium Travel Guide - Visiting the Belfry in Brugge
Take a tour of Belfry of Brugge in Brugge, Belgium -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

Belgium Travel Guide http://bit.ly/1b1GSXS
Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Waterloo in Belgium. The battle of Waterloo was a defining event for Napoleon
and all Europe. That was where the world conquering French army was defeated by the troops of the Duke of Wellington. Napoleon resigned and was exiled to the island of St. Helen afterwards.
The battle of waterloo was a defining event for Napoleon and all Europe. That was where the world conquering French army was defeated by the troops of the Duke of Wellington. Napoleon resigned and was exiled to the island of St. Helen afterwards. Of course, everything in the previously unknown Belgian village is all about the battle and two opposing generals. The Butte du Lion is a 40m high artificial hill raised at the place where the Duke of Orange, one of the generals of Wellington was wounded. 226 stairs lead up to the statue of a lion on top of the hill. Cycloramas first became popular in the 19th century. The 110m long panoramic painting of Louis de Moulins depicting the battle of waterloo was finished in 1912 and was placed in a gallery specifically made to accommodate it. 3km from waterloo, there's a wax museum where the heroes of the battle come alive in the form of wax figures and paintings. Even the farm where Napoleon spent the day before the battle is dedicated to his memory.
The inn where Wellington stayed the night prior to the battle was turned into a museum. The Eglise St. Joseph Chapel is right across the street. The small St. Joseph church was originally a royal cahpel. Today, it's a monument dedicated to the casualties of the battle. It was significantly large, in order to provide ample room for the memorial plaques of the fallen soldiers. The majority of these tablets were made from the donations of soldiers paying tribute to the memory of their commanders. The battle took place on the 18th of June. Each year, there's an anniversary show acted out by enthusiasts of war history dressed in period costumes who reenact the events of the day. The war gaming table set up in the museum is ground for heated debates. The battle may also be replayed as a board game or a computer game. These are also available at the gift shops that are a constant feature everywhere including waterloo as well.

The Netherlands (Dutch: Nederland, also commonly, but incorrectly, called Holland in English) is a European country, bordering Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and France in the Caribbean as the Dutch territory Sint Maarten borders French territory Saint-Martin. The people, language, and culture of the Netherlands are referred to as "Dutch".
With over 16 million people on an area of just 41,543km², it's a densely populated country with its gorgeous capital Amsterdam being just one of many interesting cities. Once a great naval power, this small nation boasts a wealth of cultural heritage and is famous for its painters, windmills, clogs and notoriously flat lands. A modern European country today, it preserved its highly international character and is known for its liberal mentality. As a founding member of EU and NATO, and host to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, the Netherlands is at the heart of international cooperation. Its small size, welcoming attitude to travellers and many sights make it a unique and fairly easy to discover destination and a great addition to any European trip.
=====================
Belgium (Dutch: België, French: Belgique, German: Belgien) is a low-lying country on the North Sea coast in the Benelux. With the majority of West European capitals within 1,000km of the Belgian capital of Brussels, and as a member of the long-standing international Benelux community, Belgium sits at the crossroads of Western Europe. Its immediate neighbours are France to the southwest, Luxembourg to the southeast, Germany to the east and the Netherlands to the north.
Understand
Belgium is a densely populated country trying to balance the conflicting demands of urbanization, transport and industry with commercial and intensive agriculture. It imports large quantities of raw materials and exports a large volume of manufactured goods, mostly to other EU countries.

Every year since 2005, I hold this "Best of National Finals" contest. After I have watched every single National Final for the Eurovision Song Contest and rank most songs (I include internally selected entries, basically every song that tried to get to the Eurovision Song Contest and was legit to do so) I take the 30 best songs in my opinion and send them in mp3 to my non-esc fans friends so they can select, by themselves, their 15 favorite. That way we get a contest with good songs made of songs people who arent esc-fans could enjoy too. I make a draw of the 15 finalists, and then send them back to my friends this time with the live videos a

I make a draw of the 15 finalists, and then send them back to my friends this time with the live videos and they vote for in esc-style so we get a ranking of the best of the season!
Right now, I'm uploading the 15 entries for BoNF 2015. The nineth entry is from Belgium, "Rhythm inside" by Loïc Nottet (Loïc Nottet, Luuk Cox & Shameboy / Beverly Jo Scott). Enjoy!

Junior Eurovision 2005 Belgium

=====================
==================
Also known as the convent, between the centre of the city and the station, with white painted small houses and fine plane trees, is a quiet place to walk - groups are discouraged. edit
The Hospital of St John, [12]. 09:30 - 17:00, Closed Mondays. Sint-Janshospitaal contains a museum of six paintings by Hans Memling, within the early medieval hospital buildings. €6 with Bruges card / €8.
Choco-Story Museum, Wijnzakstraat 2 (Sint-Jansplein), ☎ 050/61.22.37, [13]. 10AM-5PM. This museum, on several floors of a period house, describes chocolate's transition from cocoa into chocolate. It is run by the Belgian chocolate manufacturer Belcolade. Stay for the chocolate making exhibition to get some excellent samples. €6 with Bruges card / €7.

Bruges, Belgium in HD - Time To Travel
The city of Bruges, Belgium is one of the best preserved Gothic Era cities in Europe. Located near the English Channel it became a major trading center. In the early 1500's Bruges' access to the sea was cut off when the river filled with silt. Trade moved to Antwerp and Bruges went into a kind of time capsule that wasn't opened until the middle of the 20th century when tourists discovered this sleeping beauty. A great city for walking and enjoying chocolate, beer and lace making.

Enjoy!
