The Caribbean sea and snow make Santa Marta a difficult place to forget. The city is located on the shores of the Bay of Santa Marta on the Caribbean Sea, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, whose peaks can be seen on clear days from the beach. The capital of the department of Magdalena, which was founded in 1525, is one of the oldest cities in South America.

Near the birthplace of Gabriel García Márquez, the father of magical realism, Santa Marta’s beach captivates with activities and culture, among other options. Santa Marta is South America's oldest surviving city and the second most important colonial city on Colombia's Caribbean coast.
It's always been a convenient base to explore the outstanding nearby attractions, including Ciudad Perdida and Parque Nacional Natural (PNN) Tayrona, but a complete overhaul of Parque de los Novios (also known as Parque Santander) and the pedestrianization of a number of neighboring streets has given the city some desperately needed public space. Evenings here are now filled with friends meeting, drinking and enjoying some of the area's great new restaurants.
Santa Marta attracts throngs of holidaymaking Colombians in search of the simple pleasures of rum, fun and sun. It's packed with revelers on weekends, sucking down snow cones, burying themselves in sand, and gathering along the rocky piers for glistening sunsets. The climate is hot, but the heat here is drier than Cartagena, and the evening sea breeze cools the city and makes it pleasant to wander about.

Lynne Marta (born October 30, 1946) is an American actress.
Marta was born in Somerville, New Jersey. Her first screen credit was in 1966 in an episode of the comedy series Gidget.
Marta's career has largely been as a guest player on episodic television, and she has often made multiple appearances on the same series as different characters (including The F.B.I., Cannon, Medical Center, The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, Trapper John, M.D., and Vega$). During the mid-late 1970s, she appeared (as different characters) in three separate episodes of Starsky & Hutch. During this period, she was involved in an open relationship with actor David Soul, one of the stars of the series. The pair had worked together some years earlier in a 1972 episode of the legal drama Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law.
Marta has also appeared in episodes of ER, Caroline in the City, Designing Women, Gunsmoke, Matt Houston, Law & Order, Charlie's Angels, The Rockford Files, Kojak, Marcus Welby, M.D., and The Rookies. She has also appeared in the daytime soap operas Passions, The Young and the Restless, and Days of our Lives.

The Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta is the stage for surreal sunrises where the line of the horizon is so hazy that observers cannot tell whether they are sailing on the skies or gliding on the water. Taganga, on the contrary, is famous for its sunsets, which can be watched from any of its many beach kiosks while enjoying a meal or a snack. The profuse biodiversity of the region is an object of study by scientists from all over the world, who come to this mysterious land to visit its incredible national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
The Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino is the house where Simon Bolívar passed away in 1830. It was declared a sanctuary of the fatherland by the national government, and is home to the Museo Bolivariano, which holds many of the Liberator's personal belongings. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where native species proliferate.
