This Campaign roughly follows the Battle 360° Documentary - "The USS Enterprise One aircraft carrier saw every major battle in the Pacific during World War II. This floating city was there from the Doolittle Raid to Iwo Jima. Earning 20 battle stars and the distinction of being the most decorated ship of WWII, the USS Enterprise was instrumental in American battle success." CHAPTER ONE \tFollowing the attack on Pearl Harbor the US Navy was without it's battleline. Fearing a Japanese invasion of the Hawaiian Islands, the Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet (CINCPAC) Admiral Kimmel ordered the carrier Enterprise to patrol a defensive area around the Hawaiian islands. The Army and Navy prepared for an invasion which never came. Admiral Kimmel was relieved of command. \t The incoming CINCPAC Admiral Nimitz recognized that the morale of the fleet and the country was dangerously low. Under pressure from Washington DC to do anything to get back at the enemy, Nimitz issued new orders to the fleet. \tHe dispatched Admiral Halsey aboard the carrier Enterprise along with the carrier Yorktown and their supporting vessels to raid enemy bases and attack shipping in the central Pacific. \tBecause of the extended target list Halsey found it necessary to split his force. Yorktown along with her escorts would attack Jaluit , Mili and Makin in the Marshall Islands. Halsey picked the more difficult targets of Kwajalein, Maloelap and Wotje for Enterprise. Early Raids Part 1 1 February 1942 Upon arriving in the target area, Admiral Halsey again split his forces. He ordered the heavy cruisers USS Salt Lake City and USS Northampton along with a destroyer and 6 fighters as cover to bombard the enemy bases in and around Kwajelain. Expecting little enemy resistance at Roi, Admiral Halsey sent his remaining cruiser USS Chester in-shore to bombard the enemy island while aircraft from Air Group 6 hit the airfield.
