The best kept secret of Nollywood actor Muna Obiekwe who passed away secretly at a specialist hospital in Festac Lagos, Sunday January 18th, 2015 has been exposed. This was made known by his godmother and fellow actress Vera Kanu (pictured below). In an exclusive chat with icampus, Vera Kanu said Muna Obiekwe in his lifetime was a chain smoker and an alcoholic. She said his addiction contributed to his kidney damage. Vera said Muna lost his parents a while ago in a fatal car accident and since then he has been using alcohol and smoke to console himself. In the process, Muna reportedly consulted a doctor who suggested that he should do at least 20 kidney dialyses to re-energize his kidney. He was then told to avoid alcohol.. Vera said that the actor didn’t quit drinking until the time of his death. Vera continued: “I was with him to the last hour. He was to do up to 20 dialyses; the doctor said if the dialysis improved his condition, the worse would certainly be over. He will be okay only if he stays away from alcohol but you know our artiste,” she concluded.“the dialysis was expensive for Muna. He was doing two in a week sometimes. And he would need blood injection on each occasion. Each appointment was costing him between N250, 000 to N300, 000; money he did not really have to spend. His health was eating deep into his purse yet Muna refused to go cap in hand begging for alms. He was a private guy who didn’t want the press or his colleagues to feast on his pain. “He was managing it on his own. As a matter of fact, he has been managing it for a while until Ejiro Okurame and I came on board to help. We were combining resources to help him but there was very little we could do to save him. We had to enlist the help of Patience Ozokwor and Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK) at a point. They rendered the help they could until he died. Vera Kanu says Muna Obiekwe Lived A Very Private Life “The guy was private. He kept to himself a lot and most importantly, kept his private life private; for instance, many people did not even know he was married with two children. Such was his life. He didn’t want press or his colleagues to start prying. He was particularly afraid of the press, hence his shutting his colleagues out of his pain. He knew if some Nollywood people got to know about it, the press would also get to know. He refused to beg to save Nollywood’s image, he in-turn, lost himself.” “Everybody in the industry knows Muna drinks a lot; even when he’s shooting in the North, he has a way of finding alcohol. He fell into it, after he lost his parents in a ghastly motor accident. ‘As a matter of fact, he was supposed to be in that car with them but by stroke of luck, he wasn’t and was spared. Afterwards, Muna took solace in liquor but that never affected his job. He was just like Sam Loco; he could drink the whole sea but when he hears the director shout ‘action,’ he gets into character. Muna was a method character despite his flaws’’ ------------------------------------------------------------- C O P Y R I G H T D I S C L A I M E R ------------------------------------------------------------- "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Why do Nollywood stars forget their comrades in times of need? We all witnessed the death of Chris Nkulor, Sam Loco, Enebeli Elebuwa, and Justus Esiri. These were all gallant warriors of the movie industry who laid a strong foundation through their acting, for which most of the current leaders in the industry are reaping the benefits of their hard work. But they were left to suffer in pain and never got any quality help from the Actors Guild. How so Shameful! Peter Bunor Junior also suffered a lot when he fell sick a couple of years ago and came out to directly point hands at his colleagues for abandoning him: “Let me tell you the truth. After I had this stroke, I did not know how I was looking. That is why I am not happy with this so-called people you call my colleagues.” The same was the story of Ngozi Nwosu who suffered a great deal from illness before she eventually got help and had medical care. So why does successive leaders of the Actors Guild keep a blind eye to this very important issue? The health care of their own colleagues? The most painful incidence that rocked the industry was the sudden death of Muna Obiekwe. He was so young and it’s inexcusable that nothing was done to help him until the likes of Mama G and Kanayo O Kanayo offered financial help. To have not helped him when he need it the most, their moral and financial support, is a big shame to all of them. ------------------------------------------------------------- C O P Y R I G H T D I S C L A I M E R ------------------------------------------------------------- "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Funeral Rites of Nollywood Actor Muna Obiekwe at Umudioka in Anambra State, Nigeria. May His soul continue to rest in peace, Adieu Shinning Star.
We regret to announce that Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe, has passed away. The actor died today, January 18, 2015, as a result of kidney problems. He was undoubtedly one of the most talented actors of his generation. Some of his movies are He Lives in Me, My Best Enemy, Men in Love, Blackberry Babes, Eye of the Gods, and The King Must Die. May his soul rest in peace.
There are so many people who don't believe Muna Obiekwe is gone. I understand your reservations. He was a young, vibrant, talented guy whose illness we all didn't even know about. So his death is hard to take. Unfortunately it's true. Here's a pic of him on a dialysis machine, prior to his death. And a pic of him when he arrived at the hospital this afternoon is circulating on Twitter. He collapsed at home and they rushed him to the hospital where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival
Nollywood actors, Uche Jumbo, Mike Ezuruonye, Stella Damasus and more have confirmed the death of the talented Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe. Muna passed away after battling with Kidney disease. The Internet has been abuzz following the reports of his death which surfaced online earlier today, Sunday, January 19, 2015. Some of his colleagues took to social media platforms to confirm and mourn the death of their colleague. Check out some tweets and Instagram posts. Stella Damasus: Just confirmed it from some close friends and relatives that he is really dead. The message from twitter that he was still alive was from a fake account. So this is my pain, how do you know what to believe and what not to believe? Where do we draw the line? Over nine thousand people on twitter have believed that he is still alive because of the fake twitter account. REST IN PEACE BRO! I was really hoping that it was a rumor. God rest your soul. This is too painful. Whoever put that message out not the fake twitter account should be careful. Don't play games with people's lives like that.
Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh is one of the people who were quite close with late Muna Obiekwe and it looks like she’s still having a bit of difficulty grasping his sad death. She shared a touching tribute today on her Instagram page: Just sitting here gazing at a picture of a boy I know but now gone because of an illness that would have been managed. The thought of his lifeless body brings me so much pain and sadness and it is not because I was close to him nor that I cared so much about him but just a mere reflection of how wicked the world is, the extent we go just to hide our pain to avoid being a laughing stock, Gossip item, abused, bullied on social medias and even betrayed by some trusted friends & even our so called Families* Oh yes that is the awful world we live in, We develop thick skin because we re betrayed almost everyday by people we love and trust so now we try to go through the difficult and trying times alone without sharing with anyone or letting them know what we’re going through. Be a Neighbor and a friend that really cares, try and be trustworthy in this wicked and heartless world. I know that there are some good people out there, where re they? We all can’t be evil na, let’s show others hope, love and reason to live again, a tree can’t make a forest, we need each other in one way or the other. HE WAS A SHINING STAR AND THUS YOU WILL THINK HE WILL HAVE TRUE FRIENDS OR A TRUE FRIEND TO LEAN ON AT DIFFICULT TIMES. It’s quite sad that I can’t trust anyone with my pain and anytime I wake up I think about death, I think about the freedom and peace that comes when i am gone from the world of hate, betrayal, deceit, Greed, Jealous, anger, Revenge.. I can only wish there is life after death, life that will be void of bad things we have experienced in this current life….May the soul of Muna and the souls we have lost so far Rest in perfect peace.. Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe died on Sunday, January 18, 2015. The actor who lived a very private life, rarely granted interviews. The actor had his last interview on March 23, 2014 with Vanguard Newspaper. The actor had the interview to clear the air on his viral nude set photos with Biola Ige. Prior to the interview, Muna told the interviewer that he didn't grant interviews, and also challenged her to bring any interview he had granted before. Read their conversation below; Are you aware there is an x-rated picture of you and Biola Ige all over the internet, both of you partially naked, with you, sucking her boobs? I was made aware of it. I don’t remember the movie. I also don’t remember sucking Biola’s breasts. If the movie exists, that scene never took place. The film is ‘Pregnant Hawkers’ and were you and Biola Ige involved in any sensual scene where you were both nude, making love, real and unreal? Like I told you, I don’t recall the movie. I do a lot of movies and I can’t remember what happens in all of them. The fact that I don’t recall means that the movie was shot a long time ago. Probably three or more years back. when love scene was in vogue with producers. I’m still searching for the movie to acquaint myself with the story.

Sun Star 2015-03-20Muna may refer to:
Lipstick on a thermos cup,
Lust and whiskey fill it up
And smoke blows from the chimney to the moon.
It's much too cold in the Midwest -
Chilly hands cup chilly breasts.
Things not said fill up every room.
As he stands there in the door,
There's no room for him anymore.
She lies there saying,
"Honey take one last look."
I'll tell it all in my new book.
Above the city 300 feet,
A derelict in a penthouse suite
Packs his suitcase for the midnight train.
The rich girl could not face her dream.
He's bitter coffee, she's sweet cream.
She pulls on her shirt, outside it rains.
And later in the rambling dark,
He'll unwrap her broken heart
And smile the weary smile of the crook.
I'll tell it all in my new book.
Coyote sleeps with everyone,
But in the morning he's long gone
And it turns out that he was a she.
Tales grow tall around the fire.
Where there's no truth, no one's a liar.
Whatever mask you wear is who you'll be.
There is a hole in the day
Through which we make our gateway -
I make mine every time I'm shook.
I'll tell it all in my new book.
We sift through culture run amok
But our rhythm is still boom-boom-chuck.
The whole world to us is now a theme park.
The tourist takes the traveler's place,
Buys a new body, a new face.
A hymn is not a hymn sung with no heart.
And I turn to the Man of Woe
And ask him where there's left to go -
He points down with his shepherd's crook.
I'll tell it all in my new book.
When they lead you to the wood,
Remember that you always should
Leave a trail of black-eyed peas behind
So I can find my way to you,
Whatever you may get into -
You are the one I always long to find,
And when this crazy time is gone,
We'll build a home down by a pond.
I'd make you a good mate - I love to cook.
I'll tell it all in my new book.
On old Cape Cod, it blows a gale.
I'll be Jonah. You be the whale.
I want to dive as deep as we can go.
Your ship is sailing for the dark,
Leave your suitcase, take my heart -
Hold me, stow me, love me very slow.
Why must this hour come to pass?
I look at you and raise my glass.
Our kisses cannot stop the scythe, the hook.
I'll tell it all in my new book.
I heard a young man sing a song,
Just that one, and he was gone
Off on the journey we all used to make.
It was a song like rain and wind,
Reminded me of where I'd been,
And that wild feeling I can't seem to shake.
I'd like to go into some shack
And wait for that kid to come back
And sing until the walls and windows shook
And tell it all in my new book.
The soldiers meet between the fights
To drink and gamble half the night
While waiting for the fresh troops to arrive.
The battlements will always stand,
According to the ancient plan,
Not a one of us gets out alive.
And as we huddled in the smoke,
I began to get the joke.
I laughed and kissed you
While the whole world shook.
I got the right to change my mind
So give to me
My hearrt and my liberty
You sold the dream and I was blind
You staged your plan
I fell for a lover's scam
Right from the start you took love fun passion
While I did all of the giving...
I want my money back
The sale is over
You keep you lifetime guarantee
Give me my moneyback
Let's call it closure
Cause what you got don't work for me
I can't believe I took so long
To work it out
Your game and what you're about
I paid the price for being so wrong
So heavily
From all that you got from me
My broken heart was just one more days work
It's what you do for a living...
I want my money back
The sale is over
You keep you lifetime guarantee
Give me my moneyback
Let's call it closure
Cause what you got don't work for me
Nah no, nah no, no-no, no-no-no...
I'll pick me up, I'll dust me off and I will start anew
Tomorrow I'll be moving on...
Without you...
I'm running to my future, but before I do
I need one last thing from you...
I want my money back
The sale is over
You keep you lifetime guarantee
Give me my moneyback
Let's call it closure
[Chorus]
Gotta bag full a money
Bag bag full a cash
I'm on give it to da bank
Day ain't even gotta ask
Gotta bag full a money
Bag bag full a cash
{Verse 1}
I walked up in the bank
They all know me
Always got money
Every time that I leave
Got money everywhere
Got money up my sleeve
Got money all over
From my head to my feet
Everytime I walk
Money's all I talk
I got more green
Than a f*ckin beanstalk
I got so much money
I take a bath in it
When it comes to money b*tch
I'm in it to win it
B*tch I make money
Just walkin down the road
I got so much money
It gets hard to even tote
So now what I do
With the money that I make
Is put it in a bag
And walk out of the bank
[Chorus]
{Verse 2}
Hit me up with a bag full a money for I go
I got so much money up in the bank you don't even know
Normally by now I would be rappin fast as Ceelo
With my rhymes comin so fast it's hard to even hear the flow
But I decided to take it a little slower for this verse
Losin my life or my money b*tch I don't know which is worse
I just make money talkin I don't even need to work
Got all these hoes on me cause where there's money they tend to lurk
Got more presidents in my wallet than in history books
Got money all over me so everyone of yall will look
I got so much money now this is the most I've ever had
I walk up in the bank and come out with a full bag
[Chorus]
{Verse 3}
This is that sh*t that attracts all the hoes
So say this sh*t as your walkin down the f*ckin road
But while you say it b*tch you need to walk real slow
And get that money in your bag and show em what you f*ckin hold
This is the high-rollers anthem that all the playas know
So say this sh*t as you're walkin down the f*ckin road:
"I get dat money"
"I get dat green"
"I get dat skrilla b*tch, know what I mean?"
"I get dat money"
"I get dat green"
"I get dat skrilla b*tch, know what I mean?"
Now that you've said it, take all the money that you have
Put it in a sack and go out and show off yo money bag
If you feel like you lost yourself
I will show you the way
If you feel like you lost your soul a long time ago
It's just a slow spin down to old dogtown
The black and white police
Are everywhere it seems
But I'm invisible
And they won't bother me
No they won't bother me
If you feel like you lost yourself
I will show you the way
If you feel like you lost your soul a long time ago
It's just a slow spin down to old dogtown
The mad cats and stray dogs
Come out the back alleys
But I'm invisible
They won't bother me
I'm ridding on my moonbike
I'm alive
I'm riding on my moonbike
But the road is so icy icy
The road is so foggy foggy
The road is so icy icy icy
If you feel like you lost yourself
I will show you the way
If you feel like you lost your soul a long time ago
It's just a slow spin down to old dogtown
Slow spin down to old dogtown
