How SSRIs and MAO Inhibitors Work
From www.thepsychfiles.com Depression and other mental health problems are often treated with medications which are called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors. How do they work? I'll show you in this brief video.

Serotonin
Serotonin or 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter, biochemically derived from tryptophan, that is primarily found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, platelets, and central nervous system (CNS) of humans and animals. It is a well-known contributor to feelings of well-being. -- en.wikipedia.org --- Created with PyMOL and GIMP

е. ринит).

FEEL THE XTC TECHNO TRANCE
The nucleus accumbens is the most important brain part responsible for stimulation, happiness and euphoria. Euphoria results via a very high balanced 5-HT(serotonin) activity started at mesolimbic pathway and connect to the prefrontal cortex and activate from there much brain areas particularly increase their activity excessive. Afterwards the serotonin pathway connecting next to both side cortex areas and and slowly losing serotonin activity because serotonin pathway is way too much away from the mesolimbic pathway that fires and inhibits 5-HT energy until it ends after activating the brain almost to 100 % via releasing monoamines and inhibits them until monoamine oxidase cleaves the neurotransmitter what terminates the serotonin pathway after main effects are subside or an dopamine reuptake inhibtor was taken which kills the main effects of MDMA cause the brain stop receiving serotonin activity because dopamine and specially norepinephrine's turn your body into survival mode what ignore's serotonin activity because it isn't helpful for the moment. After the serotonin pathway disappears it increases rapidly the stimulation of the mesolimbic pathway via dopamine and norepinephrine activity, also DA/NA were no longer blocked from the colossal serotonin activity and MDMA itselfs induces dopamine, and norepinephrine release, and can act directly on a number of receptors what turns you on an different effect. The higher the dose of MDMA, the higher the [5-HT(serotonin);α2 ...

Antidepressants Compared
Clip thanks to www.medstores.net Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of antidepressants considered the current standard of drug treatment. A possible cause of depression is an inadequate amount of serotonin, a chemical used in the brain to transmit signals between neurons. SSRIs are said to work by preventing the reuptake of serotonin (also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT) by the presynaptic neuron, thus maintaining higher levels of 5-HT in the synapse. Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are a newer form of antidepressant that work on both norepinephrine and 5-HT. They typically have similar side effects to the SSRIs, though there may be a withdrawal syndrome on discontinuation that may necessitate dosage tapering. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) may be used if other antidepressant medications are ineffective. MAOIs work by blocking the enzyme monoamine oxidase which breaks down the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). Because there are potentially fatal interactions between this class of medication and certain foods (particularly those containing tyramine), as well as certain drugs, classic MAOIs are rarely prescribed anymore. However, this does not apply to Emsam, the transdermal patch form of selegiline, which due to its bypassing of the stomach has a lesser propensity to induce such events.[32] MAOIs can be as effective as tricyclic antidepressants, although they are generally ...

New biological explanation for sadness in early postpartum
Dr. Jeffrey Meyer, Canada Research Chair in Neurochemistry of Depression, CAMH and U of T, talks about how greater levels of a brain protein called monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) may explain why postpartum blues and clinical depression are so common after childbirth. Dr. Meyer is the principal investigator for the study, called Elevated Brain Monoamine Oxidase A Binding in the Early Postpartum Period, published in May 2010 in the Archives of General Psychiatry.
