Powerful Typhoon Usagi passes through Luzon Strait - Update 4 (9/21/13)
Stay up to date at http://www.force-13.com/stormtracking/wpacific.html#wp2 Typhoon Usagi remains a ferocious Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 150mph, gusting to 185mph, as it passes through the Luzon Strait, over the Batanes Islands. The storm is expected to continue west-northwest, and the threat to the Philippines is likely to subside from here on in. The threat to Taiwan remains, and the threat to China, Hong Kong and Macau is growing. The storm is currently predicted to make landfall along the coast of China, near Hong Kong, as at least a strong Category 1 typhoon, before weakening inland. There is also a chance that the storm will re-emerge over the sea near the coast of Hainan and regenerate/reintensify.- published: 20 Sep 2013

To its north across the Luzon Strait lies Taiwan. West across the South China Sea sits Vietnam. The Sulu Sea to the southwest lies between the country and the island of Borneo, and to the south the Celebes Sea separates it from other islands of Indonesia. It is bounded on the east by the Philippine Sea. Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and its tropical climate make the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons but have also endowed the country with natural resources and made it a megadiverse country. The Philippines is the 73rd largest independent nation, covering almost 300,000 square kilometers (115,831 sq mi) and an archipelago comprising 7,107 islands, and is categorized broadly into three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Its capital city is Manila. With a population of more than 98 million people,[6] the Philippines is the seventh most populated Asian country and the 12th most populated country in the world. An additional 12 million Filipinos live overseas. Multiple ethnicities and cultures are found throughout the islands. In prehistoric times, Negritos were some of the archipelago's earliest inhabitants. They were followed by successive waves of Austronesian peoples who brought with them influences from Malay, Hindu, and Islamic societies. Thus, establishing various nations either ruled by Datus, Rajahs, Sultans or Lakans. Trade and subsequent Chinese settlement also introduced Chinese cultural elements which remain to this day. The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 marked the beginning of an era of Spanish interest and eventual colonization. In 1543, Spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos named the archipelago Las Islas Filipinas in honor of Philip II of Spain. The Spanish Empire began to settle with the arrival of Miguel López de Legazpi from New Spain (present day-Mexico) in 1565 who established the first Spanish settlement in the archipelago, which remained a Spanish colony for more than 300 years. During this time, Manila became the Asian hub of the Manila--Acapulco galleon fleet. As the 19th century gave way to the 20th, there followed in quick succession the Philippine Revolution, which spawned the short-lived First Philippine Republic; the Spanish--American War; and the Philippine--American War. In the aftermath, the United States emerged as the dominant power; aside from the period of Japanese occupation, the United States retained sovereignty over the islands. After World War II, the Treaty of Manila established the Philippine Republic as an independent nation. Since then, the Philippines has had an often tumultuous experience with democracy, with popular "people power" movements overthrowing a dictatorship in one instance but also underlining the institutional weaknesses of its constitutional republic in others.- published: 02 Sep 2013

Super Typhoon Usagi, Category 5 - Update 3 (9/20/13)
Stay up to date at http://www.force-13.com/stormtracking/wpacific.html#wp2 Typhoon Usagi (Philippine name Odette) has strengthened to become the first Category 5 storm of the year. Usagi is a very powerful and dangerous storm, and is currently barrelling towards the Luzon Strait with sustained winds of 160mph and gusts of up to 195mph. The storm is likely to pass between the Philippines and Taiwan as a Category 4 storm, passing closest to the latter. Warnings are already in effect in parts of Luzon. After passing Taiwan, the storm is expected to move close to or over the coast of China, possibly near Hong Kong, as a major typhoon. The whole southern Chinese coast should be prepared for typhoon conditions, as should Taiwan and Luzon.- published: 19 Sep 2013

Super Typhoon Usagi / Odette Video Forecast
Typhoon Usagi has rapidly intensified today to become a monster of a storm with winds gusting up to 170kts or 314kph. Usagi is expected to intensify slightly more through Friday before starting to interact with the Taiwan Coastline and Northern Luzon. The friction from both of these landmasses will weaken Usagi slightly but the center of circulation at this time is expected to remain over open water. That will allow the Storm to maintain its strong Typhoon intensity as it passes through the Luzon strait and in to the South China Sea.- published: 19 Sep 2013

Animation courtesy of the researchers.Think, Share, Subscribe for more A number of Islamic miracle sites report that verse 24:40 of the Quran accurately details the previously unknown knowledge of underwater waves and the darkness within the sea. As we quickly notice, the verse itself makes it clear that the verse (about underwater waves) is not referring to an underwater event and infact explains a clearly observable and constant event, available for all to see, above the seas surface. In the second claim (The darkness of the sea) We notice that the entirety of the argument is based, not on the verse, but the idea that no one prior to the Quran was aware that there was darkness in the sea. We quickly find that the idea presented in the Quran was already being detailed in writings 100s of years earlier, but do we consider that to be miraculous? No, because such knowledge (even with the assumption about what the verse is actually referring to) had been well known to anyone who sailed or even spent any amount of time under water. We then see that (Whether relevant or not, depending on the acceptance of the muslims assertion) that Pearl diving was a common economic foundation of the entire region. Super typhoon Usagi may strike Hong Kong.
The strongest storm of the year thus far is headed toward Taiwan and eventually Hong Kong.Hong Kong was on Friday preparing to be battered by Super Typhoon Usagi at the weekend as the city's Observatory predicted an almost direct hit. A warning issued late on Thursday stated the storm, which last night intensified to a super typhoon as it crossed the South China Sea, will on Sunday "pose a threat to Hong Kong". "By that time the weather will deteriorate significantly, with high winds and rough seas," the Observatory said. "If you are planning to travel out of Hong Kong or having other activities, please be reminded that changes in the weather may affect your plans." The storm was centred about 730 kilometres northeast of Manila at 5am today, and was forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at around kilometres per hour in the general direction of the Luzon Strait. An Observatory spokesman said: "By and large typhoons that pass the Luzon Strait have relatively big impact on Guangdong coastal areas. It was now hard to estimate whether Usagi would hit Hong Kong head-on, he said, because the typhoon remains distant from the city. "A slight change of its direction can have a considerable difference in terms of its impact on Hong Kong," the spokesman explained. Taiwanese authorities urged residents on southern parts of the island to carry out precautionary measures as Usagi approaches. China's state news agency Xinhua reported a "yellow alert" had been issued as the storm approaches the country. The Beijing National Metoerological Center issued a yellow alert - the third highest of China's four-tier warning system.- published: 20 Sep 2013

Typhoon to hit Chinese coast
Typhoon to hit Chinese coast
The year's most powerful typhoon slammed into southern China, forcing hundreds of flight cancellations, shutting down shipping and putting a nuclear power plant on alert after pummeling parts of the Philippines and Taiwan. Typhoon Usagi veered away from Hong Kong at the last minute before striking the mainland northeast of the former British colony. Usagi — Japanese for rabbit — was classified as a severe typhoon and had sustained winds of 175 kilometers (109 miles) per hour, with gusts of up to 213 kph (132 mph), when it hit land Sunday evening. The storm had been a super typhoon on Saturday when it passed through the Luzon Strait separating the Philippines and Taiwan, a path likely sparing both places from the most destructive winds near its eye. In the Philippines, Usagi left at least two people dead and two others missing, while in Taiwan nine people were hurt by falling trees. The typhoon landed near the city of Shanwei in the Chinese province of Guangdong, about 140 kilometers (87 miles) northeast of Hong Kong, and was moving west-northwest at 22 kph (14 mph), the Hong Kong Observatory said late Sunday. Ferry services between Hong Kong and nearby Macau and outlying islands were suspended as the observatory reported winds as strong as 68 kph (42 mph) and warned that a storm surge and heavy rains could cause flooding in low-lying areas. Police in Shanwei ordered more than 8,000 fishing boats to return to port and more than 1,200 residents were taken to temporary shelters, China's official Xinhua news agency reported. The typhoon wreaked havoc on airport schedules in Hong Kong, nearby Macau and mainland China, upsetting travel plans for many passengers who were returning home at the end of the three-day mid-autumn festival long weekend. Hong Kong International Airport said 370 arriving and departing flights were canceled and another 64 delayed. Two of Hong Kong's biggest airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair, canceled flights to and from the city's airport starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, with plans to resume operations Monday if conditions permit. RAW VISION: Typhoon Usagi is approaching Hong Kong with a category three warning which is expected to elevate to a category eight.
