Elite: Dangerous Alpha phase 2.0
With Alpha phase 2.0 out (to Alpha backers), David Braben and Michael Brookes executive producer for Elite: Dangerous introduces some of the game mechanics present in the multiplayer experience. Elite: Dangerous is the latest installment of the seminal Elite gaming franchise and has garnered huge support from over 40,000 fans of Elite who have supported development of the game so far with both funding and feedback. There will be two further major Alpha releases to roll out before Elite: Dangerous reaches Premium Beta stage. Alpha Phase 2.0 - Multiplayer provides backers the opportunity to play against each other in four distinct multiplayer scenarios: • Free-for-all melee • Pick your side in a two-team melee • Co-operative defense of a crippled Federal battlecruiser • A more sophisticated 'Pirates and Bounty Hunters' mode which hints at the fluid choices and roles players will experience on a much greater scale in the final game. Credits can be earned in each scenario and used to purchase new ship loadouts. Frontier's Elite: Dangerous Alpha program has been created to engage with the game's Alpha backers, enabling the team to respond to feedback, add features and balance the game to make it the best it can possibly be. The Alpha program can be joined now via the Elite: Dangerous online store at http://elite.frontier.co.uk- published: 05 Feb 2014

Star Trek Phase 2: "Kitumba" - Episode 4x08
Originally a two-part story draft for the Star Trek: Phase II TV series in 1977, it was rewritten into a one-part episode for this production. A good deal of the episode takes place on Qo'nos, the Klingon homeworld: which was shot on location at Fort Ticonderoga, New York, and at a local restaurant. Members of the International Klingon Federation helped out with the location shoots. Released: 12/31/2013- published: 01 Jan 2014

Try the IQ250: http://www.phaseone.com/demo Download Capture One: http://www.phaseone.com/download "My first day shooting with the IQ250 was one of the craziest days I've ever had as a photographer. On paper the idea was pretty simple: Mount the camera to a helicopter and capture pictures of mountain biking like people had never seen it before. But even though we planned for days and days, things didn't work out as we expected. I knew from the beginning that it wouldn't be easy but I'm always pushing myself to capture images that are truly unique. We planned everything great. We had two of the world's best mountain bikers, Kyle Strait and Tyler "T-Mac" McCaul. They showed up early and they were stoked to ride. There is just something about shooting with professional athletes that is hard to describe but it really pushes me as a photographer. We got off to a fast start and things were looking amazing. I was just getting in the groove but then the worst happened. Tyler went down hard. Everyone was really worried. Do we need to go to the hospital? Should we call an ambulance? You just don't know. Really what T-Mac needed was just a few moments to get his wits about him and he was good to keep on riding. At that point it was about midday. We had gotten the camera all balanced and ready to fly but that is when the next challenge hit us. On the very first pass the behind the scenes team clipped a branch and crashed the helicopter right into a tree. I'm an optimist but things were not looking good. And to make matters worse, it started to rain hard. At that point I thought we were done for the day but I looked over and Kyle and T-Mac were psyched. We have come all this way, let's figure out a way to get this done. So we're in a full on rainstorm right now. The helicopter did not like the wind, it did not like the rain and we have moved on to plan B which is a ladder. The sun is setting, the rain is pouring down and we are throwing mud all over the place trying to get this ladder dug into the hillside. And then Kyle and T-Mac start throwing massive tail whips off this jump and they are coming within inches of me. It's getting dark so I'm having to turn up the ISO on my camera. I'm looking down and I just can't believe how incredible these images are looking. These weren't the images I had pictured in my head at the start of the day but because of the rain and the weather, they are better. And that was my crazy wet and wild first day with the IQ250." Try the IQ250: http://www.phaseone.com/demo Download Capture One: http://www.phaseone.com/download "The first time I shot a wedding with the IQ250, it was a wedding I'll never forget. This wedding was held in a place called Kangaroo Valley in Australia. We arrived to a day that was thumping down rain, a deafening scream of cicadas, completely covered by flies. This is just within three seconds of getting out of the car. I still get uneasy when there are lots of things working against you and the pressure is on you to put your money where your mouth is. That is when I get tested. Absolutely. That is when I get nervous. Well, we had a fly plague, we had rain, we had power outage, we had a schedule running behind time so a very short photo shoot. I think trusting your instinct is really important. You'll make it happen, you just need to go with your gut and make decisions quickly. The bride and groom relaxed a little bit. We got to the ceremony and they got married. It didn't rain. It was pretty testing but I think we nailed it. It is those ones that throw curve balls at you that keep me on my toes and do make me a little nervous at the time. They made for great photos, though. I think what I love about shooting medium format digital is the change in mindset to slow things down a little bit. It lets you think, it gives you a ridiculously good image. For me it is a perfect way to capture a frame." Dan O'Day is based out of Canberra, Australia, but works across the world as a wedding and portrait photographer. Try Phase One: http://www.phaseone.com/demo Download Capture One: http://www.phaseone.com/download "My name is Tim Kemple and I'm a photographer from Salt Lake City. I followed the traditional route to becoming a full time photographer. I started out shooting editorial for small magazines and slowly that led to getting assignments and actually getting budgets to go out on shoots. Before I knew it I was getting hired to fly around the world and shoot pictures in Nepal or South America. Places that I never would have dreamt that my job could take me to. There are nights that I go to bed and I have a picture I would want to create. It could be something as simple as a portrait of somebody I know or it could be something as crazy as flying a camera around on the bottom of a helicopter. For whatever reason I lay in bed at night and I think about creating these photographs that people will remember. I get asked all the time how do you become a professional photographer. The most important thing that I tell people is that you need to shoot things you are passionate about. That passion could be portraits, people, it could be travel, it could be sports, it really doesn't matter but shoot something you love. I love capturing images that people have never seen before. In order to do that we hang over waterfalls, we hang out on the side of a giant cliff, we fly around in helicopters, we do everything we can think of to try and create a unique image. Clients appreciate the amount of work we do on the front end before a shoot. We get the best athletes, we get the best location, we do our homework. Being able to travel to these places, and not just be a visitor but often become part of the community whether it is skiers or climbers or mountain bikers, whatever it is. It's a really fun way to see the world. You are having fun and you are doing stupid stuff and that is how memories are made." The tracks draw upon ideas going back to various points over the last 12 years or so - some of the hooks I wrote years ago other bits are brand new. In some ways I wanted it to reflect a personal arc and the way I tend to do things - never rushed" 'Frames of Reference' is the some 12 years in the making debut album from UK based techno producer Ø [Phase]. Best known by his work on the Belgium based Token Records his style ranges from gritty minimal techno to Detroit influenced material. His debut 'Module Overload' was released on London's Lost/Cosmic records in 2000 and was followed by a string of productions for London's Surface/Inceptive Records and Ben Sims Ingoma imprint. The move to Token came in 2007, he shortly after began DJing professionally and has since performed at parties across the globe whilst becoming a regular guest at Berlin's techno Mecca, Berghain performing alongside esteemed peers and supporters such as Marcel Dettmann, Len Faki and Ben Klock. His continued works have seen constant support throughout the techno world and have featured in CD mixes by Robert Hood, Dave Clarke, François Kevorkian and Fumiya Tanaka amongst others. Alongside his production work Ø [Phase] is also a mastering engineer and on/off artwork designer. Starting out at London's prestigious Sony Music/Whitfield Street Studios, he has cut records for numerous underground dance acts as well as working on projects for mainstream artists. Now after a string of acclaimed releases on Token and a selection of remixes for the likes of Robert Hood, Mark Broom and Peter Van Hoesen comes Ø [Phase]'s debut long-player 'Frames of Reference'. Opening with the brooding and building swirl of 'Binary Opposition (Process 3)' Ø [Phase] sets out his template of evolving, richly textured atmospheres underpinned by shards of dark and light. 'The Bwiti Initiate' revolves around a bouncing techno rhythm that could most certainly traverse the house/techno divide whilst 'Distracted' and 'Misaligned' are the kind of unadulterated, pummeling, cavernous techno tracks that have made Lost such a party institution. Then we have tracks like the soft beating 'Just Another Dance' providing a lighter edge, embellished with warmth and strings and the thick, densely woven tapestry of 'Shadow Caster' which goes from experimental to dancefloor and back again with consummate ease. The off-kilter lilt of 'Perplexed' drags us further into the dark before keys and a hint of a melody draw us back upwards for air whilst the fat driving bass of 'Dirtro II' and funkier edged menace of 'On The Edge' show a virtuoso producer at the top of his game. The closing introspection of 'Self Deceit' wallows in subtle nuances before a mid section synth and string intervention pulls us back from the brink before finally descending into the void.
