Al-Nusra Front And Other Rebel Groups Attacks Aleppo Central Prison | Syrian Civil War
An alliance of Syrian rebels including Al-Nusra Front, Ahrar Al-Sham, Army of the Muhajireen announced the battle to attack the Aleppo Central Prison in Syria. Syrian rebels claimed to have seized part of a major prison facility outside the country's commercial capital of Aleppo and freed some prisoners amid intense clashes. The Syrian sources cite otherwise and have shown that they are still in full control of the prison. A source inside the prison told As-Safir that the attack on the prison was the heaviest so far but that the prison didn't fall. The source said that the prison was attacked from three sides. It began when a truck laden with more than 20 tons of explosives and driven by a suicide bomber who tried to approach the prison. Prison security men saw the truck coming and hit it with RPG rounds. The truck exploded about a hundred meters from the prison's door. "The intensity of the blast destroyed the headquarters of the prison protection unit, killing two officers and wounding 10 unit members," the source said. The source added, "After the truck explosion, there was a violent attack by three tanks that targeted the first and second prison towers with about 15 shells, killing five prisoners and injuring 10. In conjunction with the tank attack, attackers opened fire with heavy machine guns at the prison from six different points, leading to severe damage to the prison building." After about two hours from the start of battle, which began at about 10 a.m., gunmen managed to get close to the prison entrance, where violent clashes took place. The source explained, "Afterward, warplanes intervened and targeted the rear lines of the attackers while prison security elements repelled the attack from the inside, which put the [attackers] in a pincer, where violent clashes took place and lasted till 4 p.m. Afterward, the attackers pulled back from all axes and the attack stopped." Various outlets including the video show the the killing of Saifullah al-Chichani, who led the unit that stormed the prison. The number of dead and wounded among the attackers is not yet accurately known because the attackers failed to declare the full results of the attack. Another leader in the Aleppo prison battle was Muslim al-Chichani, the emir of Junud al-Sham, which consists entirely of Chechens and is based in the north Latakia countryside. Muslim al-Chichani is considered one of the most prominent military minds among the leaders of the Islamist brigades and factions due to his previous experience in both Afghanistan and the Caucasus. Saifullah al-Chichani, whose real name is Rislan Mashalikashvili, fought in Chechnya, where he was injured. He left Chechnya for treatment but could not return. He thought of going to Iraq but didn't find a way to do that. So he went to Afghanistan in 2005, where he fought US forces and stayed in the Kabylie region for a while. When the Syrian crisis started, he decided to go to Syria and contribute to the establishment of an Islamic caliphate. In Syria, he led the Army of the Caliphate, which consisted of about 500 Chechen fighters. At the end of 2013, Saifullah pledged allegiance to Jabhat al-Nusra and declared that he and all his fighters and weapons were joining. He participated in many battles in Syria, the most important of which was the battle to control the Aleppo neighborhood of Sheikh Said and the battle of al-Kindi hospital. It is noteworthy that Saifullah was a close friend of Dokka Umarov, the emir of the Caucasus emirate. FSA In Heavy Clashes As The Syrian Army Still Advances Towards Aleppo
France and Saudi Arabia have agreed to give more weapons to the militants operating in Syria. French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Monday, "Our approach to the situation is identical." He made the comment after holding talks with Saudi officials in the city of Jeddah. The French defense minister said Paris and Riyadh will support the so-called Syrian National Coalition and the Free Syrian Army "on the military level, as well as the humanitarian and political levels." Syrian military forces have reopened a key road linking the central heartland with the embattled northern province of Aleppo, following heavy clashes with militants. They took control of the road on Sunday night after engaging in a fierce battle with the militants. The route had been closed since August because of heavy fighting in the area. The development comes a week after army troops captured the strategic town of Khanaser near the road and flushed out insurgents in several surrounding villages. The Syrian army has made advances near the flashpoint city of Aleppo in the north of the country. On Tuesday, fierce fighting continued between militants and the Syrian soldiers in the region. The Syrian army also secured five villages in the south of the city. The Syrian soldiers' achievement led to the transfer of the first shipment of food and aid to Aleppo. "The clashes are still ongoing... Despite all the difficulties, we are pressing day and night until we meet our objectives," said a Syrian soldier.- published: 09 Oct 2013

Syrian Civil War 2014 - Islamic Front In Heavy Clashes In Aleppo's Southern Countryside |Syria War
Syrian Civil War 2014 - Islamic Front In Heavy Clashes In Aleppo's Southern Countryside |Syria War. Heavy Fighting, Firefights and Clashes between the Islamic Front and government troops supportet by shia hizbollah militias are still going on on a daily basis in Aleppo's Southern Countryside. Fierce battles have taken place between Syrian Army and the Islamic battalions around al-Nairab airport in Aleppo countryside, as a result, the Syrian Army claims to have managed to advance and regain control on al-Hneifeh area. As a result he Aleppo International Airport was targeted by the Islamic Front with Grad Rockets. The Islamic Front itself claims to have made major advances to break the siege of Aleppo´s Marjah district by regaining full control over the villages of Al Aziza and Sheik Lutfi by clearing it from shia hizbollah presence that is using a new type of probably iranian reconnaissance drones. This drones can bee seen in the video around the 1:57 minute mark. There are also reports of Syrian Air Force Helicopters dropping barrel bombs on rebel held areas. The Islamic Front started to use captured regime howitzers to shoot down these helicopters as you can see around 6:06 even if this tactic inst particularly promising. During their assault in Aziza the Islamic Front managed to bomb a builing inwich Shiite militias where stationed. The builing was totaly destroyed and many causalitys on the Shiite militia site where reported. The Attack was mainly held out by former members of the Ahrar ash-Sham Brigade and the so called Army of the Mujahideen but more islamic movements where involved in the fight. The Islamic Front is a merger of seven rebel groups involved in the Syrian civil war that was announced on 22 November 2013. With about 40.000 - 60.000 fighters the Islamic Front is one of the most strongest rebel fraction in the Syrian Civil War 2014. Since 2014 there haven been also reports of fierce clashes between the Islamic Front and members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant in the same area around Aleppo's Southern Countryside so all in all the situation on the frontline isnt clear and it is hard to tell who is dominating the battlefield at this time because as said before the fighting goes on on a daily basis and the situation can change every hour. GRAPHIC FOOTAGE: Amateur video shows aftermath of barrel bombs in Aleppo
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/1bmWO8h Amateur footage has been released showing the devastating aftermath of barrel bombs in the district of Hanano in Aleppo. Residents can be seen going through destruction and rubble, pulling out the body of at least one dead child. Barrel bombs, usually dropped from helicopters, are a particularly indiscriminate weapon that often kill dozens at a time. Activists say they are being used to push people from rebel-held areas into state-controlled parts of the northern city. Like many parts of Syria, Aleppo is divided between rebel and Assad forces in a stalemate that has lasted over a year, killing hundreds with little change in the balance of power. A second video appears to show a nearby street with market stalls and a red bus acting as a makeshift barrier. The footage, which was obtained from a social media website, has not been independently verified. Report by Lauren Hood. ᴴᴰFSA Rebels Defending District From Advancing Syrian Army In Battle Of Aleppo
FSA rebels and Syrian Army Forces are locked into a brutal battle for control of Aleppo. Aleppo is a city divided into factions. Each group occupies a neighbourhood: rebel fighters, regime forces, Kurds, Islamists, foreign fighters, Sunni locals and so on. Fighting in Aleppo governorate began on 10 February 2011. Over the next five months, major clashes left large parts of the rural countryside under rebel control, while the provincial capital, Aleppo city, remained firmly under government control. On 19 July, rebel forces stormed the city and the battle began. On 21 September 2013, rebels seized control of several villages south of Aleppo in an offensive aimed at cutting the supply lines of Pro Assad forces from Damascus. On 3 October 2013, Syria's army took back control of a strategic town Khanaser of Aleppo in the northern province of Aleppo on Thursday after a weeks-long battle pitting troops against rebels, a monitoring group said. Several days later, the supply line to Aleppo was reopened as army troops advanced in the villages around Khanaser. Commuting is back to normal on a strategic road in Syria that has just been retaken from militants fighting against the Syrian government. The road links the central city of Hama with the flashpoint city of Aleppo in the north. It hosted the first convoy of over 20 trucks carrying fuel supplies to Aleppo on Wednesday. The route had been closed since August because of heavy fighting between the army and various militants. The army took control of the road on Sunday night after engaging in a fierce battle with the militants. This came on the heels of several recent advances by the army against the militants in the north. Since mid 2012, the government forces have been fighting with the various militants to take control of Aleppo, Syria's largest city and the country's former commercial hub. According to opposition sources Hezbollah also is engaged in the battle of Aleppo, this comes despite the Israeli intelligence which claims that most Hezbollah fighters returned to Lebanon. Israeli media say that some 1,500 members of Hezbollah resistance movement have left Syria. Israeli website Debkafile said in a report on Monday that 1,500 Hezbollah forces left Syria last month and 3,500 others are about to return to Lebanon. The report also said the return of Lebanon's resistance movement's forces shows that the government of President Bashar al-Assad's power to fight militants has improved.- published: 10 Oct 2013
