Earth, Parallels and Meridians, Latitude and Longitude [IGEO TV ]
Earth, Parallels and Meridians, Latitude and Longitude [IGEO TV ]
http://igeo.tv/ Both, meridians and parallels, form the geographic coordinate system based on latitude and longitude Meridians are the terrestrial geoid highs semicircles passing through the poles, imaginary lines used to determine the microseconds. By extension, are also the maximum semicircles passing through the poles of any reference sphere or spheroid. All observers located on the same meridian are at the same time, in the lighted half of Earth, the Sun at the top of its course when the Sun is at the top of the course indicating noon. By resolution, adopted at an international conference held in 1884 in Washington, and sponsored by then President of the United States, attended by delegates from 25 countries, the "reference meridian ", from which lengths are measured , i.e. , which is considered the "longitude 0 °", is the Greenwich meridian, so called because it passes through the ancient observatory in Greenwich. Circle formed by the intersection of land area with an imaginary plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the Earth is called parallel. On the parallels, and from the Greenwich meridian, meridian that is taken as origin, measure the length, the circle is expressed in degrees, which may be East or West, depending on the direction of measurement of the same. Unlike meridians, parallels are not as great circles, except Equator, do not contain the center of the Earth. The angle ( with vertex at the center of the Earth ) on any plane parallel and meridian for the equator is called latitude and is the same for all points of the parallel , which discriminates between North and South latitude, according to hemisphere. There are five main striking parallels or corresponding to a particular position of the Earth in its orbit around the sun, and therefore receives a particular name: -Arctic Circle (latitude 66 ° 33 ' N = 90 º - 23 º 27'). -Tropic of Cancer (latitude 23 ° 27 ' N). It further north latitude at which the sun reaches its zenith. This occurs at the June solstice. - Equator (latitude 0 °). In Equator the Sun culminates at the zenith on the equinox of spring and autumn. - Tropic of Capricorn (latitude 23 ° 27 ' S). Is the parallel further south where the sun reaches the zenith. This occurs at the December solstice. - Antarctic Circle (latitude 66 ° 33 ' S). Watch Video 3D Earth Globe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrf-BB6cipM- published: 25 Sep 2013

Walking on country with spirits, Wugal Wugal, Australia
Located on the eastern shore of Australia’s tropical north, Shipton’s Flat is home to Marilyn, a Kuku Nyungkal Aboriginal woman, and her family.
She has been living here the ancestral way – far removed from the services and conveniences of modern life – as part of the sublime performance of nature.
Like her ancestors before her, Marilyn walks through the Nyungkal bubu, the Nyungkal’s country, acknowledging and conversing with the Spirit beings around her.

*About this Project*
Collaboratively made with Indigenous storytellers, these videobriefs are told in local languages, respect Intellectual Property rights and provide storytellers with media training, resources and a fair media engagement model for future projects. The final videos played alongside other international climate change videos at a locally coordinated forum event, in April 2009’s Indigenous Peoples Climate Change Summit and later at a special screening at the National Museum of Denmark during the Copenhagen COP15 meeting.

Key outputs include research activities, policy studies, capacity development and online learning and dissemination.
Marilyn Wallace
Marilyn Wallace, a land conservation coordinator from New Queensland, Australia and a member of the Kuku Nyungkal clan, said she and her band were given a new beginning after being granted autonomy over their homelands. She urged the official delegates to take the time to "stop, look, listen and learn". Wallace and 14 other forest rangers manage their homelands in collaboration with Australian resource officials. The team is in the process of conducting a biological inventory of their range, incorporating traditional knowledge with cutting edge GIS digital mapping systems. "We are preserving the wisdom of the elders with modern technology," she said, a reminder that native people are not just victims of climate change but key players in the protection and preservation of ecosystems.

Going to the Heart of Sustainability: An Indigenous Wisdomkeeper's Perspective with Ilarion Merculieff
Indigenous peoples who have intimate and sustained contact with their lands and waters and who have maintained the spiritual basis for relating to everything in their environment have a profound understanding of what "sustainability" really means even though that is not the word that they would use. Western concepts of sustainability generally are used out of meaningful context, limiting the depth to which we can go collectively and as a society in restoring harmony in our relationship with Mother Earth. Indigenous elders world-wide say that one day the world will look to indigenous peoples for the wisdom in caring for our Earth Mother, and many feel the time is NOW as her life supporting systems are being pushed to the edge of viability.
Ilarion Merculieff is a traditional Aleut messenger dedicated to sharing Indigenous elder wisdom and the messages of Indigenous spiritual leaders with the world. He has nearly four decades of experience serving his people, the Aleuts of the Pribilof Islands and other Indigenous Peoples, in a number of capacities, locally to internationally. Larry is a passionate advocate for Indigenous rights/wisdom, and harmonious relationship with the Earth.
Close to Merculieff's heart are issues related to cultural and community wellness, traditional ways of living, Elder wisdom, and the environment. Having had a traditional upbringing, Merculieff has been, and continues to be, a strong voice advocating the meaningful application of traditional knowledge and wisdom obtained from Elders in Alaska and throughout the world when dealing with modern day challenges. As the Coordinator for the Bering Sea Council of Elders, Merculieff works with some of the most revered Elders from seven regions throughout Alaska focusing on the health of the Bering Sea ecosystem and the viability and health of the coastal and river cultures dependent on it. Merculieff has shared Elder wisdom locally, nationally, and internationally, and his writings and interviews have appeared in such publications as the Winds of Change, YES, Red Ink, Alaska Geographic, Smithsonian, National Geographic, and Kindred Spirits. Larry Merculieff was featured in National Wildlife magazine as an "American Hero", having called national and international attention to industrialized overfishing and major adverse changes in the Bering Sea ecosystem.
