Minister of Labour is typically a cabinet-level position with portfolio responsibility for setting national labour standards, labour dispute mechanisms and employment.

Mallikarjun Kharge, (born 21 July 1942) is an Indian politician and currently the Union Minister of Labour and Employment of the Republic of India. He is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Gulbarga constituency of Karnataka and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party.

He is a senior Karnataka politician and was the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly prior to contesting the 2009 General Elections. Prior to that he was the President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee during the 2008 Karnataka State Assembly Elections.

He has won elections for a record 10 consecutive times having won the Assembly elections for an unprecedented 9 consecutive times (1972, 1979, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2008) and the recent 2009 General Elections from Gulbarga. Kharge is considered a competent leader with a clean public image and well versed in the dynamics of politics, legislation and administration.

Mallikarjun Kharge was born in Warwatti, Karnataka to Mapanna Kharge and Sabavva. He finished his schooling from Nutan Vidyalaya in Gulbarga and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Government College, Gulbarga and his Law degree from the Seth Shankarlal Lahoti Law College in Gulbarga. He started his legal practise as a junior in Justice Shivraj Patil's office and fought cases for labour unions early in his legal career.

Yasir Naqvi MPP (born 1973) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2007 provincial election, representing the riding of Ottawa Centre. He is also the President of the Ontario Liberal Party.

Naqvi was born and raised in Pakistan and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1988 at the age of 15. Naqvi is a graduate of McMaster University and the University of Ottawa Law School. He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2001 and began practicing law at Flavell Kubrick LLP, specializing in international trade law and eventually becoming a partner. He continued his practice with Lang Michener LLP after that firm merged with Flavell Kubrick LLP in 2005. He left Lang Michener in 2007 to join the Centre for Trade Policy and Law at Carleton University.

The Ottawa Citizen named Naqvi as one of its "People to Watch in 2010", with a profile in the January 9, 2010 Saturday Observer headlined "Yasir Naqvi, he's a firecracker.Ottawa Life magazine also included him in its Tenth Annual "Top 50 People in the Capital" list for 2010. In a September 2011 column, Adam Radwanski of The Globe and Mail called Naqvi " possibly the hardest-working constituency MPP in the province."

Sejamothopo "Sej" Motau (born 20 June 1941) is a politician, journalist, communications and corporate affairs expert, and a former Fulbright Scholar. He is currently South Africa's Shadow Minister of Energy, and a Member of Parliament for the opposition Democratic Alliance.

Motau is a former journalist with the Pretoria News and The Star, and holds undergraduate and honours degrees from the University of South Africa, and a Master's degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.

Motau has worked as divisional manager of corporate affairs at Mercedes-Benz South Africa, and as head of corporate affairs at Transnet and Sasol. He worked as an independent communications consultant prior to joining the Democratic Alliance.

Sej was born in Lady Selborne, Pretoria, on 18 July 1943. He started his working career as a book-keeper with the City Council of Pretoria in Atteridgeville, his current constituency.

A Fulbright scholar. Sej holds a Master of Journalism degree from the University of California, Berkeley; a BA (Hons) degree in communication and a BA degree in communication and psychology from the University of South Africa.

Kevin Grant Hague (born 18 March 1960) is a current New Zealand MP representing the Green Party who was first elected to parliament in 2008.

As of 2009^[update] he is the Green Party spokesperson on Health and Wellbeing, Commerce, Small Business, Tourism, Biosecurity & Customs, Cycling & Active Transport, Sport & Recreation, Rainbow Issues, and Rural Affairs; and associate spokesperson on Community Economic Development, Gambling, and Community & Voluntary Sector.

Prior to his election he was the Chief Executive of the West Coast District Health Board. He is also an author, long time gay rights activist and a former executive director of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation.

Hague has been an activist for a number of causes. In the 1980s he was heavily involved in the campaign against sporting contacts with apartheid South Africa. In 1989 he co-authored Honouring the Treaty: an introduction for Pakeha to the Treaty of Waitangi. Hague is openly gay and in 1988 began work as a research officer for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation, which provides education on HIV/AIDS issues and advocacy and support for those with HIV and AIDS. From 1998 to 2003 he was the Foundation's executive director. He has represented New Zealand at United Nations, UNESCO and Commonwealth conferences on apartheid and on AIDS. He has also campaigned on behalf of mountain bikers.
