Gunmen from Islamist group Boko Haram stormed a boarding school in Nigeria overnight and killed 29 pupils, police and the military said on Tuesday. Some of the students bodies were burned to ashes, Police Commissioner Sanusi Rufai said of the attack on the Federal Government college of Buni Yadi, a secondary school in Yobe state in the country\'s northeast. A similar attack in June in the village of Mamudo left 22 students dead. The failure of the military to protect civilians is fuelling anger in the northeast, the region worst affected by the four- and-a-half-year-old insurgency.

The United States is moving to drastically cut the size of its military... to pre-World War Two levels.
The Pentagon said Monday it would retire Cold War-era aircraft, reduce the defense budget and downsize active-duty army forces next year from 5-hundred-20-thousand soldiers to around 4-hundred-fifty-thousand.
That would be the lowest level since 1940.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said an army of the current size is unnecessary, as the U.S. shifts its focus from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to the Asia-Pacific region.
Before going into effect, the plan needs to be approved by Congress.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed into law the controversial bill that will see homosexuals jailed for life, despite international pressure, against the bill. The Ugandan anti-gay bill cruised through parliament in December after its architects agreed to drop an extremely controversial death penalty clause. The bill states that repeat homosexuals should be jailed for life, outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays, measures that U.S. President Barack Obama dismissed, terming them backward

PRESIDENT ON THE RUN: Ukrainian Government Issues Arrest Warrant for President Yanukovych
1:07
Three years ago, an uprising against the Assad regime turned into what looked like a straightforward civil war between Syrian government forces and rebels. However, over time, what had started as a largely secular opposition movement began to take on more of a radical Islamist tone, with two al Qaeda offshoots -- the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra -- becoming the dominant forces on the ground across the rebel-held North.

One VICE filmmaker managed to secure unprecedented access to both al-Qaeda factions battling Syria\'s government forces, despite the risk of journalists being kidnapped. This is a remarkable portrait of the foreign volunteers and local Syrians willing to fight and die to establish a new caliphate on Europe\'s doorstep.

Mohammed Morsi trial begins in Egypt. The former leader and his 35 allies, who are also considered guilty, arrived in Cairo. According to media reports, the new lawyer will represent the interests of Morsi at this hearing, since previous one refused to conduct a case. It should be reminded that Mohammed Morsi and his allies are accused of organizing mass escape of his supporters from Egyptian prisons in 2011. It is assumed that the escape entailed violence and numerous murders of law enforcement officers. In addition, the former president is accused of killing dozens of demonstrators, preparing terrorist attacks and espionage. If he is found guilty, he may face the death penalty.

Some of the students bodies were burned to ashes, Police Commissioner Sanusi Rufai said of the attack on the Federal Government college of Buni Yadi, a secondary school in Yobe state in the country's northeast.

One VICE filmmaker managed to secure unprecedented access to both al-Qaeda factions battling Syria's government forces, despite the risk of journalists being kidnapped. This is a remarkable portrait of the foreign volunteers and local Syrians willing to fight and die to establish a new caliphate on Europe's doorstep.
