Stonehenge, England's most mysterious ancient monument, on a site older than the Pyramids of Ancient Egypt. 85 massive stones, some weighing more than 40 tonnes, stand guard on a remote and wind-swept plain. Why is it here, what is it for, how was it built? The answers are lost in the mists of time. Myth links Stonehenge to England's mysterious druids, Celtic priests said to have practiced ritual sacrifice. What we do know is that some of the rocks at Stonehenge were transported more than 200 miles across the waters of England's widest tidal estuary. The History of Stonehenge for Kids: Stonehenge for Children - FreeSchool
Stonehenge is an ancient stone circle in England north of Salisbury. Believed to be between 4,000 and 5,000 years old (making it older than the pyramids of Giza!) Stonehenge has puzzled visitors for thousands of years. Because no written record exists to tell us about its purpose or construction, what we know about it has been pieced together by archaeologists.

Yine!

Note: A previous version of this video referred imprecisely to "Neolithic Britain" when discussing the Newgrange tomb in Ireland. We have removed that phrasing. My apologies to the Irish.
Stonehenge is a popular destination for summer solstice celebrations because the 5,000-year-old monument points toward the summer solstice sunrise on the horizon. However, it also points to the winter solstice sunset in the opposite direction and there's good reason to believe that this may have been the more important alignment for the Neolithic people who built Stonehenge.
We investigate by constructing a tiny model of the Stonehenge monument.

Stonehenge | New Science, More Speculation, The Story Continues | Julian Richards
Join us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/megalithomania. Recent scientific advances in archaeology are having a considerable impact on our understanding of who built Stonehenge. How it was built and, perhaps more importantly, why are less easy to answer. This talk will examine the new evidence from ancient DNA and isotopic analysis as well as the practicalities of moving stones and large timbers.
Julian is an archaeologist who has been involved with research on Stonehenge and its landscape for over 35 years. The author of the current Stonehenge guide book (and the ‘Pop Up Stonehenge’) he may be familiar as the presenter of BBC’s ‘Meet the Ancestors’. His exhibition ‘Wish you were here’ is was on display at the Stonehenge Visitor Centre and he is planning Britain’s biggest stone moving ...

Naked Science demonstrates how these stones could have been carried such a vast distance, and raised into place, using just the primitive technology possessed by Ancient Britons almost 5000 years ago. And, for the first time, the film employs modern forensic investigation techniques to examine human skeletons found near the site and recreates the face of one man who may have worked on the construction of this astonishing, ancient structure.

His exhibition ‘Wish you were here’ is was on display at the Stonehenge Visitor Centre and he is planning Britain’s biggest stone moving experiment in the near future.
Filmed at the Megalithomania Conference in May 2019 in Glastonbury, UK.
