Down On the Farm
We had a lot of fun building and using our raised-bed gardens! A lot of sweat and learning, too. We planted zucchini and four kinds of tomatoes (all VERY successful), four kinds of peppers and two of cucumbers (most fairly successful), eggplant, strawberries and corn (all good but only a few fruit), asparagus (won't bear fruit until next year), and carrots (too soon to tell as of 9/1/10).
We planted the zucchini squash next to the arched trellis because Kay thought it would grow up the wire. Next year we will plant morning glory flowers or some such.
This movie is made from time-lapse sequences shot primarily on a Nikon D200 DSLR. The exceptions are the growth section which used an old 3megapixel Pentax point n shoot (it could be left outside w/o worrying about it), and the video section of the sod cutter which was done on a Sony Webbie camcorder. Assembled using iMovie '09. Music is from the copyright-free iLife library that comes with the Mac.

Crookneck Squash
Time lapse film of squash growing in Phoenix, AZ. 55 days to harvest.
I am a fourth generation farmer whose land and life are quickly being overcome by suburbia. Because of the encroachment I was inspired to create ‘lifecycles’ to collect and share the images from the most important daily process of agriculture, the growth of our produce. Using timelapse photography, I have begun the process of filming everything I grow, and inviting other farmers to do the same. The arranged short films show a single production cycle of each plant/tree. Ambient noises are taken from the farm and plants while growing, and the accompanying music is composed by musicians inspired by the footage. I invite you to watch your food grow, and better understand what an effort these plants undertake to make it to the marketplace and later to your tables. Thanks for your time, and I hope you enjoy watching them grow as much as I have.

La Gata Gorda on Homeopathy
Experimental documentary about the positive effects of Homeopathy on vegetable crops. Addressing the alternative and more effective ways of treating sick plants in a holistic manner that will take the environment into consideration including the health of us humans as we ingest the vegetable crops.
Homeopathy provides for a more effective way to treat people, animals and plants without the damaging effects of current medicinal methods (air and soil pollution, in the case of plants). In addition, we can see how the COSTS of treating crops with homeopathic methods reduce considerably, let alone the damaging effects of petrochemicals and artificial fertilizers.
I trekked to San Marcos, Nicaragua to Liz & Silvio's farm, located about 2,200 ft or 670 meters above sea level where they grow coffee, and a have a vegetable garden.
Liz and Silvio are green heroes - they use alternative methods of energy, i.e. solar panels, draw water from a well with a bicycle pump, use compost and distill their gray water.
On this occasion we ventured to unite forces and do a little HOMEOPATHIC PROVING with some of their vegetable crops, namely tomatoes and squash.
The results were marvelous and speak for themselves!
