WQGN-FM
WQGN-FM (105.5 FM, "Q105") is a radio station broadcasting a Top 40 (CHR) format. Licensed to the city of Groton, Connecticut, it serves the New London, Connecticut metropolitan area. The station is currently owned by Cumulus Media.
Citadel Broadcasting bought the station from locally owned Spring Broadcasting (who also owned WFHN "Fun 107" in New Bedford, MA) around the turn of the century. WQGN and WFHN, because they were owned by the same company, shared some of its personalities and station features. Both stations had a "Winners Weekend" where listeners could win anything from concert tickets to free CDs. Contests such as "The Big Money Hi-Lo" (listeners had to guess the correct jackpot amount and were told if their guess was too high or too low) and "The Birthday Game" were also featured on both stations.
WQGN 105.5 has been a CHR station since the mid-1980s. Before that, an automated syndicated pop/rock format, TM "Stereo Rock", was broadcast on the 105.5 frequency. The station's on-air positioner is "True Hit Music." Former slogans include: "Music Power", "The Most Music," "Today's Best Music", "All of Today's Hit Music" and "True Hit Music."
