Ancient Greek Food Revival Workshop
For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com Some people in modern Greece long for their ancient culinary traditions. We now go to a food workshop in Athens, where people cook and eat like the ancient Greeks did. A Greek "symposium" in the town of Kapandriti on the outskirts of Athens on Saturday. But this is no boring conference. It's a workshop where modern Greeks prepare meals using the same ingredients as their ancestors and then sample their recipes. In ancient times, a symposium was a Greek banquet dedicated to eating and drinking. According to historians, life in ancient Greece revolved around food, and workshops like this one revive these traditions. [Andrew Dalby, Food Historian]: "It was the center of ancient life as it can still be the center of life now. If we take our life and if we take our family seriously, eating can still be the center. It certainly was to them." The core foods of ancient Greek cuisine still survive in today's Greek cooking. Olives, olive oil, parsley, oregano, honey, fish and bread, have all stood the test of time and haven't been drowned out by imported foods and new recipes. But there are also many differences between ancient Greek eating habits and those of modern Greeks. Meat was rarely eaten - so put away the souvlaki. [Andrew Dalby, Food Historian]: "Meat was not a big item in the ancient diet - and perhaps not so much in the modern diet as in some other countries, but ...

The Albanian Language: Pure and Pelasgian?
Albanians like the late Aristidh Kola claim that the Albanian language is Pelasgian. Let's see what linguists say: 'Historical linguists point out that these borrowings from Ancient Greek were in the Doric dialect and penetrated into Illyrian through Corinthian commercial colonies in Corfu, along the Adriatic coast, and through border towns.' (Edwin E. Jacques, the Albanians: an ethnic history from pre-historic times to the present, p 37) ``The Albanian language has borrowed many words from Latin, Greek and Turkish. (Andrew Dalby, Dictionary of Languages: The Definitive Reference to More than 400 languages, p 13) Our knowledge of Albanian, except for a few words, extends back only as far as the fifteenth century of our era, and when we first meet with it, the vocabulary is so mixed with Latin, Greek, Turkish, and Slavonic elements owing to conquests and other causes that it is somewhat difficult to isolate the original Albanian. (Albert C. Baugh, Thomas Cable, A History of the English Language, p 25) ``Proto-Albanian is viewed as a language already possessing several features typical of the Albanian linguistic type. We reconstruct it in two forms: Early Proto-Albanian immediately before the beginning of linguistic contacts with speakers of Latin/Romance (1st century CE), and Late Proto-Albanian following contacts with Proto-Romance and ancient Slavic dialects still close to Proto-Slavic (6th-7th centuries CE). Major changes shattered the structure of Proto-Albanian during ...

Bangkitnya Pelatihan Masakan Yunani Kuno
[Andrew Dalby, Sejarawan Masakan]: "Memang benar, dokter kuno menganjurkan porsi kecil, misalnya secangkir anggur, bukan segelas. Secangkir anggur dan air untuk sarapan, tentunya." Ada ...

ERITREA - ERITREAN HISTORY - PART 1
Eritrean history part 2 - www.youtube.com ===================== GASH GROUP 3500 A "complex society" of pastoral people, who lived from the Gash (Mareb) River to the Red Sea hill and coast of Eritrea took rise in 3500 BC Based on archaeological evidence, the Gash people held extensive trades and contacts with Ancient Egypt, Nubia and the Arabian Peninsula. SOURCE: The development of urbanism in the northern Horn of Africa in ancient and medieval times by Rodolo Rattovich P. 4 ============== LAND OF PUNT in ERITREA In around 2490 2477 BC, the earliest the first definite record of contact with Land of Punt was found on a Palermo stone of the reign of Sahura of the Fifth Dynasty. The Land of Punt to the ancient Egyptions was often referred to as Ta netjer, which means, the "land of the god". Punt was known for producing and exporting Gold, African blackwood, ebony, ivory, wild animals, frankincense and aromatic resins. Sources: Encyclopedia of the Archaeology of Ancient Egypt By Kathryn A. Bard, Steven Blake Shubert. P. 637 Although the exact location of Punt is still uncertain, most scholars today do however agree that Punt was located in much of Eritrea and eastern Sudan. In fact, evidence confirms that an interchange circuit between Ancient Egypt and modern Eritrea did take place. At Agordat in the middle Barka valley of Eritrea, an Egyption Style,Ceramic ear-plug and some stone celts which imitate bronze prototypes of the 17-18th dynasties of Egypt have been excavated ...

Andrew Briar gas migration 26 08 2010
Andrew Briar dodges giving a straight answer.to a question on gas migration in coal seam gas mining. The problem is that once the water is removed from the coal seam to lower the pressure, the gas is then free to make its way to the surface via, water bores, old test bores, natural springs and fault lines in the surrounding rocks. Until this day however, the Queensland Government and its bureaucrats, and all the gas miners, had maintained the lie that there was no inter-connectivity between the targeted coal seams and other aquifer systems in the Great Artesian Basin. This day changed that, but it changed nothing else, procedures did not change, projects were not re-evaluated or stopped, it was business as usual even though one on the basic theories used up until that time to allow them all to claim CSG mining was safe, was admitted to be wrong. We need a Royal Commission with extensive powers to resolve the mysteries about the processes that have allowed this industry, this dangerous and unnecessary industry, to go ahead. Andrew eventually left the government when Santos offered him a, in his words, ridiculous amount of money, in my opinion he had already earned it for them.
