Stevenage vs Everton 0-4, FA Cup Fourth Round 2013-14 highlights
A comfortable fourth-round stroll away to outclassed League One opposition, thanks to two first-half strikes from Steven Naismith, was marred for Everton as Bryan Oviedo was carried off with what Roberto Martinez later said was a broken left tibia and fibula. Martinez was, though, pleased with the result in a competition close to his heart after he won it with Wigan last season. "I think the FA Cup is the best cup tournament in the world and I feel proud to be involved in it," he said. "As you saw today, the players feel the same. So we are excited; we have a strong enough squad to face two competitions." Stevenage 0-4 Everton An hour before kick-off, thunder, lightning and a bitter wind bearing stinging hailstones had suggested a Cup upset could be on the cards. But as kick-off approached the weather moved on and conditions, despite what would soon become a lightly ploughed pitch, ceased to be a factor. Stevenage applied early pressure and soon forced the first chance of the match as Lucas Akins took advantage of uncertainty in the visiting defence. Akins' shot beat Joel Robles in the Everton goal, but was straight at the covering defender on the line. Given the gap of 61 league places between the two sides, it never felt as though Stevenage could keep the pressure up and Everton soon punished the home side for their endeavour, Aiden McGeady skipping down the right and his firm, low cross being forced home by Naismith. Everton's bright start acquired a darker tinge as the first half neared the halfway point. Oviedo slid in to block a Simon Heslop shot and he remained on the ground with what immediately looked a serious injury after his studs caught in the turf. The Costa Rican was carried off to be replaced by Leon Osman after some delay. "It is one of those moments that you feel terribly sad because he was at a great moment in his career with the World Cup round the corner," said Martinez. "Our medical department will make the decision if surgery is needed or not. That's the next step and we'll find out in the next 24 hours." Whatever the outcome, it appears Oviedo's chances of facing England in this summer's World Cup are finished. Everton were shaken by the incident and neither side appeared likely to score as the half drifted on, Everton comfortable in containment and Stevenage lacking incision. But then Naismith, enjoying a rare outing at centre-forward, broke through to score again after Jon Ashton had let the ball slip under his foot. "The goals we conceded were soft," said the Stevenage manager Graham Westley. "There were errors before every goal and if you are going to make those sorts of defensive errors you are never going to stay in any game." With the small matter of a Merseyside derby on Tuesday in mind, the Everton manager Martinez replaced his captain Phil Jagielka, who he said could have carried on despite a "tight" hamstring, at half-time with John Heitinga coming on in his place. Within minutes the Dutch centre-back finished any remaining faint hopes Stevenage had with a powerful far-post header. Magaye Gueye's late fourth merely added gloss to a long forgone result. Arsenal vs Coventry City 4-0, FA Cup Fourth Round Proper 2013-14 highlights
Lukas Podolski's first-half double ensured Arsenal were the first side to make it into The FA Cup Fifth Round this season as the Premier League leaders overpowered Coventry City. Although Coventry had a handful of chances, with Leon Clarke a threat throughout, Arsenal rarely had to extend themselves and made the game safe with late goals from the substitutes Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. Coventry and their 5,100 travelling fans had bad memories of their last visit to the Emirates Stadium, going down 6-1 in the League Cup last season, but Arsene Wenger paid Steven Pressley's side a compliment by fielding a near full-strength side. England internationals Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were given an opportunity to boss midfield, and Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson were expected to drive forward from full-back. Arsenal permitted Coventry several early spells of possession, but there was always a feeling that the hosts were toying with the 1987 FA Cup-winners. And they punished some impatient Coventry build-up play when Oxlade-Chamberlain intercepted a pass intended for Franck Moussa and laid off for Mesut Ozil. The Germany international skipped clear of one challenge and picked out his countryman Podolski, who drove towards the visitors' box at speed. Joe Murphy sped off his line to close on Podolski but the forward held his nerve and fired into the empty net. Coventry came close to an immediate answer, however, when the ever-industrious Carl Baker burst from midfield and was allowed to canter through unattended before checking on to his left foot and shooting powerfully from 25 yards. Lukasz Fabianski had to be at his best to tip over. Podolski doubled his tally on 26 minutes, nodding unmarked in at the far post, after Per Mertesacker had flicked on Ozil's corner. Perhaps trailing 2-0 at half-time against the Premier League leaders liberated Coventry, because they emerged in a bullish mood. Clarke sprung clear of the offside trap but fired straight at the legs of Fabianski. Then the powerhouse striker picked up a pass from Moussa, but his chip-drive flew off target. Nicklas Bendtner came close to making it 3-0 for the hosts only to skew wide from 10 yards after good approach work from Jack Wilshere, but within seconds Coventry were at it again. Billy Daniels swiveled clear on the edge of the Arsenal area only to fire over Fabianski's cross. But the visitors' forward momentum soon petered out, and the Arsenal fans were treated to a first glimpse of the 16-year-old midfielder Gedion Zelalem. Tipped for great things, the Berlin-born Germany youth international became the first Arsenal player to born after Arsene Wenger took over at the north London club. Giroud ended Arsenal's 57-minute goalless spell by steering home an excellent left-wing cutback, and then another replacement, Cazorla, made it 4-0, smashing high into the roof of Murphy's net with one minute remaining. Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs; Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Zelalem, 71); Gnabry, Ozil, Podolski (Giroud, 79); Bendtner (Cazorla, 71). Substitutes: Viviano, Sagna, Monreal, Flamini. Booking: Wilshere Goals: Podolski 15, 27, Giroud 82, Cazorla 89. Rochdale AFC vs Sheffield Wednesday 1-2, FA Cup Fourth Round 2013-14 highlights
Stuart Gray has been confirmed as Sheffield Wednesday's new permanent boss after securing the Owls' progression into the FA Cup Fifth Round at Rochdale. Gray, who has been in caretaker charge since Dave Jones left at the end of November, has overseen an upturn in fortunes at Hillsborough. It has culminated in a timely FA Cup run for the three-time winners, with former AC Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu scoring the decisive goal for ten-man Wednesday at Spotland. Joe Mattock had opened the scoring on 51 minutes but was later sent off for a second bookable offence after Michael Rose halved the deficit on the hour mark for the League Two side. But Gray insists his future is clearer after midweek talks and he is delighted to see his side's name in the hat for the next round. "The contract has been going backwards and forward to the lawyers, but it just needs my signature on it now," said Gray. "Talks were finalised on Thursday, it's dragged on as such but the pleasing thing is that the players deserve all the credit as it's the players who have got me the job. You could see their commitment out there when we went down to ten men. "Before the game I was asking the foreign boys what does the FA Cup mean to them as it means so much to our British boys. Now they realise that as the atmosphere was fantastic." The Championship outfit took the lead six minutes after the break as Chris Maguire's in-swinging corner was helped in by Mattock among a melee of Dale defenders. Dale's failure to deal with another corner was to prove costly on 57 minutes as Mattock's delivery flashed across the area to the feet of Onyewu and the big man fired through a crowd of bodies. But the hosts poured forward and pulled one back as skipper Rose unleashed a right-footed strike beyond Martinez in the top corner before Mattock was handed a second yellow for a foul on Peter Vincenti. Rochdale boss Keith Hill said: "My players can leave with their head held high and I think the supporters can too. "It was an enormous task in the first place and I think Sheffield Wednesday gave us a lot of respect. "It was evens and we had chances in the first half, in the second they scored from two set plays but we responded well and got the goal, when they went down to ten men they defended superbly against our extra man." Bolton Wanderers vs Cardiff City 0-1, FA Cup Fourth Round 2013-14 highlights
Cardiff City recorded only their third win in 14 games to book their place in the Fifth Round of The FA Cup with victory over Bolton Wanderers. Frazier Campbell scored the only goal of the game just minutes after being introduced to the action and his solitary effort was enough to secure progress for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side. The tie was something of a welcome distraction for both clubs. With Cardiff rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and their hosts still reeling from last week's 7-1 drubbing at Reading, both clubs entered the fixture knowing that victory in The Cup could help revitalise their respective seasons. Yet with one eye on an upcoming trip to Old Trafford, Gary Medel, Steven Caulker and Campbell were amongst five players to give way for the visitors as Magnus Wolff Eikrem was handed a full debut by Solkjaer. By contrast, Bolton fielded eight of the same side that started at the Madejski last week - David N'Gog the most notable absentee as rumours continue to circulate about a possible switch to Cardiff's Welsh rivals, Swansea. Home boss Dougie Freedman was evidently keen for his side to make amends for last week's heavy defeat and his side had the best of the opening stages, though neither was able to craft a clear cut chance for themselves. Andreas Cornelius saw an early effort tipped over by Trotters 'keeper Andrew Lonergan and Chris Eagles' low cross troubled the Cardiff defence, but only for a moment as David Marshall took charge of his penalty area and palmed away. Chung-Yong Lee looked most dangerous for the hosts, but lacked the support up front to mount any real threat. Having first seen a fruitless 25-yard strike zip wide of the post, the South Korean came a little closer on the stroke of half-time as his volleyed effort missed the target by mere inches. Hoping to instil some attacking vigour into his side's second-half performance, Solsjkaer turned to Campbell and Craig Noone at the break. The changes paid off within five minutes of the restart as the two combined to open the scoring. Noone's lofted cross simply wasn't dealt with by Lonergan and Campbell was positioned perfectly to poke the visitors in front. He could have doubled his tally just five minutes later too, but was unable to adjust his footing enough to place his headed effort on target. With the momentum swinging in the Premier League side's favour, Neil Danns fought to restore parity but saw Bolton's best effort beaten away by Marshall. Craig Davies' deflected effort was later tipped away by the Scot and Lee again headed wide as time wound down. Though both sides traded blows in the closing stages, neither could alter the scoreline and it's Cardiff whose name will be in the hat for the next round. Bolton Wanderers: Lonergan, Ream, Mills, Knight, Baptiste, Spearing, Kamara (Odelusi, 73), Danns, Eagles (Moritz, 73), Lee, C Davies Goals: N/A Cardiff City: Marshall, McNaughton, Hudson, Turner, Theophile-Catherine, Whittingham, Eikrem (Noone, 46), Gunnarsson, Kim, Mason (Daehli, 80), Cornelius (Campbell, 46) Goals: Campbell (50). Alex Prager for Fourth & Main
Critics can’t seem to decide whether Alex Prager’s photography evokes the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s or even 80s. The truth is Prager’s film and photography draws on cinematic and visual cues from every decade. While William Eggleston, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch and Guy Bourdin have all been said to colour her work, Prager melds the palette of Hollywood’s golden yesteryears to her own ends. Prager-land has become a dark fantasy world where timeless themes subvert and sidestep period and categorisation.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool 0-2, FA Cup Fourth Round 2013-14 highlights
Liverpool booked their place in Sunday's FA Cup Fifth Round draw after a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Championship side AFC Bournemouth. Goals either side of half time from Victor Moses and Daniel Sturridge were enough to seal the seven-time FA Cup winners' progress, but Eddie Howe's men left the Goldsands Stadium to a standing ovation and their heads held high after a performance that, on another day, may have earned them a lot more. Brendan Rodgers paid Bournemouth and the competition the respect he felt both deserved in his squad selection. Despite sitting 32 places above the Cherries, the Liverpool boss named a formidable starting line-up and included first-team stalwarts Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson. AFC Bournemouth 0-2 Liverpool On a glorious mid-winter afternoon on the south coast, Bournemouth began the two sides' first meeting in 46 years much the brighter, and forced their illustrious visitors onto the back foot from the off. Two corners in the opening 90 seconds - followed by a neat exchange in midfield and a dangerous cross from the left that allowed Andrew Surman to ghost in and win a header at the near post, only to see his effort go inches over the frame of the goal. Nonetheless, it was a bright start for the hosts. Despite a 5am departure time for many of the 2,300 Liverpool fans packed into the South Stand, the travelling support were in fine voice -- matched by their equally vociferous hosts at the opposite end -- a pulsating Cup encounter, and atmosphere developed. Bournemouth continued to enjoy the lions' share of possession and were much the better team for most of the opening exchanges. Indeed, 25 minutes had passed before Liverpool mustered an attempt at goal. Harry Arter brought down Suarez on the edge of the box. Gerrard and Suarez hovered over the dead ball as the Bournemouth wall stood nervously. But despite the England captain firing just over Lee Camp's goal, it proved to be the injection of energy the visitors needed and seconds later they were ahead -- albeit against the run of play. Liverpool Victor Moses celebrates the opening goal for Liverpool. Moses found himself in space wide on the left and the man on loan from Chelsea dropped his shoulder, shifted his weight and fired an effort low to the unsighted Camp's right. It was unfortunate for the hosts and the on-pitch celebrations were muted, and verged on bashful. Despite finding themselves undeservedly behind, Howe's side refused to allow Moses' goal to take the wind out of their sails and continued to play with confidence and composure. As half-time approached Bournemouth continued to press. Surman had a golden opportunity to level the tie on 35 minutes as he met left-back Charlie Daniels' low cross -- but the man on loan from Norwich saw his goalbound effort well blocked by Kolo Toure. From the resulting Surman corner, Tommy Elphick rose above everyone else but the captain's towering header flew just over. Liverpool had chances of their own, however, and a rare lapse of concentration at the back almost allowed them in. Suarez dispossessed Daniels in his own box and beat two men before squaring to Jordan Henderson -- but leaning back, the England midfielder fired high over Camp's goal. As the second period got under way, the game followed a similar pattern to that of the first. Bournemouth pressed, hurried and harried their guests -- and Liverpool continued to threaten on the break. And indeed, the visitors breached the Cherries' defence in similar circumstances -- against the run of play. Liverpool Martin Kelly and Charlie Daniels contest a 50-50 challenge. As Bournemouth pressed for an equaliser, Sturridge, unusually quiet throughout the first hour of play, latched on to a delightful ball from Luis Suarez and the England striker confidently slotted home under the onrushing Camp. The goal seemed to spark Sturridge into action. First, set through by a fine diagonal pass from Henderson, the striker attempted to loop the ball over Camp only to see his effort bounce off the top of the bar and harmlessly behind. Moments later, the 24-year-old embarked on a mazy run from the right and beat three tiring Bournemouth defenders, but sliced his left-foot effort well wide. A third would have been harsh on the tiring hosts, though, and they managed to see out the remaining stages without allowing Liverpool to increase their lead and the game petered out. AFC Bournemouth Coutinho and O'Kane compete at the Goldsands Stadium. It was job done for Liverpool, but both sides were warmly applauded off the field by all four corners of the ground -- and rightly so. A fine Cup tie.- published: 26 Jan 2014

Manchester City vs Watford 4-2, FA Cup Fourth Round 2013-14 highlights
Sergio Aguero was the hero for Manchester City as his second-half hat-trick helped Manuel Pellegrini's men avoid an FA Cup upset against Watford. The Championship side had deservedly taken a two-goal lead into the break through Fernando Forestieri and Troy Deeney. But City came out all guns blazing in the second half to earn what at one stage appeared an unlikely victory -- with Aguero the catalyst for the comeback. The Argentinian volleyed home the first from close range, before levelling matters on 78 with a sweetly-struck left-foot effort from the edge of the area. With just three minutes remaining, Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond spilled Aleksandar Kolarov's low shot from range and Aguero completed the comeback, and his treble, in added time. Watford deserve a great deal of credit for their performance, particularly in the first half, but an Aguero-inspired City move into Round Five and are still in the hunt in four separate competitions. The Hornets started the tie brightly, as Deeney and Cristian Battocchio both fired efforts just over the top of Costel Pantilimon's bar in the opening four minutes. It took City a while to get going and their first sight at goal came from a Jesus Navas corner. The ball found its way to the back post but Joleon Lescott could only blaze over from just a few yards out. However, this chance failed to lift a sluggish City from their slumber and it was no surprise when Watford took the lead on 21 minutes. Gabriele Angella found Deeney from the right and a weighted flick from the skipper played in Forestieri, who was bursting through. The Italian took the ball in his stride and coolly beat Pantilimon with a low shot into the far corner. And things got even better for the visitors just before the 30-minute mark as Deeney deservedly doubled their advantage. A poor pass from Martin Demichelis was pounced upon by Sean Murray, who linked up with Ikechi Anya to set up a counter-attack. Anya fed Deeney and the big No9 did the rest, calmly slipping the ball underneath Pantilimon at the near post to send the travelling fans into dreamland. Seeing the need to shore up his backline, Manuel Pellegrini made two changes at the break. Pablo Zabaleta replaced Micah Richards at right-back while club captain Vincent Kompany came on for Jack Rodwell, with Demichelis moving into midfield. The hosts improved in the second half and took the game to Watford straight from the restart. Edin Dzeko found himself with a yard of space inside the box but got the ball stuck under his feet and failed to trouble Bond. The tide was turning, though, and City gradually increased the pressure on their Championship opponents - substitute Stevan Jovetic, on for Marcos Lopes, couldn't quite connect with Zabaleta's cross as Pellegrini's men sought a route back into the contest. The pressure eventually told, though, as Aguero smashed home Kolarov's ball from the left on 59 minutes. This goal gave City the impetus and they set about finding an equaliser, with Dzeko again unable to find a way past Bond with a low shot. Watford were required to defend stoutly for the remainder of the game, with Deeney their sole outlet upfront. But the free-scoring Premier League side levelled matters with just 12 minutes remaining as Aguero curled home a wonderful left-foot effort from the edge of the box. With a replay looking likely, Kolarov tried his luck from distance with just three minutes left on the clock and the ball squirmed through Bond's fingers and crept over the line to edge City ahead late on. And Aguero completed the comeback two minutes into added time, tapping home a deep cross at the back post.- published: 26 Jan 2014
