Ohad

Ohad (Hebrew: אֹהַד‎) was the third son of Simeon; he is mentioned in Genesis 46:10. His name means "will sympathize", or "united" and "power" (both rare interpretations). It is also a common name for boys in Israel.

Ohad Moskowitz

Ohad Moskowitz (born 1974), known professionally as Ohad, is an Orthodox Jewish vocalist who is one of the superstars of the contemporary Jewish religious music scene. He rose to international stardom in 2003 with his first solo album, Vearastich, produced by Yossi Green.

Music career

Ohad began his career singing back-up vocals for Orthodox Jewish stars such as Mordechai Ben David and Dedi Graucher. His first American performance took place in 2003 at Yossi Green's annual Jewish hospice benefit concert at the Lincoln Center. Green was so impressed with the audience's reaction to Ohad's singing that he offered to produce Ohad's first album. Green wrote several songs for the album, including the title track, "Vearastich" (I Will Betroth You).

Ohad's debut album catapulted him to fame. He was named Singer of the Year at the Hasidic Music "People of the Year" ceremony in Israel in 2004. He was a featured singer at the HASC 18 "A Time for Music" in 2005. He was also a featured vocalist at HASC 20 (2007); HASC 21 (2007) (where he performed as one of the "Four Tenors" alongside Avraham Fried, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, and Dudu Fisher); HASC 24 (2010) (where he sang a duet with Hasidic singer and hazzan Yehuda Green); HASC 25 (2011); and HASC 27 (2013). Ohad also performs at concerts benefiting Ohel and other Jewish charity organizations.

Aaron Teitelbaum

Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum (born 20 October 1947) is one of two Grand Rebbes of Satmar, and the Ruv of the Satmar community in Kiryas Joel, New York. He is recognized as a charismatic and forceful figure.

Background

Aaron Teitelbaum is the oldest son of the late Grand Rabbi of Satmar Moshe Teitelbaum, who was the nephew of the late Satmar Rebbe, Grand Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum. Aaron Teitelbaum married Sasha, the daughter of Grand Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua Hager, the previous Viznitzer Rebbe of Bnei Brak, Israel.

In 1985, Aaron Teitelbaum was appointed as the chief rabbi and rosh yeshiva of the Satmar congregation in Kiryas Joel, which gave him authority over all the community's affairs. The residents of Kiryas Joel at that time resented the appointment of Aaron, having issues with his personality, controlling nature, and his opposition against his father in the NYS courthouses.

Satmar succession feud

In May 1999, Moshe Teitelbaum appointed his third son, Zalman Teitelbaum, as the local leader of the Williamsburg congregation. This was seen as a signal from Moshe that Zalmen was to become Chief Rabbi after his death.

Ohad Naharin

Ohad Naharin (born 1952) (Hebrew: אוהד נהרין) is an Israeli contemporary dancer, choreographer and dance company artistic director.

Biography

Ohad Naharin was born in 1952 in Kibbutz Mizra. Raised in an artistic home, he wrote stories, composed music, and painted as a child. His father was a psychologist specializing in psychodrama and an actor who performed with Habima and the Haifa Theater. His mother was a Feldenkreis instructor, choreographer and dancer. Nevertheless, Naharin did not start dancing until age 22. During his first year with the Batsheva Dance Company, Martha Graham visited Israel and invited Naharin to join her dance company in New York. He attended Juilliard and the School of American Ballet.

In 1978, he married Mari Kajiwara, a native New Yorker and an Alvin Ailey dancer. In 2001, she died of cancer at age 50.

He is now married to Eri Nakamura, a Batsheva dancer with whom he has a daughter.

Batsheva Dance Company

In 1990, Naharin was appointed the artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company, thereby launching the company into a new stage. The company is international in nature, made up of individually unique dancers from Israel and abroad. Dancers are encouraged to affirm their distinct creative gifts, as creators on their own.
