Myth of Arab cultural domination of "Negroes" part 1 introduction to the land of Zanj
Edit: This is from MA Shaban on the Zanj revolt. The quoted part is page 102 but he starts on page 101 books.google.com "If more proof is needed that it was not a slave revolt, it is to be found in the fact that it had a highly organized army and navy which vigorously resisted the whole weight of the central government for almost fifteen years. Moreover, it must have had huge resources that allowed it to build no less than six impregnable towns in which there were arsenals for the manufacture of weapons and battleships. These towns also had in their mammoth markets prodigious wealth which was more than the salt marshes could conceivably produce. Even all the booty from Basra and the whole region could not account for such enormous wealth. Significantly the revolt had the backing of a certain group of merchants who preserved with their support until the very end. Tabari makes it very clear that the strength of the rebels was dependent on the support of these merchants. " Please tell me if any of the information here is wrong Allot of this is information I already posted "It was thought that Swahili settlements were founded by foreigners, particularly by Islamic traders," he says. "But these discoveries show the people here were interacting with other civilizations - and long before the Islamic era. " Prof. Felix Chami news.bbc.co.uk The bellow is new: The Arabic term "Bilad-es-Sudan" is translated into "land of the blacks" or "land of the Negroes". When the Arabs of this ...

When "Negroes" dominated "Arabs" part 2 (Zanj revolt)
Sources: Even mistranslated, as Im pretty sure this is, a close look at it really makes the idea that the Zanj revolt was primarily a slave revolt seem less probable Al-Jahiz (776-869) born in Basra : Al-Fakhar al-Sudan min al-Abyadh (the prides of blacks over the whites) "The Blacks continue: coming from Abyssinia, we were Masters of the country of Arabia up to Mecca, and on all the country our law reigned. We put to rout Du Nuwas, killed by the 'Aqyal Himyarites. You, you never dominated our country.".... They say; If a Zanji and a Zanji women marry and their children remain after puberty in Iraq, they come to rule the roost thanks to their numbers, endurance, knowledge, and efficiency. On the other hand, the child of an Indian and an Indian woman, or of a Greek and a Greek woman, or of a Khurasani and a Khurasani women remain among you and in your country in the same condition as their fathers and mothers"..... "The Zanj also say : Among our good qualities are our good singers. As you can find among the slave girls from Sind. Also nobody is a better cook then the black slaves from Sind. Also moneychangers will never entrust their money then to those from Sind or their descendents as they are found to be better in those affairs, more alert and worthy of thrusting . One hardly ever finds a Greek or a Khorassan in a position of trust in a bank. When the bankers of Basra saw the excellent affairs that Faraj Abu Kub, a Sindi, had negotiated for his master, each of them took ...

La Pocha Remix: Psiho-magične akcije za narobe svet / La Pocha Remix: Psycho-Magic Actions For a World Gone Wrong
LA POCHA NOSTRA / (Guillermo Gomez-Peña, Violeta Luna & Erica Mott)
Performans
Ob uporabi »robo-barok« estetike, kiborg-kiča in strupenega humorja, ki so zaščitni znak La Poche Nostre (LPN), so Psiho-magične akcije za narobe svet njihova najnovejša avantura v ritualno prezentacijo žive umetnosti in živega jezika. Z vrsto »telesnih transformacij«, vključno z njihovimi klasičnimi perfomansi in novostmi, se LPN loteva in skuša razumeti trenutno kulturo skrajnodesničarske izolacije, ksenofobije in nasilja organiziranega kriminala.
V procesu zasnove Psiho-magičnih akcij bo LPN načela in raziskala naslednja vprašanja:
1. Katere nove performativne strategije izražajo proces reinvencije pred občinstvom? Posebna pozornost bo namenjena vprašanjem, kot so:
● Kaj je EKS-tremno (X-treme), ko je vse ekstremno?
● Kakšna je tehtna interaktivnost, ko je vse interaktivno?
● Je sodelovanje občinstva pomembno, ko nas pop kultura nenehno nagovarja k sodelovanju v nesmiselnem potrošništvu, vsak nov tehnološki izum pa k »odgovarjanju«? In komu pravzaprav odgovarjamo?
2. Kako kritično krmarimo institucionalizacijo performativne umetnosti kot forme skozi naš edinstveni estetski objektiv?
Delo bo hibrid med » živim arhivom« in našo radikalno pedagogiko: performans v okviru jam sessiona, nabitega z energijo, in čudne ritualne oblike resničnostnega šova.

LA POCHA NOSTRA / (Guillermo Gomez-Peña, Violeta Luna & Erica Mott)
Performance
Employing La Pocha Nostra’s trademark “robo-baroque’ aesthetic, cyborg-kitsch and acid humor, Psycho-Magic Actions for A World Gone Wrong is LPN’s newest adventure into ritual presentation of live art and live language. Through a series of ‘corporeal transformations’ including the sampling of performance classics and new work, LPN addresses and tries to make sense of the current culture of far right isolationism, xenophobia, and the violence of organized crime.
Within the devising process of Psycho-Magic Actions, LPN will excavate and examine the following questions:
1. What are new performance strategies to express our process of reinvention in front of an audience? Careful consideration will be given to questions such as:
● What is X-treme when everything is extreme?
● What is meaningful interactivity when everything is interactive?
● Is audience participation relevant when pop culture is constantly asking us to participate in meaningless consumerism, and every new technological gadget is asking us to “talk back”? And whom do we talk back to?
2. How do we critically navigate the institutionalization of performance art as a form through our unique aesthetic lens?
3. How can we remain open, original, porous, funny, critical, without falling to post-ironic jadedness or becoming one more “packaged product” for international festivals?
Through this investigation, we will cultivate a new format that incorporates simultaneous dialogue between live art actions and images, poetic interventions, and de-constructive commentary. The piece can be viewed as a hybrid between a ‘living archive’ and our radical pedagogy: a performance within a high-energy jam session and weird reality show ritual format.
As always, audience members are invited to participate in this bizarre experiment. They will be invited to collaborate as we incarnate “the dreams and nightmares of our current times,” and to help the performers re-imagine new iconography whether by intervening the performance with their own bodies, or with verbal provocations. Through this, LPN will invoke a “clumsy but radical democratic practice.” The revelation of the process as well as the search to discover new images in situ and a new form to contain them becomes the actual project.

Trinidad. Semana Santa. (1950)
