What The Ancients Did For Us The Britons History Documentary
Please Enjoy. Subscribe & Like too. Thanks. Cheers! A lot of people still think that we were just woad-covered savages before the Romans came along. Well, we weren't - firstly we weren't covered in woad but dressed in a rather elegant new-fangled invention - trousers; more importantly we were organised, spiritual, technologically advanced Brits with European business connections all without towns and cities or being able to read and write! This programme shows the evolution of the people of Britain from Stone Age hunters to Iron Age warriors. From early people who used animal bone picks to dig mines to a society skilled in the use of metallurgy, bronze, iron and gold. From a nomadic existence to a society organised into tribes with their own coinage and identities. From farmers using simple wooden ploughs to ferocious warriors driving thousands of chariots and repulsing the invading Roman army of Julius Caesar. European Sword: Metallurgy and Construction
European Sword: Metallurgy and Construction
Finally, my 5 cents about Ancient and Medieval european metallurgy, sword blade construction and its basic design. Nowadays it became almost a custom to think Japanese swords are totally exceptional and their creation/metallurgy is something never seen before. We hear it constantly: -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBU8id2oHVw&t;=21m13s The Japanese sword was never the hardest, toughest and sharpest sword ever made and Masamune certainly wasn't the super genius he is hyped to be. Authentic Japanese swords made from original raw materials with original tools are hard to create, indeed, but that is all about the low grade material which does not forgive any mistakes - a such blade could be easily spoiled by a single flaw. And that makes Japanese swords a special work of art, not their physical capabilities. In the end, at the height of Japanese swordmaking in the Kamakura period (around 1300 A.D.), Japanese were making blades using techniques which were more or less abandoned in Central Asia, Persia and Europe - Persia had high quality crucible steel and Europe developed its blast furnace, leaving 15 time- folding and selective hardening behind. PS: Sorry for mistakes in the text, English is my third language... ;-) *DISCLAIMER: For entertainment and educational purposes only! I do not own any music, pictures or footage utilized in my video. Go to LearnOutLoud.com to download this and more Greek Mythology on mp3. Hephaestus is the Greek god of blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes.Hephaestus' Roman equivalent is Vulcan. In Greek mythology, Hephaestus was the son of Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of the gods. As a smithing god, Hephaestus made all the weapons of the gods in Olympus. He served as the blacksmith of the gods, and was worshiped in the manufacturing and industrial centers of Greece, particularly Athens. The cult of Hephaestus was based in Lemnos. Hephaestus' symbols are a smith's hammer, anvil, and a pair of tongs.- published: 19 Sep 2013
