Gruinard Island Anthrax Biological Warfare Experiment Great Britain 1942
During World War II, the British started their biological weapons program to counter suspected Japanese and German biological threats. The program's research focused on the viability and "range of spread" of anthrax spores when delivered with a conventional bomb. Testing was conducted on Gruinard Island, off the coast of Scotland. The program ceased when an anthrax outbreak occurred in a coastal town near the island. The island proved surprisingly difficult to decontaminate, the anthrax spores remained viable in the soil for over 36 years. Initially, the British attempted to burn the soil and vegetation, but soil samples still showed viable spores. In 1986, the government hired a contractor to decontaminate the island. The process consisted of saturating the soil with 280 tons of formaldehyde diluted in seawater and removing tons of topsoil; this was followed by a final formaldehyde wash. In July of 1989, the British government lifted travel restrictions and declared the island safe. For more information on the Gruinard Island anthrax experiment, go to en.wikipedia.org . Going To Extremes: Voz-Island (Vozrozhdeniya) - Part 2
This is the second of two parts of Voz-Island (Vozrozhdeniya). Nick Middleton travels across Kazakhstan to the world's most toxic environmental disaster zone, Voz Island in the Aral Sea. He follows the Kazakh water course across the desert, starting in the pastures of the Tien Shan, and hunting with some of the world's last golden eagle falconers, before flying in a home-made microlite following an ancient river course through the desert. He arrives at the Aral Sea, a lake which has become totally toxic through mismanagement of the water supply and overuse of chemical pesticides. It also has an island housing a former Soviet biological weapons testing centre.

Biological Warfare: "What You Should Know About Biological Warfare" 1952 Civil Defense 7min
more at quickfound.net "How can we protect ourselves against the threats of germs and toxins? Cold War America gears up to fend off threats from unconventional bioweapons." Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). en.wikipedia.org Biological warfare (also known as germ warfare) is the use of biological toxins or infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi with intent to kill or incapacitate humans, animals or plants as an act of war. Biological weapons (often termed "bio-weapons" or "bio-agents") are living organisms or replicating entities (viruses) that reproduce or replicate within their host victims... There is an overlap between biological warfare and chemical warfare, as the use of toxins produced by living organisms is considered under the provisions of both the Biological Weapons Convention and the Chemical Weapons Convention... Historical accounts from medieval Europe detail the use of infected animal carcasses, by Mongols, Turks and other groups, to infect enemy water supplies. Prior to the bubonic plague epidemic known as the Black Death, Mongol and Turkish armies were reported to have catapulted disease-laden corpses ...

Al-Qaeda's search for anthrax; destruction of anthrax in Ames, Iowa
Before the anthrax attacks, Al-Qaeda was looking for anthrax. Immediately after the anthrax attacks, in Ames Iowa, samples of anthrax were destroyed. Is there a connection between those two events? Lew Weinstein, author of CASE CLOSED, a novel which presents a fictional scenario to explain why the FBI failed to solve the anthrax case, also maintains a blog which has become a vibrant forum for discussion of the actual anthrax case. This video shows a possible connection between two topics being discussed on the CASE CLOSED blog ... Al-Qaeda's search for anthrax ... and the destruction of anthrax in Ames Iowa. To find the blog, and the book, go to www.caseclosedbylewweinstein.wordpress.com.

Biological Warfare Routes of Exposure 1950s
Biological weapons may expose workers to bacteria, viruses, or toxins as fine airborne particles. Biological agents are infectious through one or more of the following mechanisms of exposure, depending upon the particular type of agent: (1) inhalation, with infection through respiratory mucosa or lung tissues; (2) ingestion; (3) contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes or nasal tissues; or (4) penetration of the skin through lesions or abrasions. Biological agents, as liquid or solid organic airborne particles, behave the same in the air as inert or inorganic particles because they share the same aerodynamic characteristics. Because biological weapons are particles, they will not permeate the materials used in the construction of respirators or protective clothing in the same way that some chemicals can permeate through them. However, biological particles potentially can penetrate through seams, closures, interfaces, pores, and gaps in protective apparel. Careful attention to properly selected, assembled and fitted personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential to ensuring necessary protection for first responders. For more information on protections against biological agents, go to the NIOSH website www.cdc.gov . This is clipped from the 1953 Navy training film, Biological Warfare Defense which covers the means of dispersal of biological agents, protective measures, effects on personnel, treatment of personnel and decontamination of affected areas. The entire film ...

Official Selection in the Amsterdam Festival 2009, the most important in documentaries in Europe. la isla archives of a tragedy at the end of the 20th century, in guatemala army and police kill and abduct hundreds and thousands of people. but the unprecedented genocide in americas modern history goes unpunished. to this day a system of terror and impunity relies on silence being kept ...
