Bríd Brennan
Bríd Brennan (born 1955) is a Northern Irish actress of film, stage and television, best known for her theatre work. She originated the role of Agnes in critically acclaimed performances of Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa for which she won a Tony Award. She later reprised this role in the film version, starring alongside Meryl Streep and Michael Gambon in 1998.
Career
Early work
Beginning her acting career in Dublin, Brennan appeared in many of the major theatres including the Gate Theatre, the Abbey Theatre and the Gaiety Theatre, as well as touring community centres with Moving Theatre.
Theatre work
Brennan created the role of Agnes Mundy in Brian Friel's play Dancing at Lughnasa" (1990). She played the role in the original Dublin, West End and Broadway (1992–1992) productions, winning the 1992 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
Brennan portrayed the character Janet in the National Theatre's 1994 production of Rutherford and Son and was subsequently nominated for an Olivier Award the following year. She then went on to play the lead role of Lady Macbeth in the Royal Shakespeare Company's national tour of Macbeth in 1996-1997.

Transnational Institute
The Transnational Institute (TNI) is a transnational alternative policy group and “network of scholar-activists”’ that produces critical research oriented toward enhancing democracy, social justice and ecological sustainability. It was established in 1973 in Amsterdam, originally as the international branch of the Institute for Policy Studies.
Activities and Projects
TNI's research seeks to challenge existing corporate priorities and state policies, and advocate for alternative globalization policies that are more sustainable, just and democratic.
It produces macro-level analyzes and critiques of the current global order, focused on six key programs or issues:
1. The Agrarian Justice project brings together research and analysis on the collective struggles of rural working people to democratize access, ownership, and local, national and global alliance of small-scale farmers, fisherfolk and marginalized rural working people.
2. The Corporate Power project develops analysis and proposals on how to end corporate impunity and dismantle corporate power. It is a lead facilitator of the international movement "Stop Corporate Impunity" and supports international efforts to establish binding international legal obligations for TNCs.

Synopsis: Single mother Collette McVeigh is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers. “Trade, investment, climate change and corporate power”
This was the name of a convergence assembly that took place on Tuesday in Paris, in the framework of the “Climate Action Zone”, where activities parallel to the UN COP 21 on climate change are taking place.
The assembly was organized by the Global Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power, the Transnational Institute of the Netherlands, Friends of the Earth International and ATTAC France, among several other groups.
TNI of the Netherlands and Real World Radio are sharing a short video with three interviews with important participants of the assembly, John Hilary, Executive Director of War on Want (Britain), Brid Brennan, from the Transnational Institute (Netherlands) and Diana Aguiar, from FASE (Brazil).
The links between fossil fuel addiction and war, the need to look at the systemic roots and the policies of the crises and “revolutions” to face them, the “militarized corporate capture” of the planet, are some of the issues analyzed by the interviewees.

Our addiction to fossil fuels is our addiction to war.
The Iraq war was fought explicitly for oil.
All of our geostrategic interventions across the world are directed by this thirst for fossil fuels, for oil and gas.
If we can break our dependance on fossil fuels we can take care of one of the greatest reason behind going to war.
It's a win-win situation if we can just say no to fossil fuels and invest properly in alternative sources of energy.
The problems are political systemic problems, we need to move beyond a reformist politics, towards a revolutionary politics. We need a revolution in terms of our energy sources, we need a revolution in terms of our politics, we need a revolution in terms of our social values. Without that, we and the planet are doomed.

We live in an era that we can call the corporate capture of the planet. And it's clearly a militarised corporate capture of the planet. This is leading to a situation to where raw materials and resources of the planet, esp fossil fuels and minerals are being extracted in the framework of free trade agreements, which have investment clauses that marginalises governments and puts corporations at the centre of the economic and political paradigm. And this in its turn is actually accelerating climate change.
In the face of the militarised corporate capture of the planet it is only in the convergence of citizens, organised citizens organisations, social movements, the coming together of trade unionists and peasants and women organisation, indigenous peoples that will be able to reclaim sovereignty on the resources of the planet.

A cousin of a Scottish soldier murdered by the IRA in Belfast over 40 years ago has branded comments describing the IRA as "freedom fighters" as an insult and called for an apology.
