Thanks for watching...... 1) Karlovac 2) Osijek 3) Pula 4) Rijeka 5) Šibenik 6) Slavonski Brod 7) Split 8) Varaždin 9) Zadar 10) Zagreb Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia (Croatian: Republika Hrvatska About this sound listen (help·info)), is a unitary democratic parliamentary republic at the crossroads of Central Europe, Southern Europe, and the Mediterranean. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb. The country is divided into 20 counties and the city of Zagreb. Croatia covers 56,594 square kilometres (21,851 square miles) and has diverse, mostly continental and Mediterranean climates. Croatia's Adriatic Sea coast contains more than a thousand islands. The country's population is 4.28 million, most of whom are Croats, with the most common religious denomination being Roman Catholicism. Having joined on 1 July 2013, Croatia is the newest, 28th member state of the European Union. The Croats arrived in the area of present-day Croatia during the early part of the 7th century. They organised the state into two duchies by the 9th century. Tomislav became the first king by 925 AD, elevating Croatia to the status of a kingdom. The Kingdom of Croatia retained its sovereignty for nearly two centuries, reaching its peak during the rule of Kings Peter Krešimir IV and Dmitar Zvonimir. Croatia entered a personal union with Hungary in 1102. In 1527, faced with Ottoman conquest the Croatian Parliament elected Ferdinand I of the House of Habsburg to the Croatian throne. In 1918, after World War I, Croatia was included in the unrecognized State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs which seceded from Austria--Hungary and merged into the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. A fascist Croatian puppet state existed during World War II. After the war, Croatia became a founding member and a federal constituent of Second Yugoslavia, a socialist state. In June 1991, Croatia declared independence, which came into effect on 8 October of the same year. The Croatian War of Independence was fought successfully during the four years following the declaration. Croatia today has a very high Human Development Index. The International Monetary Fund classified Croatia as an emerging and developing economy, and the World Bank identified it as a high income economy. Croatia is a member of the European Union, United Nations, the Council of Europe, NATO, the World Trade Organization and a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean. As an active participant in the UN peacekeeping forces, Croatia has contributed troops to the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan and took a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2008--2009 term. The service sector dominates Croatia's economy, followed by the industrial sector and agriculture. Tourism is a significant source of revenue during the summer, with Croatia ranked the 18th most popular tourist destination in the world. The state controls a part of the economy, with substantial government expenditure. The European Union is Croatia's most important trading partner. Since 2000, the Croatian government has invested in infrastructure, especially transport routes and facilities along the Pan-European corridors. Internal sources produce a significant portion of energy in Croatia; the rest is imported. Croatia provides a universal health care system and free primary and secondary education, while supporting culture through numerous public institutions and through corporate investments in media and publishing. Austrian School Economics and the Croatian gold market explained by Sven Sambunjak
Subscribe to our newsletter at http://www.goldmoney.com/goldresearch. Sven Sambunjak, organiser of the 2nd Precious Metals Conference in Zagreb, Croatia, and the GoldMoney Foundation's Alasdair Macleod talk about the Croatian gold market, the Croatian economy and Austrian School Economics. Due to taxes on precious metals that exceed 60%, the gold market in Croatia is virtually non-existent. Therefore people go to Slovenia, Italy or Hungary to buy gold and silver. Through his website Sambunjak offers a service for Croatian investors to buy and store precious metals abroad. He hopes that high gold taxes will be dropped as Croatia enters the European Union next year. In Croatia, Keynesian economics is the dominant school of economic thought in universities and the mainstream media. However alternate views are gaining in popularity -- particularly among young people with internet access. Sambunjak believes that most European countries have some way to go when it comes to a culture of gold and silver ownership. Sambunjak points out that while debt levels in Croatia are lower than in many other European countries, many Croatians are nonetheless heavily dependent on government spending. Croatia has high VAT and income taxes, high unemployment, and has been in a recession for over two years. However the black market is flourishing, while tourism in the country is increasing. Chile to Kili: Driving change from the seat of a bicycle
The goal: Ride from Chile to Kilimanjaro
Elvis Munis, 25, of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, is bicycling around the world to raise awareness about environmental issues and funds for scholarships to support students in Africa to study resource management in college.
The distance of this trip is about 80 000kms or 50 000m and will traverse some 41 countries completely unsupported.
Elvis’s journey started in Santiago, Chile and takes him through Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Alaska, across the Bearing Sea (by any means) into Russia, Mongolia, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, across the Caspian Sea into Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and ending at the foot of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania—Elvis's home.
Elvis, and any riders who dare to join him, must locate and carry their own food, shelter, and resources throughout the trip. Most nights will be spent camping in tents or staying with local contacts.
If you’re on his route and can offer a place to stay or a hot meal, drop us a line or if you want to have a semi-real-time chat with Elvis, or just tell him "good luck", post a little something here.
Inspiration:
This ride was inspired by the Gandhi’s famous quotation- “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
This has been a long-time favorite quote of both event organizers and triggered a conversation on the shores of Zanzibar that lead to the creation of this life-altering event.
Change must come from the inside. Elvis, a 25 year old Tanzanian naturalist and student, identifies one of the major problems in his country as the lack of opportunity for Tanzanians to obtain the education necessary to manage their own natural resources. Tanzania’s economy is dependent on conservation-based tourism, yet management decisions and safari companies tend to be run by foreigners. This ride will raise awareness about the lack of educational opportunities and therefor lack of upward mobility afforded to Tanzanian citizens.
By volunteering to bike around the world in an effort to raise money for a scholarship program for conservation students like himself, Elvis truly is “being” the change he wants to see.

Aurora, the Aura City
The intro of this video is a mashup containing fragments of other movies found online. The second part had been produce and filmed by the author. This design fiction was created during the Urban IxD summer school held in Split, Croatia during August 2013.
Authors: Mara Balestrini, Sandro Engel, Ena Hadžić and Assunta Matassa
Atelier leaders: Tobias Revell and Sara Bozanic
Synopsis:
It is 2113. Cities have undergone profound change. By around 2050 urban population had grown dramatically and resources were scarce. Despite attempts to achieve sustainability, human obsession with owning resources lead to the collapse of society. The first wave of hope came in the form of collaborative consumption. This had begun decades before but only minorities had engaged. Citizens started to share their resources to ensure access to shelter, food and transport. Ownership had become an old luxury.
In the beginning the sharing economy enabled encounter, trust and social capital. But desire for efficiency and optimization lead to the development of highly sophisticated sharing systems that precluded social interactions. Gradually, equipped with all sorts of sensors capable of recording information from brain activity to visual stimuli, smells and somatic experiences, we began to remotely share the most sensible data about our human experience. As time passed by the streets were empty, people lost agency with the physical world and with others. Public funding was given to researchers working on interactive systems to foster social connectedness.
Now it is 2113 and this is our second wave of hope. Wearing our new technologies, we have achieved ultimate connectivity: we enjoy augmented experiences as long as we sync our senses with others in proximity. Sharing visual data requires that people look in each other's eyes; sharing feelings can only occur if people actually touch. Even memories can be shared, but this data is only unlocked when two or more users reach certain levels of specific neuromodulators. In a society that relies on data sharing for most of its processes reputation needs to be quantified. Personal Aura points determine your aggregated reputation and whether others can trust you for sharing or not. In an Aura economy, finally, what you give is what you get.

art installation & exhibition design by Studio Rašić
Large hand made letters make a sign that reads DIZAJN (Design), and they are the main part of the typographic art installation, while the second part is the word ART. Using the two terms in their work, Studio Rasic questions the relationship of a designer and an artist towards the environment, consumerism, politics, economy, recession, etc. Is the designer also an artist? Where is the boundary? Where is the boundary between cultural and commercial creativity? Do such creative functions contribute to the economy?
D – „infomania” (D is made out of CD's which were really used in our projects)
I – „knowledge” (I is made of books we designed)
Z – „corruption” (Z is made from the police line tape. „USKOK” is a Croatian Anti-corruption & Anti-criminal Organization)
A – „darkness” (A is made out of neon lights)
J – „thirst” (J is made from empty non-recyclable plastic cups)
N – „consumerism” (N is made out of toilet paper)

The film was co-financed by: The City of Rijeka Office for Culture, Primorsko-Goranska County
Synopsis:
The film is a story about transformation and transition - of facts, time, emotions and expectations.
In part, it is a story about a building in Rijeka from the end of 19th century known as the Rikard Benčić factory, which hosted different industries, stood vacant in a state of semi-ruin for years, and is soon to be transformed into a new building of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Its history represents Rijeka’s traumatic bout of deindustrialization, which raises polemics about revitalization of its postindustrial urban zone and finding a planning consensus to re-tailor the cities’ identity. Its transformation into the Museum represents a key point in the city’s new strategic plan. This port-city has been developing over the past decade of post-war economy decrease a new interest for a cultural renaissance and finally, tourism.
In other parts, it is also a story about the post-socialist transition period in the country and this city, consisting of lots of fast decision-making towards the western Modernity and of long periods of waiting: for economic backups, for bureaucracy to follow through, for politics to kick in or fall out…
Most of all, it is a story that reveals a series of emotional truths of workers who worked most of their lives in the ex Rikard Benčič factory: their moving recounts about the “heroic” times of progress, friendship, equality and well being, which ended in the turmoil of the 1990s - war, national aptness, the fall of worker’s unions…
