The Liberal Democrats are a social liberal political party in the United Kingdom which supports constitutional and electoral reform,progressive taxation,wealth taxation,environmentalism, human rights laws,cultural liberalism,banking reform and civil liberties.

The party was formed in 1988 by a merger of the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party. The two parties had formed the electoral SDP–Liberal Alliance for seven years before then, since the SDP's formation. The Liberals had been in existence for 129 years and in power under leaders such as Gladstone, Asquith and Lloyd George.

Nick Clegg was elected Leader in 2007. At the 2010 general election, Liberal Democrats won 23% of the vote and 57 of the 650 seats, making them the third-largest party in the House of Commons, behind the Conservatives with 307 and Labour with 258. No party having an overall majority; the Liberal Democrats became the junior partners in a coalition government with the Conservatives, with Clegg becoming Deputy Prime Minister and other Liberal Democrats taking up ministerial positions.

David Anthony Laws (born 30 November 1965) is a British politician who has been the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Yeovil since 2001. He was briefly the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, holding office for 17 days in 2010 before resigning due to disclosure of his Parliamentary expenses claims, in consequence of which he was in due course suspended from Parliament by vote of the House of Commons.

After a career in investment banking, Laws became an economic adviser and later Director of Policy and Research for the Liberal Democrats. In 2001, he was elected as the MP for Yeovil, the seat previously represented by former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown.

In 2004, he co-edited The Orange Book: Reclaiming Liberalism, followed by Britain After Blair in 2006. After the 2010 general election, Laws led negotiations for the Liberal Democrats which resulted in a coalition with the Conservative Party.

Laws was born in Farnham, Surrey, the only son of a Conservative voting father who was a banker, and a Labour voting mother. He would later joke that he was the "perfect fusion" as a Liberal Democrat.

John Marwood Cleese (/ˈkliːz/; born 27 October 1939) is an English actor, comedian, writer and film producer. He achieved success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as a scriptwriter and performer on The Frost Report. In the late 1960s he became a member of Monty Python, the comedy troupe responsible for the sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus and the four Monty Python films: And Now for Something Completely Different, The Holy Grail, Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life.

In the mid 1970s, Cleese and his first wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote and starred in the British sitcom Fawlty Towers. Later, he co-starred with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis and former Python colleague Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures. He also starred in Clockwise, and has appeared in many other films, including two James Bond films as R/Q, two Harry Potter films and three Shrek films.

With Yes Minister writer Antony Jay he co-founded Video Arts, a production company making entertaining training films.

Jonathan Krohn (born March 1, 1995) is an American author who wrote the book Define Conservatism and gained national attention when he addressed the 2009 Conservative Political Action Conference at age 13. A resident of Duluth, Georgia, Krohn became interested in politics at age eight after hearing about a Democratic filibuster on judicial nominations in the United States Senate. In 2006, he was voted "Atlanta's Most Talented Child" by Inside Edition. Krohn used his savings to self-publish his book, in which he sought to outline core conservative principles.

Krohn convinced skeptical organizers to allow him to speak for three minutes at the CPAC event on February 27, 2009. His speech was very well received by the audience and later gained popularity on Internet websites like YouTube, garnering Krohn attention on national news programs on CNN and the Fox News Network. In 2009, he was a finalist for Time magazine's Time 100 for the year. His second book, Defining Conservatism: The Principles That Will Bring Our Country Back, was released on February 9, 2010.

Jonathan Lynn (born 3 April 1943 in Bath, Somerset, England) is an English actor, comedy writer and director. He is best known for being the co-writer of Yes Minister and Yes, Prime Minister.

Lynn was educated at Kingswood School, Bath, between 1954 and 1961, after which he studied Law at Pembroke College, Cambridge (where his uncle, Israeli statesman Abba Eban studied also). There he participated in the Cambridge University Footlights Club revue Cambridge Circus (appearing with the revue in 1964 on Broadway and on The Ed Sullivan Show).

In 1967, he played Motel the tailor in the original West End production of Fiddler on the Roof (production recorded by CBS Records).

From the late 1960s, Jonathan Lynn was appearing in and writing television sitcoms, including the television comedy series Twice a Fortnight with Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Tony Buffery.

He also played the Irish medical student Danny Hooley in the second series of the television comedy Doctor in the House in 1970 (Jonathan Lynn returned as Danny Hooley, for one episode of Doctor in Charge, "Should Auld Acquaintance be Forgot?", after Hooley had been working as a doctor). He also wrote some episodes for Doctor at Large, Doctor in Charge, Doctor at Sea and Doctor on the Go.
