U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), U.S. Air Forces Central Command (USAFCENT) and U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (USNAVCENT) are supporting the Bahrain International Air Show (BIAS) 2014. This year's BIAS 14, is scheduled for 16-18 January 2014 at Sakhir Air Base in Manama, Bahrain. It is anticipated this year's BIAS will attract up to 1,000 exhibitors from nearly 50 countries and more than 55,000 visitors. This year, the United States is showcasing a variety of our military aircraft through static displays, including the following: C-130J Hercules, F-15E Strike Eagle, F-18E/F Hornet, MV-22 Osprey, and UH-1Y Huey Venom, AH-1Z Viper and MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopters. The U.S. Air Force will also have a B-1 Lancer and F-22 Raptor flyby, but will not perform any aerial demonstrations. The aircrew and aircraft participating are all from locations in the CENTCOM AOR. The BIAS is an internationally acclaimed air show and is rapidly becoming a premier aviation and air industry event. This event is just one way the United States and its allies and partners work together to promote security, stability and mutual interests in the region. But out of sight, in Bahrain, another uprising is underway. Foreign journalists are banned from this island kingdom, but unknown to the ruling Khalifa family, one undercover crew were capturing the horrific carnage of a revolution forgotten by the world. BBC HARDtalk - Ala'a al Shehabi - Founding Member, Bahrain Watch (19/11/13)
Back in 2011 the small Gulf state of Bahrain seemed to be on the brink of tumultuous change. The ruling Al Khalifa family faced unprecedented street protests and demands for democratic reform. Bahrain's security forces cracked down hard - political battle lines between government and opposition were drawn. Two and a half years on, has the Bahraini monarchy learned lessons and weathered the storm? HARDtalk speaks to Ala'a al-Shehabi, an activist with the campaigning group Bahrain Watch. Is there a middle ground between the status quo and revolution? 'Night raids, torture, sham trials a daily reality in Bahrain' - human rights activist
In an Arab world swept away by revolutions and wars, few states have remained intact. And at what cost? Bahrain has seen protests, arrests and crackdowns on the opposition. Does stability necessarily mean political oppression in the Middle East? Why is Bahrain's trouble off international media's radar? We talk to human rights activist Maryam Alkhawaja, daughter of Bahrain's renowned dissident, Abdulhadi Alkhawaja, who is now in jail. Dramatic Video : Navy Security Captures Boat with Terrorists off Coast of Bahrain
Bahraini officials seized stocks of weapons, including some being smuggled in by sea, and defused a car bomb during two days of security raids in the restless Gulf nation, the country's public security chief said Monday. Authorities also announced the capture of a speedboat allegedly smuggling out 13 people, including one Saudi, wanted in connection with security cases in Bahrain. They were carrying passports, different types of currency, phones and personal belongings, according to a government statement. Bahrain is a small island kingdom off the coast of Saudi Arabia that hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet. More than 65 people have been killed in violence since protests led by the country's Shiite majority began in February 2011 calling for a greater political voice in the Sunni-ruled nation. Bahrain accuses Shiite powerhouse Iran of aiding the uprising. Tehran denies the accusations. "Bahrain is still facing systematic terrorism from many parties," government spokeswoman Sameera Rajab said. Public Security Chief Tareq al-Hassan said operations carried out Saturday and Sunday led to the seizure of plastic explosives, detonators, bombs, automatic rifles and ammunition. The weapons were found in a warehouse and onboard a boat intercepted as it was heading to the country, he said. Included in the cache discovered onboard the boat, which was first detected in international waters off Bahrain's northeastern coast, were "50 Iranian made hand bombs" and nearly 300 commercial detonators marked "Made in Syria," according to a government statement. Iran is the main regional backer of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government. The car bomb authorities dismantled was discovered in the busy central district of Hoora in the capital, Manama, the government said. While he did not specifically accuse Iran or members of the opposition of involvement, al-Hassan said the "fugitives said that they were heading to Iran." Anti-government factions in Bahrain have at times used homemade bombs. One blast Friday wounded two policemen, authorities said. Monday's announcement of the security operations comes two days after authorities summoned the head of the country's main Shiite opposition bloc, al-Wefaq, for questioning on allegations of incitement. Ali Salman was summoned to address comments he made in a sermon Friday that allegedly contained sectarian language, incited hatred against the government and promoted rioting and vandalism. He has since been released from custody but is barred from traveling abroad while prosecutors consider the case.- published: 01 Jan 2014

Photographer John Moore is no stranger to combat. As a member of an Associated Press team in 2005, he shared a Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography for coverage of the war in Iraq and he's done extended stints in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, South Africa, Mexico and Nicaragua and elsewhere in the last 20 years.
Yet despite his relative comfort with being on the frontlines, Moore told the NewsHour from his hotel room in Cairo that his latest assignment -a six-week trip that took him to the uprisings in Egypt, Bahrain and Libya - might have been his most dangerous. Moore recorded the interview for us after sneaking out of Benghazi, Libya en route back to his home in Denver.

Protesters Target Security Forces With Molotov Cocktails In Bahrain
The Bahraini uprising is a series of demonstrations, amounting to a sustained campaign of civil resistance, in the Persian Gulf country of Bahrain. The Bahraini uprising is one of the uprisings that started in 2011 as a part of the Arab Spring. Although the uprising in Bahrain even started before the conflict in Syria it is one of the few that gets media attention. Inspired by the successful uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, opposition activists starting from January 2011 filled the social media websites Facebook and Twitter as well as online forums, e-mails and text messages with calls to stage major pro-democracy protests. Bahraini youths described their plans as an appeal for Bahrainis "to take to the streets on Monday 14 February in a peaceful and orderly manner in order to rewrite the constitution and to establish a body with a full popular mandate". The protesters which are mainly Shia and are feeling discriminated in their own country for being Shia. Bahrain is ruled by a Sunni Khalifa with close ties to Saudi-Arabia. With a high unemployment in the country mostly among Shia youths the people have come together to remove the ruling party. Saudi-Arabia has claimed that Iran is behind the revolution in Bahrain but a report which was released on 23 November confirmed the Bahraini government's use of systematic torture and other forms of physical and psychological abuse on detainees, as well as other human rights violations. It also rejected the government's claims that the protests were instigated by Shia Iran. The report was criticized for not disclosing the names of individual abusers and extending accountability only to those who actively carried out human rights violations. By 2010, torture had become common and Bahrain's human rights record was described as "dismal" by Human Rights Watch. The Shia majority have long complained of what they call systemic discrimination. They accuse the government of naturalizing Sunnis from neighboring countries and gerrymandering electoral districts. The protest in Bahrain are still continuing and people are still protesting since 2011. Unlike Syria the Bahrainis have not picked up weapons to fight the government. But protests have been mainly peaceful. Although the government has been harsh on the protesters even calling in Saudi special units to keep the protesters down. Mostly youths have than chosen to protest in a less peaceful way by trowing rocks, Molotov cocktails, attacking police stations and closing roads by burning tires etc. Thousands of protesters have been arrested in the harsh crackdown by the government many have been sentenced long sentences which violate human right laws.- published: 08 Nov 2013
