A song originally recorded by the group
Lighthouse,
I believe the fellow that wrote this song was
Ronald Harry "
Skip" Prokop? I may have that wrong, but, I know he was in the group when they were recording and if I'm wrong please let me know.
During the preliminary video recording I had a chance to use the
Gibson Les Paul you see me playing on the guitar leads for this song. This guitar has made a circle. It was a guitar given to me by my wife and sons many
Father's
Days ago. My oldest son started learning to play guitar a couple years later when he was in
Middle School and headed into
High School, he started playing in a lot of bands so I gave him the
Les Paul to use. After High School he then went into college and was playing in even more bands. I had an opportunity to change some of the furnishings in my
Rehearsal/Recoding
Space, known as
Key Shop Productions, and I'd been able to get the furniture arranged after which I'd started working on
Step Out On
The Sea. One evening as I was working on all the background parts, I noticed a familiar worn Gig Bag with my other Gig
Bags and Hardshell
Guitar cases. It was so familiar but it wasn't one of my usual bags. When I opened it I was surprised to find the guitar that I'd given my son many years ago along side all of my guitars. I didn't hesitate, I pulled up the tracks and added one in for guitar and started recording using his guitar.
As I'd said, I had to rearranged my rehearsal space because I acquired a desk which can be seen in the background. I do music writing on this desk now, computer generated music programs, Nick-Nacks for background during videos, etc
.. It's functional. I was able to work on all the background vocals, bass guitar, violins, piano, organ etc. after the desk was in place but then we had a glitch occur in the house. I had been able to get a couple videos of me singing along with the song and playing guitar and some video of me doing the lead guitar so I'd be able to get an idea of how I wanted the finished video to go.
Unfortunately, I needed to rush the recording due to a leak in the water heater for the house, I'd have to move stuff that accumulated in the back section of the basement into the recording space to make room to move out the busted water heater and have enough room to work on the installation of the replacement.
This was not the first time I'd had a water heater leak in the basement of my house. About 18 years before this date I had been downstairs rehearsing and working on music, I hadn't started using the space for recording yet back then. It was late sometime around 1:00 am and I packed up my guitars for the night and put them up in the racks that I use to store them off the floor.
Thank God that night I didn't leave any out on Guitar Stands. I went to bed and when I got up the next morning for work at around 6:00 am (
Yes, I know, not much sleep) I discovered about ten to twelve inches of water through out the basement.
Don't know what time the leak started exactly, but I'm sure it didn't take long.
It's kind of
Ironic when you think of it. Here I was working in my basement on a song about
Jesus walking on water telling his
Apostles to believe in him and my water heater springs a leak that could have potentially damaged some very expensive equipment and instruments and not to mention damage in the house in general.
Funny part is that God gave me a warning a couple months back in October. The tank to the
Burner for the heat in my house also started leaking around the start of winter and I had to have that replaced before the first snow of the heating season of
2013/2014. Thank God that the water heater didn't burst during the night after I'd been down recording and having all my guitars and various other instruments damaged during a flood. One of the draw backs to
Home Recording, especially in a basement. Just call me
NOAH.
This is my version of the Lighthouse song "Step Out On The Sea."
