The Batsheva Dance Company (Hebrew: להקת בת שבע) is an internationally acclaimed dance company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was founded by Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva De Rothschild in 1964.
Batshva's inception was marked by Israel's growing interest in American modern dance, mainly Martha Graham and Anna Sokolow, and classes in Graham technique began being offered at the time. Some of these classes were taught by Rina Schenfeld and Rena Gluck, who were the company's principal dancers for many years. Bethsabee de Rothschild withdrew her funding in 1975, and the company began to gradually shed the Graham aesthetic that had dominated during the company's early years. It was during this transitional period that the company began to include the works of emerging Israeli choreographers into its repertory.
Soon after Ohad Naharin was appointed artistic director in 1990, he founded the youth company, Batsheva Ensemble, for dancers aged between 18 and 24. Its graduates include the choreographers Hofesh Shechter and Itzik Galili. The ensemble toured the United Kingdom and performed at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2012.

"Sacre" is a world premiere created by the multi-award winning Israeli choreographer Roy Assaf, to Stravinsky’s phenomenal The Rite of Spring. A refined and exquisite counterpart to the potent music, played by the Göteborg Opera Orchestra. Stravinsky depicts a brutal ritual in which a young person is selected as a sacrifice, performing a dance to the death as the music reaches a crescendo. Assaf will bring new meaning to the music while the men and women of the dance company will take turns in the sacrifice. Playful, vibrant and provocative. Profundis dares us to ask questions about what things are, and what they are not. Roy Assaf's thoughtful movement is accompanied by whimsical wordplay and an exotic soundtrack featuring Egypt's Umm Kulthum. “It’s about Profundis. I wake up and first things first
I'm of service
I make sure your needs are met, I'm so selfless
I give hard and serve hard and now I, I need a break
I give in, I give all and now it's time to degenerate
Chorus:
Today's all about me, all about how I'm feeling
Today's all about me learning how, how to receive
How to receive,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I move on through offerings, I found exciting
In this slow on list of words of understanding
I give hard, ṗrovide hard and now I need some relief
I look out, I prefer and now I need some respect and teed (?)
Chorus:
Today's all about me, all about how I'm feeling
Today's all about me learning how, how to receive
How to receive,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
My habit to love you first, in me it lingers
To renew it's only a joke, leaves me a stranger
I give hard and fight hard and now I need to retreat
I give out, dedicate and now I need to acknowledge me
Chorus:
Today's all about me, all about how I'm feeling
Today's all about me learning how, how to receive
How to receive,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
How to receive
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
How to receive
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
How to receive
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
