Plot
Historical drama centered on the famous Korean Admiral Yi Soon-Shin (1545-1598), who saved Korea and China from conquest by Japan in a string of brilliant naval victories. Yi used iron-clad war ships more than 260 years before the Battle of Hampton Roads in the US Civil War (the Monitor vs. the Virginia). The drama deals with his life from childhood to his death in the midst of his final victorious battle against the Japanese, and shows the contributions made by his support staff and ship's crews.

President Park is expected to announce a small Cabinet reshuffle today based on Lee′s recommendations. Lee Ji-yoon reports. Newly-elected Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo now holds the country′s second highest position. With him in place, President Park Geun-hye can focus on carrying out a Cabinet reshuffle and move forward with her policies aimed at economic revitalization and helping the working people. However, the main opposition party and the public speculate that Lee may become a vegetative prime minister... as many see him as unqualified for the job. Lee has been the third prime minister nominee since May. The first two nominees withdrew over allegations of ethical and other lapses. PRIME TIME NEWS 22:00 In the headlines... Korea now has a new prime minister. After much fierce political wrangling, former ruling party floor leader Lee Wan-koo takes the country′s number two job. Chinese and Japanese investors buy a near 7 billion dollars worth of Korean shares and bonds last year, an all-time high not seen since the 2009 global financial crisis. The European Union places sanctions on more Russians and Ukrainians,... accusing them of threatening Ukraine′s independence. These sanctions come just days after a ceasefire was announced in Ukraine. Primetime News begins now. Title: Prime minister Lee Wan-koo to face hurdles in pushing with state affairs Korea now has a new prime minister after much political wrangling over whether or not the nominee was fit for the job. However, Lee Wan-koo has a lot of hurdles to jump over as he takes on his new role, with the first one being,... winning back the public′s trust. Our Ji Myung-kil has this story for us tonight. Newly-elected Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo now holds the country′s second highest position. With him in place, President Park Geun-hye can focus on carrying out a Cabinet reshuffle and move forward with her policies aimed at economic revitalization and helping the working people. However, the main opposition party and the public speculate that Lee may become a vegetative prime minister... as many see him as unqualified for the job. Since his confirmation hearing last week, Lee has been under intense fire for allegations of ethical lapses including real estate speculation and draft dodging. Although Lee passed a parliamentary confirmation vote through overwhelming support from his ruling party members... he now bares some heavy responsibilities relating to state affairs. Prime Minister Lee will be tasked with reforming the pension system for civil servants, rooting out corruption among public officials and restructuring the labor market. Once the presidential office carries out a small reshuffle based on his recommendations, Lee will have to show his strength to control and lead the Cabinet. The new prime minister will also have to foster an atmosphere where the presidential office, the national assembly and the government can smoothly communicate with one another to better coordinate policies. The U.S. and Germany agree that a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis would be the best choice,... but U.S. President Obama hasn′t completely ruled out the option of supplying arms to Ukraine. Newsline at Noon begins now. Hello and welcome to the program. It′s a cold Tuesday here in Korea, and I′m Lee Ji-yoon in Seoul. Thanks for joining us today. I′m Mark Broome. Title: Prime Minister nominee Lee Wan-koo′s confirmation hearing begins Tuesday We begin over at the National Assembly today where the confirmation hearing for the nation′s prime minister nominee Lee Wan-koo began this morning. But it will be a tough ride for him as he faces a mounting series of allegations against him. Our National Assembly correspondent Park Ji-won is following the story. The two-day confirmation hearing for prime minister nominee Lee Wan-koo got underway at the National Assembly on Tuesday. Lee, the ruling Saenuri Party floor leader up until late last month, began by expressing his regret over a series of allegations against him that have piled up in recent weeks. "As I was preparing for this confirmation hearing,... I was once again reminded of how small and problematic I was. I bitterly regret my deficiencies." The 65-year old three-term lawmaker is facing a tough road ahead,... as the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy party has urged him to withdraw himself from consideration. That′s a turnaround from when the nomination was announced, as it was hailed at first by both parties. The amicable atmosphere changed amid allegations surrounding his past. These range from accusations of real estate speculation,.. to doubts about whether he and his son fulfilled their mandatory military service,... and a public outcry against his attempts to wield his influence over reporters,... behavior that he has since acknowledged as improper. The vote was postponed once last week after the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy refused to endorse the nominee and demanded he step down. In Korea, the prime minister is the second-highest position after that of president, but the job has been largely ceremonial,... as the power is heavily concentrated with the president. Prior to his confirmation, Lee was facing numerous allegations over various ethical lapses, including real estate speculation, draft dodging and allegations that he tried to stop the press from carrying negative reports about him. Spain has raised the minimum age of marriage from 14 to 16 in a move human rights groups hope will crack down on forced marriage and exploitation. Over-16s still need parental consent or judicial authorisation to wed as the legal marrying age in most cases is still 18. The change comes months after the government raised the age of consent for sexual relations from 13 to 16. Forced marriage happens when one or both people do not consent....
