Syria: Al-Qaeda's New Home
Three years ago, an uprising against the Assad regime turned into what looked like a straightforward civil war between Syrian government forces and rebels. However, over time, what had started as a largely secular opposition movement began to take on more of a radical Islamist tone, with two al Qaeda offshoots -- the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra -- becoming the dominant forces on the ground across the rebel-held North. One VICE filmmaker managed to secure unprecedented access to both al-Qaeda factions battling Syria's government forces, despite the risk of journalists being kidnapped. This is a remarkable portrait of the foreign volunteers and local Syrians willing to fight and die to establish a new caliphate on Europe's doorstep. Syria Civil War 2013 - Battlefield Syria: Heavy Fighting Clashes And Firefights. Heavy Fighting, Heavy Clashes and Intense Firefights. This pictures do we get if we look up the internet for Syria Videos. No war ever before was so well documented by alternatet sources like the Syrian Civil War. In 2013 there was such an high amount and flood of informations, pictures and videos about this conflict that it is impossible to cover them all up in just one video. This compilation brings back some famous scenes of the conflict that apeared on the net in 2013. It shows footage of the Syrian Army and also of the Syrian Rebells in HD. It dont seems like this storm of raw information will end in 2014 as there is still no end of the conflict in sign. Description and Timeline of the Happenings: 00:11-1:15 T72 oboard GoPro films Syrian Army Bmp driving on an IED during SAA Assault on Rebel held positions in Damascus. 1:15-2:44 T72 onboard GoPro films Rebel ambush on firendly T72 Tank wich results in the lost of one Tank. The View also switches to the rebel perspective and shows their view on the Tank Unit. 2:44-6:26 Al-Nusra Front in heavy intense urban fighting firefight action against government forces in Deir-eZ Zor. The Al-Nusra Front is a radical islamists group fighting to establish a religious state under the sharia law in Syria. 6:26-8:27 Members of the Islamic Front in heavy fighting against government forces in Eastern Ghouta during the rebel Ghouta Offensive. One of the Tanks repells with a heavy round. 11:13-12:44 Sunni Syrian Arab Army defectors who joined the ranks of the FSA in extreme heavy firefight during rebel assault on the Menagh Airport in Aleppo. The Airport was taken by militants of the Al-Nusra Front in August 2013. It was much discussed if the fighter seen in the Video are regular FSA rebels or radical militants from outside but according to their group behaviour, comunication and movement during the whole combat situation it is very likely that they are sunni ex-army members who defected to the Free Syrian Army. Also you can see a kuran lying in the dirt next to him. Radical islamists wouldnt do this because for them the kuran is to holy to let him lying on the ground. Also their accents where clearly identyfied to be strong Syrian Aleppo Accents wich means they are Syrians. 12:44-13:28 Syrian helicopter explodes in mid-air after beeing shot by rebel anti air missle in Idlib. 13:29-14:14 Syrian rebel T55 gets heavy hit during intense street fighting. 14:14-15:23 Rebels captured their assault on an army held checkpoint in Idlib with an Guncam attached to one of their fighters AKs. 15:23-16:52 Members of the Al-Nusra Front trying to storm the Kindi Hospital in Aleppo. 16:52-20:55 Syrian Army T72 onboard GoPro cams filming their attack on an rebel held neighbourhood of Damascus. 20:55-24:49 Syrian army in heavy firefight during heavy intense combat action in Darayya. 24:49-26:41 Al-Nusra militants in heavy clashes with the Syrian Army in the outskirts of the Al-Hawiqa District/Ahoigah neighborhood near the Jura bridge in Deir ez-Zor. 26:41-32:55 Syrian tanks attacking rebel controlled area together with infantry units in Al-Kabun. 32:55-34:56 Insurgents in clashes with government forces outside Idlib. 34:56-37:00 Free Syrian Army in heavy street fights with government forces in Idlib. 37:00-41:50 Heavy firefight and clashes between Al-Qaeda and Syrian rebels in Aleppo. 41:50-42:48 Syrian Insurgent uses Austrian Steyr AUG in streetfight action against regime forces. Rojava: Syria's Unknown War
Rojava: Syria's Unknown War
As Syria's bloody civil war enters its third year, fighting has reached the country's Kurdish-dominated northeast, a region until recently almost untouched by the conflict. The Kurdish PYD party and its YPG militia, which is affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in neighboring Turkey, took over control of much of Hassakeh province from the Assad regime in the summer of 2012, and with it control of Syria's precious oilfields. But the PYD's hopes of staying neutral in the conflict and building an autonomous Kurdish state were dashed when clashes broke out with Syrian rebel forces in the strategic border city of Ras al-Ayn. That encounter quickly escalated into an all-out war between the Kurds and a powerful alliance of jihadist groups, including the al-Qaeda affiliates ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra. In September of 2013, VICE crossed the border into Syria's Kurdish region to document the YPG's counteroffensive against the jihadists, who had struck deep into rural Hassakeh in an attempt to surround and capture Ras al-Ayn. With unparalleled access to the Kurdish and Syrian Christian fighters on the frontlines, we found ourselves witnessing a bitter and almost unreported conflict within the Syrian war, where the Assad regime is a neutral spectator in a life or death struggle between jihadist-led rebels and Kurdish nationalists, pitting village against village and neighbor against neighbor. Battle for Syria: Insider access to the bloody Syrian war alongside the rebels. For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=64417 Get to the heart of a dirty war of vigilante justice, rag-tag militias and indiscriminate violence: this is the stark reality of the Syrian frontline In a shot-out car a dead man lies across his wife in a hopeless attempt to save her. The rebels, led here by Abu Muhammad, a former army colonel, thought they had cleared the snipers from this area. But they were wrong. His men are immensely brave and committed, but also undisciplined: "The problem is they don't follow directions. If they follow 15% of the plan that's great!" With the government unwilling to engage in direct conflict with the rebels, for fear that those in the lower ranks will defect, snipers have become key to their strategy and leave a trail of dead bodies, young and old, in their wake. However, it's not just the government who are guilty of excesses. When the rebels capture a civilian trying to sell information to the army, they torture him for two hours, despite Abu Muhammad's assertion he will get a fair trial after the conflict. But Abu Muhammad has greater worries. His group are low on ammunition and believe they can only win through "casualties and a willingness to die". Their current "marriage of convenience" with Islamic fundamentalists also worries him. What will they do if they hijack the revolution? "The real battle for Syria begins after victory. We will fight anyone who tries to turn our country into an extreme Islamic state." Produced by Clover Films. Syria War - Heavy Clashes During Rebel Offensive Near The Israeli Border |Combat Documentary
Syria War - Heavy Clashes During Rebel Offensive Near The Israeli Border |Combat Documentary. Intense fighting and firefights during heavy clashes documented by Syrian Rebels. Syrian Rebels launched a offensive named The Dawn of Spring in the Qunaitra province near the Israeli border. Qunaitra is known for it's border crossing which is a ceasefire line between Syrian controlled territory and the Israeli-occupied portion of the Golan Heights. The Quneitra Governorate is one of the fourteen governorates (provinces) of Syria. It is situated in southern Syria, notable for the location of the Golan Heights and borders to Lebanon, Jordan and Israel. The governorate has a population of 87,000. The nominal capital is the now abandoned city of Quneitra. Much of the governorate was captured by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War and 1973 Yom Kippur War (called the October War in Arab countries) and now forms the contentious Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The Qunaitra Governorate, including a UN-observed neutral zone was subject to severe clashes between Syrian rebels and government troops since the begining of the Syrian civil war. Due to the Syrian opposition the offensive was a success. Several villages including Kerks, Suysa, Ain al-Tinah and Al-Qusaybah where captured by the rebels and some Syrian Army checkpoints including the Tell Al-Hara checkpoint where overrun by rebel forces. Also the rebels managed to capture some armored vehicles, ammunition and static weapons like an ZPU 23. The offensive was mainly launched by the Islamic Front, Kata'ib Masjid Muqadas and others but also a unknown ammount of foreign fighters and commanders was involved into the battle. Even if the rebels claim the offensive was a success The Syrian Army still has a strong presence in the area of Qunaitra and clashes are still going on. There are reports of heavy airstrikes on opposition positions and it is very possible the Syrian Arab Army launches a counteroffensive to regain the lost territory. Israel fears that it could soon be dragged into the neighboring country's civil war so Israeli troops along the border were on high alert, although the military said no special actions had been taken in response to the escalation. Israel fears that Islamic militants who have joined the rebel ranks in trying to oust President Bashar Assad will turn their guns toward Israel if they topple the Syrian leader. Islamic groups are believed to be active in the fighting in the Golan area. Israel has also expressed concerns that Assad's sophisticated weapons, could slip into the hands of hostile groups, including Assad's ally, Hezbollah. Israeli military officials said several errant shells landed in Israeli-controlled territory. Even Israeli officials say they have no interest in taking sides or getting involved in the fighting, the military has intervened on several occasions, firing at targets inside Syria in response to shelling that landed in the Israeli-side of the Golan. The Israeli air force has also carried out several airstrikes in recent months on weapons shipments believed to be headed to Hezbollah. Fighting between Assad's forces and mainly Sunni rebels has already spilled over Syria's borders into Turkey and Lebanon, where factions that support opposing sides have frequently clashed. The man, Dutch-Turkish dual national, named Yilmaz wears his Dutch Army uniform while training foreign fighters from Europe and all over the world. Roozbeh Kaboly, foreign editor of the Dutch National TV program Nieuwsuur (NewsHour) found Yilmaz on his social media page (Instagram) 8 months ago. It took Yilmaz a long time to trust Kaboly and accept to give an interview. In the beginning he even denied that he was from the Netherlands. As it's not safe for reporters in Syria and extremist fighters target them, Nieuwsuur asked an intermediary to do the interview.- published: 27 Jan 2014

Syrian Civil War 2014 - Islamic Front In Heavy Clashes In Aleppo's Southern Countryside |Syria War. Heavy Fighting, Firefights and Clashes between the Islamic Front and government troops supportet by shia hizbollah militias are still going on on a daily basis in Aleppo's Southern Countryside. Fierce battles have taken place between Syrian Army and the Islamic battalions around al-Nairab airport in Aleppo countryside, as a result, the Syrian Army claims to have managed to advance and regain control on al-Hneifeh area. As a result he Aleppo International Airport was targeted by the Islamic Front with Grad Rockets. The Islamic Front itself claims to have made major advances to break the siege of Aleppo´s Marjah district by regaining full control over the villages of Al Aziza and Sheik Lutfi by clearing it from shia hizbollah presence that is using a new type of probably iranian reconnaissance drones. This drones can bee seen in the video around the 1:57 minute mark. There are also reports of Syrian Air Force Helicopters dropping barrel bombs on rebel held areas. The Islamic Front started to use captured regime howitzers to shoot down these helicopters as you can see around 6:06 even if this tactic inst particularly promising. During their assault in Aziza the Islamic Front managed to bomb a builing inwich Shiite militias where stationed. The builing was totaly destroyed and many causalitys on the Shiite militia site where reported. The Attack was mainly held out by former members of the Ahrar ash-Sham Brigade and the so called Army of the Mujahideen but more islamic movements where involved in the fight. The Islamic Front is a merger of seven rebel groups involved in the Syrian civil war that was announced on 22 November 2013. With about 40.000 - 60.000 fighters the Islamic Front is one of the most strongest rebel fraction in the Syrian Civil War 2014. Since 2014 there haven been also reports of fierce clashes between the Islamic Front and members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant in the same area around Aleppo's Southern Countryside so all in all the situation on the frontline isnt clear and it is hard to tell who is dominating the battlefield at this time because as said before the fighting goes on on a daily basis and the situation can change every hour. FSA Rebels Heavy Firefights In Different Locations In Syria
The Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Syria has rejected a proposal by Russia to place Syria's chemical weapons under international control. FSA military commander General Selim Idriss made the announcement in a video message posted on YouTube on Thursday. "The Free Syrian Army announces its categorical rejection of the Russian initiative that foresees placing chemical weapons under international control," Idriss stated. He called on countries supporting the militancy against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to increase the supply of arms to the militants. The so-called Syrian National Coalition (SNC) opposition group also rejected the Russian proposal - which was immediately embraced by many countries - calling it a "political maneuver aimed at buying time." The Washington Post recently reported that the United States has begun delivering weapons to foreign-backed militants in Syria. The report says that the CIA and the US Department of States began shipping weapons through Turkey and Jordan. On September 9, Idriss called for a US-led strike against Syria during an interview with Qatar's state-run broadcaster Al Jazeera, accusing Damascus of lying about accepting the Russian proposal. The Syrian government has welcomed Russia's initiative. The rhetoric of war against Syria first gained momentum on August 21, when the militants operating inside the country and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed that over a thousand people had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds on the outskirts of Damascus. Categorically rejecting the accusation, the Syrian government blames the militants and says they had carried out the attack to draw in military intervention.- published: 13 Sep 2013

British Nationals Fight with al Qaeda in Syria
VICE NEWS exclusive footage and interviews with British nationals fighting with al Qaeda in Syria. Yesterday, MI5 Director-General Andrew Parker announced that hundreds of British Muslims have travelled to Syria to take part in "terrorist tourism". Today, we present exclusive video footage and interviews with British nationals fighting with al Qaeda in Syria. In the film, two young men with British accents echo the sentiments expressed by Lee Rigby's killer Michael Adebolajo and declare jihad against the UK and United States. "I say to the United States that your time will come," says one of the men, who gives his age as 26, "and we will bleed you to death and, Inshallah, shall raise a flag in the White House." The second jihadist calls on the British public to rise up against the government: "Like the guy in Woolwich, he explained that David Cameron would never walk on the street, and he'll never get shot in the face, whereas you guys who are soldiers, or just normal folk, will take the blame for the crimes that are committed worldwide, by Britain itself, so we have to fight." The film also shines a light on the communication difficulties that arise when radicalised extremists from Britain, France, Chechnya, Bosnia, Kosovo and Turkey, among other countries, get together to fight on the front line. Ground Zero Syria (Part 11): The Illegal Oil Wells of Deir ez-Zor
Deir ez-Zor, Syria's sixth-largest city, is also the country's oil capital. For four decades, the al-Assad regime (first run by Hafez, and now by his son Bashar) struck deals with Western oil companies like Shell and Total that resulted in the extraction of as much as 27,000 barrels of black gold from the sand every day. A pittance compared with other Middle Eastern countries' production, but it made Syria a bona fide oil-exporting nation. At least this was the case until international sanctions were imposed in 2011 in response to the regime's crackdown on the antigovernment protests, which quickly morphed into a civil war. Syria War - On The Frontline In The Battle For Eastern Ghouta |Syrian Civil War Documentary
Syria War - Heavy Clashes On The Frontline In The Battle For Eastern Ghouta Syrian Civil War Documentary. Heavy Clashes, Fighting and Firefights on the frontline of eastern Damascus countryside as the Rebels launched a big offensive under the banner of the Islamic Front against regime strongholds in the area. The Islamic Front has a strenght of about 45.000 men and is one of the biggest and most strongest rebel fighting groups in Syria together with the Al-Nusra Front. The group has no ties with the Free Syrian Army or the Syrian National Concil and all members are seeing the battlefield in the Syrian Civil war as a chance to establish a religious state under the sharia law in the region. The Islamic Front is a merger of seven rebel groups involved in the Syrian civil war who joined their forces together in November 2013. The Groups fighting here in the Video are mainly former members of Ahrar al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam) but more groups where involved in the fight. It is unknown how much fighters were involved in this battle but monitoring groups have spoken of thousands of fighters working together to retake the Ghouta. Fierce fighting has erupted since last month to the east of Damascus as Syrian rebels struggle to break a months-long blockade by the Syrian forces. The fighting began on mid November when rebel units attacked a string of military checkpoints encircling the opposition-held suburbs in Eastern Ghouta, which has been under siege for more than six months. The Rebels claim the Operation was a sucsess with about 800 enemy fighters killed, 23 armed vehicles destroyed, 44 seized and the liberation of several villages that are stretched over an area of 40 Km. The towns liberated where Deir Salmon, Qasamiyah, Otayabah and Al Sheeka. Also they managed to end the media blackout in the area. The Syrian army also begun to start a counteroffensive against rebel forces and the Syrian air force started to conduct several airstrikes on rebel held positions in the area. The Ghouta region is part of the capital Damascus eastern countryside wich makes it important for goverment forces to retake full control over the area to prevent more clashes and fightings in the capital itself. The rebel offensive was one of the last bigger offensives in syrias civil war in 2013. For more information and downloads visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=65858 Their lives have been torn apart, but female photographer Nour and FSA leader Mowya are determined to continue to fight the Assad regime. This powerful and tragic film gets startlingly close to their struggle. A little girl is singing straight to the camera during a street gathering when a mortar strikes just a few metres behind her, throwing the innocent scene into bloody chaos. This is not a dramatically staged fiction film, but the reality of daily life in Syria. "Somebody has to know what this monster is doing to us, to his own people. I'm making sure that somebody is going to know," says Nour. Aged 24, she has abandoned her teaching job to become a war photographer. "I'm not afraid of death", she says. "So many girls have died in their kitchen." The memory of her friends who have died or been tortured and raped during the conflict strengthens Nour's determination to continue the fight. She firmly believes, "we're going to build this whole country again from scratch". Walking through the destroyed and abandoned streets of Aleppo, charismatic FSA leader Mowya manages to retain a dark humour. "Maybe if you film some cats and put it on YouTube a million people will watch the video. Maybe the Americans will help the cats. They don't care about people."
