We are in the engine room of the tugboat Resolute, which is owned by McAllister Towing, where we see the dual Roots Blown EMD 12-645 E6 engines as they are started up. Once the engines are started, the engineer hits the lay-shaft a bit to give a bit of throttle to the engines. Once the engines have started, we get a quick look around the engine room and then head above to the main deck, where we see the Almon Johnson single drum towing winch, then head outside to the bow. Once at the bow, we take a look at the other tugboats around us, as well as the exterior of the wheelhouse of the Resolute. On this day, we are heading for the 21st running of the Great North River Tugboat Race. The race itself will be seen in the next video, as well as the ensuing tugboat pushing competitions. Here is a little history of the Resolute, as seen on tugboatinformation.com: Built in 1975, by Jakobson Shipyard of Oyster Bay, New York (hull #454) as the Resolute for the Providence Steamboat Company of Providence, Rhode Island. She was the second tug to bare the name for the Providence Steamboat Company. In 2006, the Providence Steamboat Company was acquired by McAllister Towing and Transportation of New York, New York. Where the Resolute and her sister the Reliance retained their names. The tug is powered by two EMD 12-645 E6 with two Falk reduction gears at ratio of 4.08:1 turning two 104(in) by 81(in) fixed pitch propellers for a rated 3,000 horsepower. Her capacities are 30,000 gallons of fuel oil, 500 gallons of lube oil and 2,200 gallons of potable water. The tug's towing gear consists of an Almon Johnson single drum towing winch equipped with 1,200' (ft) of 1 1/2(in) towing wire.
