"Diplomacy has delivered the U.S. and Iran from the brink of a disastrous war and placed the two countries at the beginning of a brighter, more sustainable path forward," president of the National Iranian American Council, Trita Parsi, said after the deal was reached on Sunday in Geneva. As part of the agreement aimed at capping Iran's nuclear program, Iran will get access to $4.2 billion in foreign exchange. In Los Angeles' heavily Iranian Westwood District, residents and shoppers weighed in on the agreement. [Bahadori Fariboiz]: "I'm very glad about it, I hope everything goes well because I was afraid for a while that something major is going to come up in the Middle East. I hope that we'll be at peace from now on and everybody will be happy just living in peace, that's all." Others were suspicious of the new agreement. [Bahadori Fariboiz]: "As an originally Persian person, I don't trust the government that they're putting anything on hold. There are so many locations that they're doing what they're doing and this is just wasting time. If the Western world wants to help the people of Iran, they should just stop it completely." The West feared that Iran had been seeking to develop a nuclear weapons capability. The Islamic Republic denies that, saying its nuclear program is a peaceful energy project. Tehran is to limit its nuclear energy program in exchange for initial relief from international trade and financial sanctions.
