BJP hits out at Rahul's comments on 2002, says Modi got clean chit
A day after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi hit out at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the 2002 pogrom, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that his statements are baseless. "Rahul's statements against Gujarat riots are baseless. He is trying to run away from the truth. If the SIT can give a report saying BJP is not at fault for that incident, how can he say otherwise?," Prasad said. He also said that Rahul has no answer for corruption and UPA's poor governance. "The interview of Rahul Gandhi makes it clear that Rahul Gandhi has no answer for the corruption, inflation and failure of his government," he said.- published: 28 Jan 2014

Rahul took suggestions from Panchayat members on what needs to be included in the manifesto with respect to rural areas. Addressing people ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rahul referred to democracy as the most powerful and important weapon. He also said that the Congress will decide its candidates for the 15 Lok Sabha seats in the state based on the inputs from leaders of local bodies. The villagers offered various suggestions to Rahul for Congress's poll manifesto. While some asked for more power to Panchayat chair persons to reduce corruption, the others stressed on the need to centralise all Panchayat related work at one office. Education, eradication of corruption and more power for women were the three important issues raised by most of the people at the meet. The meet saw people coming in from various walks of life and various parts of India. A Congress worker from North East praised the party but blamed the government officials for not implementing many of its welfare schemes. A young woman Panchayat member from a village near Pakistan border in Rajasthan also suggested that educated people should run Panchayats. Rahul is touring India to seek suggestions from people from all walks of life for the party manifesto. Earlier this week, he took part in a meeting of women's representatives from various sections to be organised by All-India Mahila Congress in Bhopal. The meeting took place as a part of preparation of party's manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. A number of prominent women and representatives of self-help groups also took part in the meeting. Rahul took the issue of gender inequality and promised to take up womens reservation. He said, "If women are empowered, she can bring the change. Every women is an asset in this country. We do not want to be a super power if we are not able to empower our women." Rahul said that the manifesto of the Congress party will have the suggestions of people. He said, "We will ask all sections of the society to give their suggestions for Congress manifesto. The sensible suggestions shall be incorporated and will be implemented when we form the government."- published: 28 Jan 2014

Amethi: AAP trumps Rahul, builds roof over Dalit woman's home
In yet another political move, the Aam Aadmi Party helped in the construction of the roof of the house of a Dalit woman in Amethi, that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had visited in the year 2008. The AAP has helped contruct the roof of the house of Sunita Devi. Her house was burned down after Rahul spent a night there in 2008. This came after AAP leader Kumar Vishwas visited Sunita Devi's house after CNN-IBN reported her plight earlier in January. Vishwas is likely to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Rahul Gandhi's bastion Amethi.- published: 27 Jan 2014

Breaking News: Arun Jaitely slams Rahul Gandhi's defence in 1984 riots case - NewsX
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley on Friday came down heavily on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for saying that Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government "abetted and pushed" 2002 riots. Jaitley's reaction comes a day after Rahul in his first interview after a gap of 10 years, held BJP government responsible for the Gujarat riots. Rahul said: "The fact of the matter is that innocent people died in 1984 and innocent people dying is a horrible thing and should not happen. The difference between Gujarat and 1984 was that the government of Gujarat was involved in the riots." Taking on Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said Gujarat government was involved in 2002 riots. Rahul defended the Congress government for 1984 riots and said, "Gujarat government was involved in 2002 riots while Congress government tried to stop 1984 riots." At the same time, he said that, "Some Congress men were probably involved in 1984 riots, legal process is on." To questions whether he would apologise for the 1984 riots and whether he felt that there was no need for it, Gandhi said, "First of all, I wasn't involved in the riots at all. It wasn't that I was a part of it." Rahul under fire over his remark on 1984 riots, Modi's role in 2002
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has come under sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party and 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims after he claimed that the Congress government at the Centre tried to control the communal carnage after the then prime minister Indira Gandhi's assassination in an interview to Time Now news channel on Tuesday. He openly criticised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for abetting 2002 riots. BJP leaders launched a scathing attack on Rahul for not apologising for 1984 riots. The BJP pointed out that Modi had been given a clean chit by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and hence accusing him of the same was baseless and did not make any sense.- published: 28 Jan 2014
