The Age Bomb: Japan's Aging Crisis
Japan's aging population is causing a looming crisis. How is the world's most innovative nation preparing for the future? For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=66174&bid;=2 More than a quarter of Japanese people are over 65 and the number is rising. Soon more than 100 other nations will face a similar problem. Can they learn from the Japanese approach to their ageing demographic? It's estimated that by 2015 there will be 2.5 million Japanese with senile dementia and as Japan becomes an increasingly urban population, its cities are struggling to cope. In Tokyo a scheme to keep the elderly active with part time jobs is proving a hit. "I have no experience of working in a nursery, but this work is pleasant and useful", says 77-year-old Rie. "If most people work until 75 and pay tax, we can support them and it makes people healthier", argues Professor Akiyama, who runs the scheme. Cia Silver- published: 11 Nov 2013

This Day is Ours
This is a very happy, upbeat piece, shiny and bright.
Coming of Age Day is a national holiday in Japan, as it should be! Here you will find lots of lovely kimonos and communal celebrations, palpable excitement in the air.
This film is about that feeling of being young. And yes, it is about getting hammered.
The edit took longer than expected -haven't slept yet- but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Guaranteed to lift your spirits.
I am indebted to the fun loving reunion class of a certain middle school, who were taken by surprise, but up for a bit of filming when accosted out of the blue. I hope this makes some good memories for you guys! XX学校卒の皆様、先日はどうもありがとうございました。このビデオは短いですが、現場の楽しく激しい雰囲気をもう一度楽しんでください!
*This is film #8 in my Daily Film Project. Please take a look -> http://vimeo.com/channels/dailyfilmproject

Yakuza Documentary "The Lion of Ginza" New Trailer
This is the trailer for a new Yakuza documentary coming out soon, "The Lion of Ginza" is a working title.
Please also check out my Facebook page for more info, Yakuza pics, etc:
http://www.facebook.com/YakuzaDoc?ref=hl
Short synopsis:
The Yakuza, Japan's organized crime syndicates, are a dying breed. Their members are aging and the government of Japan has launched a large-scale crackdown on them to eradicate them once and for all. But who are the Yakuza? The cancer of a nation or a necessary evil in a country with one of the lowest crime rates in the industrialized world?
This documentary deals with the struggle of the Yakuza for its survival and the restructuring of the organized crime scene in Japan. Furthermore, unprecedented access to the secret world of the Yakuza gives you an insight on who the Yakuza really are: criminals, outcasts, but also family men and a part of Japanese society.
After a long period of research, I was about to give up on this project, but then, out of the blue, things changed with the earthquake in 2011 and opportunities arose. It all happened very suddenly, so there was no time to pitch it anywhere and get the necessary funds, so I took a chance and produced it on my own, using my own money and time, cancelling my other jobs, etc. Now I'm looking for production companies/ TV channels to produce the doc. Shooting is already completed (HD, 25fps, can have a few additions in case) and a rough cut is also already done, which I could show to you in case you're interested (sorry, no private persons, only companies).
The biggest difference between this Yakuza documentary and others that have been done before, is that it all plays on a very personal level, it is more of a character study of the main characters (who all seem like out of a Quentin Tarantino movie) then a investigative piece. But through this unprecedented level of access to the private world and thinking of the Yakuza, you will get a far more clear and detailed picture on who the Yakuza really are, then with the usual "looking down from the top" journalism, which always goes in the same direction. This is also how I got this kind of access, by not looking down on them, but by trying to get accepted as one of their own, as far as this is possible.
For further information, if you are interested in this project and any kind of co-operation, please send me a mail to my vimeo account (only companies please).
Cheers,
Sebastian
