The list of Top Ten Naval Forces in the World puts into account serviced and active warships. Top three naval forces in the world: United States with 12% of all active naval ships; Russia comes in second with 10% and China third with 8%. More emphasis on these rankings is put on the country’s warships than navy personnel. Training vessels, supply vessels, research vessels and other non-weaponry ships are not included. Naval personnel only include active men and women, and not naval reserves. Anti-Mines places into account minehunters and minesweepers for the countries involved. Missile Submarines are equipped with (BM) ballistic missiles and Attack/Assault Submarines with (CR) cruise missiles. The list is made up of the following Warships:

The 2nd oldest battlefield on earth -the sea- pushes the need for leading military powers to field a strong, capable navy.
For thousands of years, strength at sea has been one of the defining military factors for any world power. Naval strength is used to respond to territory disputes as well as enforce maritime borders and protect national interests. Today s navies are often required to operate thousands of mile away from homeports with combat not necessarily requiring line-of-sight. Couple these qualities with the expansive reach of carrier aircrafts, naval helicopters and UAVs and the oceans become a lethal battlefield all their own.

Even though there was only one major naval battle in the Atlantic during World War 1, the navies played a huge role during the entire conflict. From troop transports to supplies and from unrestricted submarine warfare to the landing at Gallipoli: The life of a sailor in the Great War was dangerous. And it wasn't just the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea was full of navies and battle ships. Especially fairly new ship types like the submarine or the Dreadnought were a force to be reckoned with.

Navy
A navy or maritime force is a fleet of waterborne military vessels (watercraft) and its associated naval aviation, both sea-based and land-based. It is the branch of a nation's armed forces principally designated for naval and amphibious warfare; namely, lake-borne, riverine, littoral, or ocean-borne combat operations and related functions. It includes anything conducted by surface ships, amphibious ships, submarines, and seaborne aviation, as well as ancillary support, communications, training, and other fields; recent developments have included space-related operations. The strategic offensive role of a navy is projection of force into areas beyond a country's shores (for example, to protect sea-lanes, ferry troops, or attack other navies, ports, or shore installations). The strategic defensive purpose of a navy is to frustrate seaborne projection-of-force by enemies. The strategic task of the navy also may incorporate nuclear deterrence by use of Submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Naval operations can be broadly divided between riverine and littoral applications (brown-water navy), open-ocean applications (blue-water navy), and something in between (green-water navy), although these distinctions are more about strategic scope than tactical or operational division.

For thousands of years, strength at sea has been one of the defining military factors for any world power. Naval strength is used to respond to territory disputes as well as enforce maritime borders and protect national interests. Today s navies are often required to operate thousands of mile away from homeports with combat not necessarily requiring line-of-sight. From troop transports to supplies and from unrestricted submarine warfare to the landing at Gallipoli: The life of a sailor in the Great War was dangerous. And it wasn't just the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea was full of navies and battle ships. Especially fairly new ship types like the submarine or the Dreadnought were a force to be reckoned with.
