The Hanseatic City of Lübeck is the second-largest city in Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany, and one of the major ports of Germany. Situated on the river Trave, it was for several centuries the "capital" of the Hanseatic League ("Queen of the Hanse") and, because of its Brick Gothic architectural heritage, is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Much of the old town has kept a medieval appearance with old buildings and narrow streets. At one time the town could only be entered via any of four town gates, of which today two remain, the well-known Holstentor (1478) and the Burgtor (1444). The old town centre is dominated by seven church steeples. The oldest are the Lübecker Dom (the city's cathedral) and the Marienkirche (Saint Mary's), both from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Elburg is a medieval town and was recorded as a member of the Hanseatic League in 1367.
The old part of Elburg has preserved its character as a fortified town, with town walls, bastions and casemates and streets laid out on a regular grid. The Vispoort, one of the old town gates at the harbor with old style boats, was built in 1397 and rebuilt in 1592. It now houses the Fisheries Museum which documents the story of fishing in the Zuiderzee.
The close off of the Zuiderzee in 1932 meant an end to the fishing industry of Elburg

Elburg is a medieval town and was recorded as a member of the Hanseatic League in 1367.
The old part of Elburg has preserved its character as a fortified town, with town walls, bastions and casemates and streets laid out on a regular grid. The Vispoort, one of the old town gates at the harbor with old style boats, was built in 1397 and rebuilt in 1592. It now houses the Fisheries Museum which documents the story of fishing in the Zuiderzee.
The close off of the Zuiderzee in 1932 meant an end to the fishing industry of Elburg

The Hanseatic League (also known as the Hanse or Hansa; Low German: Hanse, Dudesche Hanse, Latin: Hansa, Hansa Teutonica or Liga Hanseatica) was an economic alliance of trading cities and their merchant guilds that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe. It stretched from the Baltic to the North Sea and inland during the Late Middle Ages and early modern period (c. 13th–17th centuries).
The League was created to protect commercial interests and privileges granted by foreign rulers in cities and countries the merchants visited. The Hanseatic cities had their own legal system and furnished their own protection and mutual aid. Despite this, the organization was not a city-state, nor can it be called a confederation of city-states; only a very small number of the cities within the league enjoyed autonomy and liberties comparable to those of a free imperial city.
The legacy of the Hansa is remembered today in several names, for example the German airline Lufthansa (i.e., 'Air Hansa'), F.C. Hansa Rostock, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, in the Netherlands, and the Hansa Brewery in Bergen.

Jonathan Turner Meades (born 21 January 1947) is a British writer on food, architecture, and culture, as well as an author and broadcaster. He is an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society and a Distinguished Supporter of the British Humanist Association.
Meades was born in Salisbury Wiltshire, and educated at King's College, an independent school in the market town of Taunton in Somerset. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1968.
Meades wrote reviews and articles for The Times for many years, and was specifically the restaurant critic of The Times newspaper between 1986 and 2001. He was voted Best Food Journalist in the 1999 Glenfiddich Awards. Having given up food writing in 2001 after being the Times restaurant critic for 15 years in an interview with Restaurant magazine, Meades estimated that he put on 5 lb a year during his reviewing period, which works out around an ounce per restaurant. By his own admission in the series Meades Eats, after being pronounced 'morbidly obese' he subsequently managed to lose a third of his body weight over the course of a year.
