The Drugs Song - Amateur Transplants
Drs Adam Kay and Suman Biswas (aka the Amateur Transplants) have created a parody of Tom Lehrer's comic song "The Elements" changing the lyrics to drugs instead. "The Elements" is in turn a parody of Gilbert & Sullivan's "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General" from "The Pirates of Penzance", so this song has had quite some going over! Anyway, The Drugs Song has no official video so here's my attempt to bring this brilliant song into the visual medium! Enjoy! If you enjoy this you may also like my other Amateur Transplants videos, listed below, or on my Channel! PS Yes, I know Lithium is said twice; yes, I know some of these are synonyms; yes, I misspelled Pethidine. I should know better - I've seen it! Want to learn this song? The lyrics are below! Adam and Suman have too much free time for doctors... There's aspirin, adrenaline and also aminophylline, Amphetamine, adenosine, augmentin and rifampicin, Amoxicillin, penicillin, heparin and warfarin, And oestrogen, progestagen and Canesten and chloroquine. There's bendroflumethiazide and also cyclophosphamide, And metoclopramide, acetazolamide, tropicamide Loperamide, amiloride and cyclizine and frusemide, And if you're up the duff then you'd best avoid thalidomide. There's lithium, fluoxetine and also amitriptyline, Paroxetine, digoxin, GTN and azathioprine, Miconazole, atenolol and also chloramphenicol, And if you want to overdose, there's always paracetamol. There's Night Nurse and there's phenytoin, Zirtek and ...

SureDose
www.pediatech.com Most of the drugs in ready-to-use oral pharmaceutical suspensions exist as undissolved particles, requiring adequate shaking of the container to resuspend the drug uniformly before dosing. A suspension that has settled should easily redisperse by shaking. It should also remain suspended long enough and should have the desired flow properties to yield accurate doses. Some drugs are difficult to formulate as oral suspensions. Such is the case of rifampicin. Oral suspensions of rifampicin are known to be physically unstable as manifested by rapid settling and caking of the rifampicin particles. This caking causes dose uniformity problems due to incomplete drug redispersion despite vigorous shaking. To address the physical stability problem encountered with oral rifampicin suspensions, PediaTech® developed SureDose®. In contrast to traditional suspensions, there is no settling, no packing and no caking of drug particles on storage. Also, the bottle needs to be shaken only before the first dose. There is no need to shake again for up to 60 days. The patient is therefore assured of the correct drug dose spoon-for-spoon. The superior physical stability and excellent drug uniformity in SureDose® is attributed to three important elements: - Liquid that closely matches the density of the drug particle - Polymer with a yield value that holds the drug particles in suspension - Micronized drug Optimally combined, these elements work synergistically to give a superior ...

World Tuberculosis Day 24 March 2009.mp4
Tuberculosis (TB) is a common and often deadly infectious disease caused by mycobacterium, usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis in humans. Tuberculosis usually attacks the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body. It is spread through the air, when people who have the disease cough, sneeze, or spit. Most infections in humans result in an asymptomatic, latent infection, and about one in ten latent infections eventually progresses to active disease, which, if left untreated, kills more than half of its victims. The classic symptoms are a chronic cough with blood-tinged sputum, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. Infection of other organs causes a wide range of symptoms. Diagnosis relies on radiology, a tuberculin skin test, blood tests, as well as microscopic examination and microbiological culture of bodily fluids. Treatment is difficult and requires long courses of multiple antibiotics. Contacts are also screened and treated if necessary. Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem in multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis. Prevention relies on screening programs and vaccination, usually with Bacillus Chalmette Guerin vaccine.A third of the world's populations are thought to be infected with M. tuberculosis, and new infections occur at a rate of about one per second. The proportion of people who become sick with tuberculosis each year is stable or falling worldwide but, because of population growth, the absolute number of new cases is still increasing. In 2007 there ...

The Village of Leprosy aka Korah ገብረ ክርስቶስ መንደር
በተለምዶ የቆማጦች ሠፈር Leprosy or Hansen's disease (HD), is a chronic disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. Named after physician Gerhard Armauer Hansen, Leprosy is primarily a granulomatous disease of the peripheral nerves and mucosa of the upper respiratory tract; skin lesions are the primary external sign. Left untreated, leprosy can be progressive, causing permanent damage to the skin, nerves, limbs and eyes. Contrary to folklore, leprosy does not cause body parts to fall off, although they can become numb and/or diseased as a result of infection. Although the mode of transmission of Hansen's disease remains uncertain, most investigators think that M. leprae is usually spread from person to person in respiratory droplets.[6] The minimum incubation period reported is as short as a few weeks and this is based on the very occasional occurrence of leprosy among young infants. The maximum incubation period reported is as long as 30 years, or over, as observed among war veterans known to have been exposed for short periods in endemic areas but otherwise living in non-endemic areas. It is generally agreed that the average incubation period is between three and five years. Leprosy is now known to be neither sexually transmitted nor highly infectious after treatment. Approximately 95% of people are naturally immune and sufferers are no longer infectious after as little as 2 weeks of treatment. Leprosy has affected humanity ...

GeneXpert Training in Vietnamese
The GeneXpert system (Cepheid, Sunnyvale, California) is a closed and fully automated system designed to provide real-time polymerase chain reaction results in real time. This is a self-contained all-in one syestem for the extraction, amplification and detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) complex from clinical specimens and is able to provide the results within 2 hours. The Xpert MTB/RIF assay simultaneously detects MTB and Rifampicin (Rif) resistance through automated extraction, amplification and detection on a single system. PCR assay amplifies a 192-bp segment of the M.tuberculosis rpoB gene in a heminested real-time PCR. MTB and Rif resistance are detected by using two sets of primers and five overlaping molecular beacon probes (probes A to E). The amplified product is then detected by the Fluorescent probes that are complemenary to the entire 81-bp RIF resistance-determining "core" region of the wild type rpoB gene. So, there is one or more probes do not bind, this indicates the presence of a mutation, Rif resistance. The system is provide with two internal controls ie a "Sample Processing Control (SPC) consisting of spores from Bacillus globigii, to ensure adequate processing of the sample as well as to monitor the presence of PCR inhibitors and another one is a "Probe Check Control (PCC) verifies reagent rehydration, PCR tube filling in the cartridge, probe integrity and dye stability. These two controls enhance the reliability of the results.

Need for new drugs for TB
TB - The need of new drug. (14th Nov, 2012) TB is a curable infection that affects more than 2 billion people across the globe annually, claiming almost 1.4 million lives. It is estimated that TB claims one life every 20 seconds around the globe. In India alone, over 1000 lives succumb to TB everyday (2 deaths every 3 minutes). Existing TB treatment makes use of combinatorial therapy involving 4 medicines (Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Ethambutol, Pyrazinamide) and is administered for a period of 6 to 9 months under the direct observation of a physician (DOTS). These drugs were discovered in the middle of 20th century. The treatment regimen is too long and risk prone and the inadequate administration of existing treatment has resulted in the emergence of MDR (multiple drug resistant) TB and XDR (extremely drug resistant) TB. The emergence of drug resistant cases of TB, and lack of any new drugs since past 60 years, demands the discovery of more effective, novel drugs.

For more videos and details, go to drpaulose.com Tuberculosis of the ENT region is one of the rarer forms of extra pulmonary tuberculosis but still poses a significant clinical and diagnostic challenge.TB Cervical Lymphadenitis,TB middle ear and mastoid,TB Larynx and TB of Sinuses and Nasopharynx are still not uncommon. Today, approximately 95% of mycobacterial cervical infections in adults are caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and the remainder are caused by atypical mycobacterium, or nontuberculous mycobacterium. This Patient had TB Cervical Lymphadenitis Treated with a combination of isoniazid, rifampicin , and pyrazinamide for 9 months. Now he attends the follow up clinic.
